Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
Not only would it be destructive in multiple copies but it turns Extort into 2 Loss/2 Gain for W/B (which at Mythic variety would make it more fair, even if its CMC was obscenely high).
There's Death Grasp which has already been mentioned and the more recent Exsanguinate which is XBB and does it to each player not to mention Drain Life, Soul Burn, Consume Spirit, none of which are impressive by today's standards.
It would have to be a wrath type spell to be good.

I like that idea. Something like brightflame in the original ravnica. maybe gain life equal to the number of creatures destroyed this way
the destroy clause wouldn't work because -X/-X doesn't destroy, and it just makes more sense to have X work for both "modes" of the card imo. Turning it into "gain 1 life for each creature sent to the graveyard this turn" just looks forced and unnatural to me. It's not like it's overpowered with the value being determined by X. Bane of the Living was a respectable card during Onslaught, and we are way past that today. The best cards during that standard were Decree of Justice, Exalted Angel, and Akroma, Angel of Wrath, with the exception of Decree's cycling mode (primary use most of the time), now they're pretty heavily outclassed by Baneslayer Angel and Sun Titan/Elesh Norn/Iona.
At every level this card is a fair card, Hideous Laughter and beyond with life gain is fine in today's standard, imo.

If I were a card dev I can think of one and only thing for a mythic W/B spell: returning things from the grave to play.
I was just thinking that. That the only WB spell mythic X spell that makes sense would be an XXWB Return X creatures from grave to play under your control.

WOTC needs to hire you. I have never seen a more fair or more perfect card. If there is a mythic X spell for orzhov, I hope this is it

Dear kbx41,

Saying that you sometimes wish people (in this case the implication is the staff) would fall down a well and get AIDS is hardly appropriate for the forum.
XWB: Destroy up to X target creatures. You gain X life.
More likely xWBB or xWWB
This card is way too good. Better than bonfire in terms of a sweeper for standard play. Maybe something like XWBB target opponent loses double X life, you gain double X life. To be honest i don't know, all i know is i want this Guild X noncreature spell to continue through the set. I hope the cycle gets complete at Dragon's Maze.

I was thinking more along the lines bringing back all permanents in your gy with converted cost X. A card that really says build around me, like epic experiment and sphinxes revelation.

oh damnit...
It was ment to be a better Drain Life and did its job.
But right now, with Lightning Helix and stuff, its horrible bad.
At least as a rare.
Could see it as uncommon though, as its actual a powered Blaze.

well what do you guys think will be the mythic orzhov card? (besides of course the leader)
I would think of something that makes Extort obscenely better.
(I'm bad with CMCs so I'll leave that blank) but something along the lines of:
If an opponent would lose life they lose twice as much instead
*I didn't include life-gain because of Rhox Faithmender
Not only would it be destructive in multiple copies but it turns Extort into 2 Loss/2 Gain for W/B (which at Mythic variety would make it more fair, even if its CMC was obscenely high).
an enchantment? I'm thinking that could be on the guild leader...maybe UEOT, you may extort for 0
Extort is already a mana sink. An ability like that would just be a waste.
I like the idea of a :symbw::xmana: target player loses x life and you gain x life. If it was a rare that is.

In reference to XXWB Mythic Sorcery - Return X creatures from among any graveyards in to play under your control.
That sounds very cool and very balanced actually

According to the extremely convoluted costing system I use, that should be about right.

I have 28 different EDH decks
+1 to this sentiment. I can't think of a good way to make it better and still be fair.

the only thing i would think of restricting on it is limiting it to just your graveyard.
