I'll bet money on a Legendary Creature --> Planeswalker Transform card by the end of the block. The transform ability would probably be linked with the Legend almost dieing but surviving somehow when they probably shouldn't have. That's how many PW's sparks ignite.
I personally would love to see something like that, though there are some issues with making pw's that can be simply doomblade'd or go for the throat'd
unless of course, they make it so that if it gets targeted by a spell or ability and some such, then it flips... but that would be a tad anti-climactic.
what would be really awesome, and yet have no playable value, is a card that flips when you're on less health or something than you're opponent, or gets dealt damage that would reduce its toughness to 1 etc. They love alternative win cards that are almost pointless, but i can see that kind of thing seeing some kind of love
The Legend into a planeswalker would fit perfectly with the reveal that a new planeswalker is showing up in this block. However, i think the trigger for this DFC would be when you as a player is about to die. Sort of like angel's grace.
With this, they could probably make the walker side pretty darn powerful. However, walkers can't be reanimated for the time being, and this one could be, so maybe not.
I'm curious to see what this unearth substitute will be. Since unearth is pretty much a direct form of flashback for creatures, but this is anit-synergetic as it exiles cards from the grave. So it sounds like reanimation without a duration.
Personally i wish recover would come back. One of the best mechanics ever imho, with a lot of design potential.

I would love to see a legendary turn into a planeswalker on card. That would be so awesome
I think it will be artifacts into creatures, and to keep with the horror theme it'll be like an artifact of a painting, flip it the person in the painting will be the creature.

Is this set for sure Post-spark for Sorin timelinewise? If not it might not be a new walker after all.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
I love the Opal Enchantments. Maybe in the next block the enchantments would have an effect and not simply sit around looking pretty waiting to be transformed.

Yes we do know that this is post-spark Sorin. Liliana has the Veil which time wise was a recent event. Also take into account that Sorin is an oldwalker and has had his spark for quite some time.
IF we were to get a legend that flips into a planeswalker there are two issues.
1. How do you keep the legend and planeswalker forms from being on the field at the same time? (An issue that was fixed by the "planeswalker rule" that was left open by the current "legend rule".)
2. How does it get loyalty considering all current planeswalkers get their loyalty counters as an effect of entering the battlefield. It could bounce back from the graveyard or simply have a "place x loyalty on ~this~" clause but that just seems like it would clutter up the front side of the card. Remember that with any design you have to ask yourself not only if you can do something but also should you do that thing and what real benefit will people (players) get out of it?

This person is on to something. It does something different with the mechanic, it can be done cleanly, and it fits yet another horror trope.

Hmmm, well if we go with Horror, and we go with one of my favorite tv series ever. We get one of the best flavors for white and transform (enchantment to creature).... Dare I say we get WEEPING ANGELS!?!?
oh my...If they made a weeping Angel type card I will be so happy!
My prediction is a Flashback variant for creatures:
Resurrection [cost]: If ~ is in your graveyard, you may return it to the battlefield by paying its Resurrection cost. If it would leave the battlefield, exile it. Activate only as a sorcery.
They would need to be careful with their interactions with Solar Flare decks, but then again it will probably be used similarly to Unearth was, being on only a couple huge creatures, then on some ho-hum dudes for 'extra value'.
I really hope if they do an [insert card type, likely legendary creature] into planeswalker transformation that they consider very carefully how they approach it. It would definitely need some kind of event or trigger that ignited the planeswalkers spark...otherwise it would just be disappointing.
And for the record I hope they don't do an [insert card type] into planeswalker transform card.
Other card types into other card types, sure. Curious to see what that will produce, though there are definitely a lot of cards out there that already function like that.
Unearth would definitely make sense in this block.
As long as mono red doesn't get to smack me with Hellspark Elemental and Hell's Thunder, I would welcome back unearth. One of my favorite mechanics. Sedraxis Specter was a pet card of mine during Alara block.
Perhaps it will be a phoenix-esque ability? Returning creature cards to your hand for a high cost during your upkeep only? From Maro's wording, it doesn't sound like unearth itself will come back, but an ability similar in function.

What if the new Unearth is only on DFCs?
Like this:
Necromancy Student 1B
Creature - Human Wizard
Postmortem 1B (Return this creature from your graveyard to the battlefield transformed. Use this ability only any time you could play a sorcery).

This would require like 2 DFCs per pack at the very least.

To post on this forum you must...
1. Have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
2. Stubbornly argue for at least 1 page of posts.
3. Regurgitate things you read on Starcitygames or Channelfireball.
4. Hate all netdeckers
5. Claim your 2nd place FNM deck broke the format and Delver is not even that good.
6. Tell everybody that MBC is coming back every time a new black card is released.
Instead of creating a new mechanic why not just use unearth as the transformation trigger? Sure they get exiled at the end of the turn, but that just means they can be more awesome on the transformed side.

Indeed, there's plenty of stories of possessed artifacts coming to life, sure creepy doll's already done it, but who's to say it can't happen to another card?
Plus Poltergeists.
also: yeah, a legendary flipping into a planeswalker would be neat.

Calling it: Enchantments that transform into spirits.
Partially because I put it in my GDS essays as an option for split cards. But it also makes perfect flavor sense. It is a great example of a horror trope, with the enchantment representing a haunting, and a certain trigger which makes the ghost show itself. For instance:
Shifting Stacks 2U
Enchantment
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, tap target permanent that player controls.
Tap three untapped creatures you control: transform Shifting Stacks
Poltergeist Librarian
4/4 Flying
When Librarian attacks, tap up to three target permanents target player controls
New mechanic that involves casting the creature from your graveyard at an extremely steep mana cost. Similar to Skaag Ruinator. Only problem with my idea is that if they have Skaag Ruinator and the mechanic is similar to it, why did they even bother printing this card?
Unless its Evil, in which case it would have to be "Decepticons, rise up"
And the comment suggests to me that it will be something like Unearth, instead of unearth itself.
Or is it just me?
No, it's not just you. MaRo blatantly stated that Unearth was not in this set. Hopefully it's something like "spell creatures", where you can Flashback them for their ETB ability.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.

Plus, returning unearth would give a real use for Sundial of the Infinite.
that's a great idea! but i doubt they'll do it. if they were going to do that, i would have thought they'd do it in ISD, not a supporting set.
and i'd think it more likely to see a planeswalker tranform into a creature rather than the other way around. have the ultimate be something like:
"13 : Remove all loyalty counters from Zombor and transform him."
and the other face has this insanely powerful creature, like an indestructible, flying 13/13 Zombie or something.
