They release them on MTGO. I hardly see how that's thanking anyone but the customer.
You are incorrect. FTV products are paper only, as far as I can tell. I have never seen a FTV card on MTGO before, unless this is a new development with this release.
Just out of curiosity, for those who play MTGO how much are the foil original duals from the masters editions going for? Not in terms of tickets but actual dollar amount.
Edit: Which by the way irritates the HELL out of me that MTGO gets foil duals.
Foil Underground Sea is around $70. Most cards are much cheaper online, but the economy can be weird with some sets from the early days of MTGO.
Foils on MTGO are really ugly and I have shocked and annoyed when I have to look at an opponent's foil deck. They are even worse when you have the foil animation turned on, as then they are just hard to read and see the art. Trust me, foil MODO is a suckers game.
I would really like to see Karakas in this set (it was uncommon, and therefore not on the Reserve list), but I don't think there's going to be such a high-dollar card in this - WotC really wants to avoid putting too much value in their non-random collections, which is largely why they've shut down PDS.
Mishra's Factory seems like a pretty good choice - it's Legacy playable, but printed enough times to be a low-value card. It was a judge promo though, which may hurt its chances. Perhaps Blinkmoth Nexus, which sees play in both Modern and Legacy Affinity, has a moderate value and decent desirability. Alternately, Glimmervoid for the same deck. I know Vesuva was mentioned earlier in the thread. Mikokoro sees a decent amount of EDH play, so there's a good Kamigawa card to choose. I'd love to see Phyrexian Tower or Volrath's Stronghold, but both those are on the Reserve List. High Market would be something I would not be surprised to see, though I think Rishadan Port is a bit too high dollar for the set. Academy Ruins would be another reasonable choice, as it has EDH and Modern playability.
What I do not expect to see are any shock lands or fetch lands in this - they are simply not "special" enough, for lack of a better word, especially if the rumors of RTR shocks are valid. In addition, they're part of a cycle, and I do not see WotC printing only 1 or 2 cards out of a cycle.

Every FTV has been sold on MTGO.
Dragons was limited to something like 2000 or 5000, once those sold no more were available.
Every FTV since has been an unlimited amount, it's just only onsale for a month or so.

Karakas is not out of the question, maybe unlikely but definitely not out of the question since Berserk and Mox Diamond were in other FTV respectively.
Anybody have a generalized number on the print run of the FTV series? That's been the one thing I've always wanted to know or just have a general idea. Wizards says extremely limited print run but what does that mean exactly?

As much as I play Commander/EDH, I actually want Karakas reprinted here. This set actually has the ability to drop the prices of cards printed in it, whereas Judge Foils rarely ever effect the price of the original card (Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed is a good example of this).
Until you remarked about the price of Mishra's Factory, I hadn't realized the DD:TvE printing of it is a four dollar card. That almost makes me wonder about the total value of DD:TvE.
I wouldn't mind Mishra's Factory, even though I already have one.
While I wouldn't mind Blinkmoth Nexus (and I think it's very possible it will make an appearance in this), I have this strange hunch that Inkmoth Nexus will take its place.
I hadn't considered Glimmervoid for this set, but it is a staple for most Affinity deck builds, so it has a high chance of making an appearance here, at least in my mind.
I would really like a foil, modern-bordered version of Phyrexian Tower, with my own wants aside, I think this card has a ninety-ish percent chance of being reprinted here. I say that because Wizards is likely to throw it in to remind us of the Phyrexians, not that we could have forgotten about them after what the did to Mirrodin. With the New Phyrexians in mind, I'd expect this card to also get new art.
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea? I had never seen this card before I read your post. I personally wouldn't want it reprinted here, but personal biases aside, I think Boseiju, Who Shelters All is a more likely representative of the Kamigawa block.
I personally would like to see Cavern of Souls (as it is popular in Standard, EDH/Commander, and I wouldn't be surprised if it managed to build up a following in Modern and Legacy) and Dark Depths (Including the Marit Lage token).
I'd love to see Phyrexian Tower or Volrath's Stronghold, but both those are on the Reserve List.

I'd say no, once you pay for it the item is yours and yours to do as you wish. You could throw it in a closet for 10 years or light it on fire in the parking lot no concern of theirs once payment has cleared.

Actually, in the states, they have a legal right to refuse service to anyone as long as it's not discriminatory. As long as they're requiring everyone to open the boxes upon purchase, they can do that.

Seems like a reasonable rule for a, what, $50 discount on expected price?

They just offer them up to the first X number of people who don't mind them pre-opened.
If you don't agree, you can not buy them.
They aren't doing anything wrong.
As mentioned, getting the product at MSRP seems like a pretty good deal compared to paying $75-100.

My worry of stores forcing people to open them, is that for an area like mine (one store getting FTV out of the three, 6 FTV: Relics for a 50+ player base), the less there are online, the harder they will be to acquire, and at a higher price.

Meh. Meh, I say!
People will sell them opened online. It won't really make a difference, unless you're looking for a sealed version, in which case it might kick the price up a couple bucks if this practice catches on.
I don't much care either way.

If people don't find out, then it's not an issue. And if it's one store out of who knows how many, it's also not really an issue.
I think this is great for players.
Probably not as good for collectors.
But I'd easily have this over people hoarding them on speculation that in 2 years they can get eleventy bajillion dollars.
Honestly, these aren't good short term investments and hardly even good long term investments.

I honestly don't think that will be a trend. Most of the shops in my area have these and only 1 or two sell them at MSRP. Considering the line out the door for this type of "first come first serve," many locals would just rather pay the extra $20 somewhere else and not have to wait in line for a couple hours.
Thanks for all the answers, They also are only selling them to people the know and vist often or spend lots of money often can get them, so some adverage joe cant walk in and buy them.
Even if you do have to open them when you get them its not that hard to repackage them from what I recall the FTV sets are not even wrapped you just slide it open and take out the cards

I work at my LGS, and I was talking to our Assistant Manager. She said that this is stupid idea and after the customer pays for the product, it's their's.
We generally only get three FTV packages and sell them for 40.00$ so that we make a slight profit. I'll definitely be picking one up, as my employee discount is quite nice (25% off everything in the store, except Magic singles, because singles are where a lot of our profit comes from).

Legaly they can't do this. Once you buy it, it is your property. They can however give you a stipulation, stating that buy purchasing this product, you are agreeing to open it before leaveing there location. So long as it is disclosed before purchase, you really can't do anything. It is there store and if they are willing to sell it at Retail value to you, I can understand the stipulation. They don't want someone to come in, buy all the copies and Ebay them.
