It must be something specific to those machines then.
So you're saying both laptops and desktops made by all the following manufatures Alienware, HP, Asues, SONY, DELL, AVIO, ACER all have something wrong with them. because it's something specific to them.
I run both Firefox and Chrome on multiple machines; the US federal government has begun to use Firefox site-wide in multiple installations. I'm not trying to say your problems don't exist but rather something in your machine is causing you problems. From the way you described it I suspect something nasty has infected your machine and is causing issues.
Every machine every model reformatted or not...Ok so that means the infection is coming from Mozilla and or Chrome.
Also a problem doesn't just stop and start when stopping and using specific software unless there is a problem within the software itsef.
It's funny how this only happens with Mozilla and chrome, not with IE. But yet there most be a problem with over 15 systems.
There is something wrong with firefox and chrome.
Version 1.5.1 has been released for Firefox. This release disables prices for that browser. This is necessary to keep the add-on in the gallery for now. I promise prices will come back soon.
Chrome is unaffected and remains at 1.5. I do have a 1.5.1 version for Chrome that also disables prices but I can't imagine anyone wanting that released to the market.
The Firefox add-on went through its preliminary review and failed for a couple reasons. One was naming of some JavaScript files and was easy to fix. The other was the use of eval(). Since the review process failed all versions of Scry were disabled and the add-on was marked for pending deletion. I had to get out a version with the fixes found in the review and quick.
Now I know eval() is evil and should be avoided. The reason I used eval(), though, was because the pricing data from tcgplayer.com isn't provided in something nice like JSON. but instead as JavaScript that creates nodes in the DOM. Scry currently does a little bit of text changing on this returned script (mostly to make IDs easier to use) and then passes that text to eval(). This creates the nodes in the DOM and then Scry uses jQuery to do some needed manipulation. It's ugly and hacky but I honestly can't parse the info coming back from tcgplayer.com because it's not formatted in any sane way.
I'm currently trying to work with tcgplayer.com to get better access to the data. I'm not sure if they have any other method than the current one but I certainly hope so. Having the pricing data come back in a sensible format would mean really great things.
If everything can be worked out I should have a new version of Scry with restored pricing capabilities out in no time. If I can't work things out with tcgplayer.com I'll just have to look at alternative sources for pricing data. If anyone has any suggestions I'm open to it. I've looked at Black Lotus Project and I really like their API. It doesn't link to any store fronts though so having the pricing data but nowhere to go with it isn't too helpful.
Glad I made the switch if thats really happening. lol
It would be pretty neat if we could have multiple choices for priceing if you decide to look into other sites. I personally would love to have MTGOTraders.Com as an alternative for MTGO. I'm sure Wilmheath would be willing to help out since they seem to own or run the place.
Shut up and take my money! This is amazing and almost everything I could ask for! My only feature request would be... is it possible to add more sites (as in, custom)? I'm not sure what all would go into that, but there's a few sites I wouldn't mind adding it to. However if it's specific hooks you're trying to get into on the sites that you currently support, it's probably too much
Regardless: amazing addon. You asked for a rating, where do I give that? (I looked on Moz's addon site, saw no place... if it's dependent on me logging in, I can't remember my password, and the email they send me to reset it never gets here. So if it ever does I'll give it another shot!)

Making the site list customizable is an interesting idea; I'm not exactly sure how I'd do that but I'll take a look. In the meantime just give me a list of sites you'd like Scry'd and I'll work them into it.
Scry currently does a specific check for each enabled site. For a particular site it looks for specific indicators that a link can be autocarded. If necessary any cleanup for that site is handled. For example: WotC's autocard links generate their own popup that Scry has to remove otherwise you'll see both popups. On mouseover Scry shows it's popup and then does a quick check for any WotC popups and removes them.
Adding a new site requires finding the site's own popup indicators, determining the card name from the popup link, injecting Scry's popups, and then cleaning up after the site's popups if necessary. It looks somewhat complicated but really the framework is already there.

