Jhoira of the Ghitu is a popular EDH General and has had a strong role in the storyline.
I've always said her name different in my head since Tinker came out. A couple years ago I decided to figure the name out.
I pronounce it Joy-ra myself. I've definitly heard other ways to say her name; Ja-horia, Joe-ra, Zwa-Ra, Ja-hor-a. Among other more brutal ways to say it. You know where people add vowels that aren't there. Ja-hara etc...
So whats the most common way to say it. Any language masters able to confirm the proper way to pronounce this name?
I pronounce it JOY-ruh ("ruh" being pronounce like "rug" without the G). I'm not sure if this is what you mean by Joy-ra (I would read "ra" as "rod" without the D.)
An ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Removal of the source after that time won't affect the ability. Some abilities cause a source to do something rather than the ability. Any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. If the source is no longer in the zone it's expected to be in, its last known information is used.
I've always said JOY-ra. I always figured the 'h' was silent, and the 'oi' stretches the sound out to "Joy". I'm no linguist, but any other way seems... clunky, ill-flowing. On top of that, I believe the pronunciation for her tribe, the Ghitu, is something like "Gee-too", so the 'silent H' theory should work for names in that tribe, too.
I started pronouncing it like "jy-or-ah" to annoy my friends. Eventually it stuck and eventually it stuck

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stopped, the story will not end.
Whether it's a comedy or a tragedy, if there is cheering, the story will continue on.
Just like the many lives.
For the us who are still in it and still in the journey, send warm blessings.
- We will continue to walk down this path until eternity.

Anyway, sorta' like: "Jyoy-rah". I pronounce it more like "Zhoy-rah" myself. (The "Zh" is pronounced as a Russian "Ж"("zheh"), or as the "J" in "Jacques")
So if I were to say "you're a complete douchebag who has his head up his ass so far he's using his own eyeballs as glasses," you'd simply shrug it off?

I don't know what you think this game's purpose is, but I play it because I figure it's the best way to learn how to hex everyone I don't like and summon dragons to do my bidding.
It hasn't worked yet, but I have high hopes for my future abilities as an occult practitioner.

I kind of do a mix of those things. I guess I say "JUH-ree-a" or "JOY-ra," or somewhere in between.
brain fart there...

Me and my friends always pronounced it Hwara. Silent J, oi as a long A.
Still I like the way that sounds better than Joy-rah...

That's the way I've always pronounced it, too.
