1. knobbodi - Mayor Control Mayor of Avabruck / Chrome Mox / Pendelhaven / Echoing Truth / Spreading Seas Not a whole lot to say about my deck, beyond pendelhaven was never useful, and I chose spreading seas just because I could, haha. Mayor wasn't a super great choice this week, although it is still pretty powerful. Maybe a counterspell might have been good, or something.
2. Draco9 - Heal Me With Your Cowardice Champion of the Parish / Serra Ascendant / Soul's Attendant / Norin the Wary / Ancient Ziggurat This is a really neat deck, but your main problem this week was folding to ratchet bomb. When all your guys cost 1, ratchet bomb wrecks you. You're definitely getting the point for creativity, though. I was also really rooting for you to win the token matchup, but alas, not quite.
4. Feyd_Ruin - Burning Bridges Cloudpost / Glimmerpost / Ensnaring Bridge / Ratchet Bomb / Shrine of Burning Rage I guess what this deck needed all along was ratchet bomb. However, an abundance of spell pierces and other ratchet bombs, plus smallpox, meant that you did not take the whole thing. Better than my previous incarnation of this deck by a lot, though.
6. WhammWhamme - Mayor-Go Mayor of Avabruck / Spell Pierce / Ratchet Bomb / Fungal Reaches / Breeding Pool I really liked the inclusion of the storage land in this deck, so you could hold your spell pierce and still cast your other spells. However, this was not a great week for mayor.

Congratulations Antonia, for winning Modern 5CB round 17! Sorry this went up a little late, my week has been crazy so far.
Next week is going to be backbuild! Before each match, you swap decks with your opponent, and try to win from there. So you want to make your deck as bad as possible while still being able to beat the test deck, which is one of each basic land. Decks are going to be due Friday, December 9th.
Modern 5CB is a forum game with the following rules:
-A deck consists of 5 cards that you submit to the moderator (me). Your deck must include a way to win, plus the mana to cast whatever cards are included in your deck. All 5 cards start in your opening hand, and you do not lose the game for being unable to draw a card from your deck.
-Matches are calculated by the moderator, assuming perfect information and optimal play. Matches consist of 2 games, one on the play and one on the draw. Each win is worth 3 points, and each draw is worth 1 point. However, a match that results in a win on the play and a loss on the draw is only worth 2 points, even though it is recorded in the table as being worth 3.
-The cardpool is limited to cards that have been printed since 8th edition and mirrodin (counting both of those), i.e. anything printed in the new card frame (but also including timeshifted cards, and not including cards printed in duel decks or the from the vault series).
-No one may submit a deck that can force their opponent to move a card in their hand to a different zone before that player's first turn. That is, no turn 1 discard. Also, no one can submit a deck that can win on its first turn.
-The banned list is:
Ghost Quarter
Meddling Mage
Vampire Hexmage
Chancellor of the Annex
Laboratory Maniac
Blazing Shoal
I don't see how knoboddi vs me can be 3-3 ; Ratchet Bomb trades with a flipped Mayor, Chrome Mox (and thus the ability to CAST Mayor) AND all his Wolves in one fell swoop (and Spreading Seas can always be Spell Pierce'd). So that's 6-0.
Oh crap, I even took that into account in another matchup in a previous week. This time I just forgot that Howlpack Alpha has a converted mana cost. Changed
Also relevant vs Antonia, who can force a draw on the draw by Bombing your board (but Spreading Seas makes it a draw)
Edit: Actually, it's a win, I think ; leading with Urborg either allows turn two Smallpox (taking out a token and Pendlehaven, followed by Ratchet Bomb two turns later) or Spreading Seas goes on Urborg (futilely)
Crap, you're right about that as well. I was counting ratchet bomb as just blowing up my tokens, and if I spreading seas her urborg on my second turn on the play I kill her before she can smallpox. But since howlpack alpha is a zero-cost, that makes it a loss for me as opposed to a split.
On a related note, I think smallpox/ulamog pulling a perfect week is an indicator that it might be too strong of a strategy. What do you guys think?
Yeah, wouldn't hurt to ban Smallpox. Though I'm more curious as to why you decided on the discard rule you have now instead of mirroring 2CB's discard rule.

Absolutely. I've been running it (to moderate to great success) for weeks now, but I've just gotten bored of it. It's time to move on. Besides, Smallpox is only good in that one strategy that has only 1 card changeable.

I like it better this way. It's different than Vintage 5CB, neither more nor less strict, allowing for different cards to be used. I had a deck that took out people's whole hands on turn 2, which I couldn't run in Vintage, whereas this nixes Thoughtseize as a staple. Also, no discard is lame, but it'a too powerful in 2CB.
Mayor of Avabruck / Chrome Mox / Pendelhaven / Echoing Truth / Spreading Seas

2. Draco9 - Heal Me With Your Cowardice
Champion of the Parish / Serra Ascendant / Soul's Attendant / Norin the Wary / Ancient Ziggurat

3. XScorpion - Tokens
Chancellor of the Forge / Chancellor of the Forge / Chancellor of the Forge / Leyline of the Meek / Leyline of the Meek
There were far too many ratchet bombs for you to be successful this week.
4. Feyd_Ruin - Burning Bridges
Cloudpost / Glimmerpost / Ensnaring Bridge / Ratchet Bomb / Shrine of Burning Rage
I guess what this deck needed all along was ratchet bomb. However, an abundance of spell pierces and other ratchet bombs, plus smallpox, meant that you did not take the whole thing. Better than my previous incarnation of this deck by a lot, though.
5. Antonia - A pox on you!
Dreadship Reef / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth / Smallpox / Ratchet Bomb / Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre
It seems ratchet bomb is a huge improvement over echoing truth in this deck. Nice finish!
6. WhammWhamme - Mayor-Go
Mayor of Avabruck / Spell Pierce / Ratchet Bomb / Fungal Reaches / Breeding Pool
I really liked the inclusion of the storage land in this deck, so you could hold your spell pierce and still cast your other spells. However, this was not a great week for mayor.
7. Heart of Draco - Just for Funzies
Lightning Bolt / Brain Pry / Spell Pierce / Dryad Arbor / City of Brass
You have a ton of interactive spells, but dryad arbor is just a terrible win condition.
8. Error1 - option select
Mountain / Rite of Flame / Rite of Flame / Magus of the Moon / Eater of Days
This was a bad week for magus of the moon, what with all the ratchet bombs, but eater of days won games by itself just by being a huge flying beatstick.

Knobbodi is doing a good job sticking to moderating Modern 5CB for this long.