Apparently the Mozilla Add-Ons have to be code reviewed by Mozilla before they are able to be reviewed by users. Scry is currently undergoing a preliminary view; once completed it will show up in searches and hopefully can be reviewed by users.
I probably won't get an update out today, but I do want to let you all know that prices are coming back in Firefox. I've switched to using Black Lotus Project for prices for now. That does mean seeing a list of vendors is no longer but I can actually work with the pricing data from BLP.
I do plan on incorporating TCGPlayer's pricing data back into Scry in the future. I'm going to make the pricing backend selectable eventually.
There's a few more tweaks to do before I can release this. Should be ready by tomorrow.
EDIT: I might delay the release slightly. I've got the framework ready to allow multiple pricing providers; I just need to throw in more than just BLP.
Version 1.6 is out. This version restores prices to Firefox. Yay! Better yet, the prices provider is now configurable. Currently only Black Lotus Project and TCGPlayer are available, but the framework is there to add new providers as long as they have a reasonable API.
Prices aren't being fetched for some of the smaller products like promos and premium deck series. I'm going to try and get more of the product IDs mapped correctly; as long as the provider supports a set the prices should be fetched if the mapping exists.
I'm setting up an options page in the wiki to explain what the different options are.
maybe throw on Cape fear games as a price provider? i'm sure heath would like the advertising.
Also, my chrome just said the new version requires more permissions, what are these? not that i mind, i just am curious and safety conscious.

That's good to know. I got an email from Mozilla saying their automated system had detected Scry was compatible with Firefox 5 and it's listing would be updated to reflect that. I'll revert that change.
Also, my chrome just said the new version requires more permissions, what are these? not that i mind, i just am curious and safety conscious.
I had to add Black Lotus Project to the list of URLs Scry needs permission to access. As more pricing providers are added Scry will need to ask for more permissions to access those providers. It's a smart move on Google's part to make sure an extension doesn't start doing malicious things after an update.
If you've ever wondered just what permissions are needed and why, here's a list:
Context menus - Scry asks for this to insert entires into the context menu for certain pages.
Tabs - Opening a popup window to either magiccards.info or Gatherer after highlighting a card name. This shows up in the web store as "Your browsing history." Just to note, Scry doesn't look at your browsing history at all.
List of sites - Each site that is Scry'd and all the pricing providers are listed here.
There are a couple of other neat things I've played around with but they require more permissions. If I ever do something that is an absolute must have I'll bite the bullet and ask for the permission, but until then I'm going to keep things as hands-off as possible when it comes to permissions.
After using this add-on and then updating my firefox to 5.0 to see it not work, I can see how much I took it for granted. When I first downloaded it I was like "Cool, this is neat." Now I'm still scrolling over card links trying to get that pop-up to show up. Good job with the add-on and I can't wait to see an updated version!

Version 1.6.1 is out. This is a small update that adds back vendor listing for TCGPlayer prices. You won't see the vendor list if you're using BLP. If you're using TCGPlayer as your pricing provider than hovering over the prices strip will drop down a table with some vendor info.

I'm going to update to Firefox 5 and see what's going on.
EDIT: Checked out Firefox 5. Not sure why but AJAX requests seem to be getting denied. I believe the new version of the browser is restricting cross origin requests. Add-On SDK might need to address that. I'm not sure.
I really like this addon! But I think I found a bug, I don't think it has been said before:
When the addon's enabled I can't do advanced searches on gatherer. Any entry into the search boxes pull up the usual suggestions list, but pressing enter or selecting one just reloads the page without adding to the custom filter.
Disabling the addon and refreshing the gatherer page restores functionality instantly.
Expected behavior : I would expect the scry addon to not interfere with gatherer searches and let gatherer work as usual.
Cheers and keep on the good work,

Hi. I've updated to Firefox 4.0 and Scry was working the way it should, but I've noticed over the last couple of days, that it doesn't give me that little pop up window any more. Just curious what I can do to fix this?

That's interesting. There are a few things that can cause a popup not to appear.
The card link is spell incorrectly. If magiccards.info can't find the autocarded card then Scry doesn't do anything.
The background request is still going and you mouse away from the link. This can cause the entire process to be aborted depending on where it is. Sometimes a network can be really slow and it will take 10+ seconds to bring up a popup for the first time.
Firefox might be blocking cross-site requests. I know this happens on Firefox 5 but I'm not sure about any Firefox 4 updates. I'll check on that.
EDIT: Just did a complete clean install of Firefox 4 and an install of Scry. Popups show with no problems. I suspect it might be a network thing; sometimes magiccards.info gets a little slow in responding.
I want to confirm the Gatherer Bug btw, it prevents the advanced search from working at all oddly enough. I know it's already bugtracked, so I am not gonna duplicate it there.
I've been looking into it. It's an odd interaction between jQuery and Prototype on Firefox. Chrome doesn't exhibit this bug because it keeps the content script sandboxed from the page itself. Firefox seems to intermingle the content script and page in a way where JavaScript libraries start to mess with each other.
The Gatherer issue is related to the StarCity shopping cart issue. If I can solve the SCG one I can solve the Gatherer one in a similar way. I'll probably just exclude Gatherer pages from the content script entirely since it's a much easier fix.

Well, I held the mouse over the Stonebrow magiccards.info link in my sig, and also the Jace link in yours for about fifteen seconds. And no popup window came up. It's acting the same way Scry did before I got Firefox 4.

It goes on like this for a metric tonne. Never seen so many error messages, though I reckon some of these are duplicate messages, I just don't know how to read them.
A couple of those are from Google Analystics; if you've got ad blocking or opt out extensions it can cause GA stuff on pages to error out. Not a problem.
The magiccards.info warnings are harmless.
The searchshield stuff I have not idea about. I assume another extension you're running.
I don't see anything Scry related so I'm not sure what is causing your issue. Do you mind disabling all other extensions you're running? Something like NoScript could cause interference.

The only extensions I'm running iirc is Ad Block and Scry...and Scry was the last one. Although I think I did get something No Script related, with blocking all ads with Ad Block.
How do I disable the extensions again? Yeah, I'm kinda bad at this. <_>
Good news. The Gatherer and StarCity site incompatibilities should hopefully be fixed soon. I haven't been doing too much work against them because the 1.0 release of the Add-On SDK should resolve them. I've been testing Scry against the release candidate builds and so far things have continued to work and the above mentioned site issues are gone.
I'm going to release an update that is built against Add-On SDK 1.0 RC 4 to resolve the Gatherer and SCG site issues. Once Add-On SDK 1.0 is released AMO should auto-update Scry to use that version.
The site issues stem from the content script and associated JavaScript libraries being injected into the page in a way where the site's own JavaScript can step on Scry's stuff (and vice-versa). Changes in the Add-On SDK make the injection work more like Chrome: Scry's JavaScript is kept completely separate from the page's JavaScript.
Decided to give it a try again to see if it works better then your previous version with Ninakit and Tamper Monkey. Seems to be pretty fast and snappy which I like. Theres still the same probably with both of them is the scroll line at the bottom. When you view a card thats close to the right side it make it pop up a scroll bar yet it will move the pop up over so theres no need for the scroll bar below. When I move cursor off and scroll down abit theres the scroll bar on the bottom moving with the screen. Was wondering if your working on fixing it?
Version 1.6.2 is out. Chrome users should get autoupdated. Firefox users, autoupdates should happen after the review process is complete. You can get the latest version here.

It goes on like this for a metric tonne. Never seen so many error messages, though I reckon some of these are duplicate messages, I just don't know how to read them.

I have seen that. It's a Chrome bug.
