So first off, I build decks according to the Vintage format, however since I was told that apparently that section is really just for people who are building tournament decks using cookie cutter style and all that jazz, that I might find some more willing and helpful feedback within my parameters in the casual section instead.
I have among many vintage decks, a mostly white tribal humans deck that I am looking for some advice on. First, some standard things to say up front about my play style.
1)I prefer to build deck from the philosophy of building a deck that does its best, to do what it does best, as best as it can. Proactive instead of Reactive. Not building decks based off of what I think I might encounter in other peoples decks for the most part.
2) I am not a big fan of non repeatable spot removal. Swords to Plowshares and the like. When it comes to removal I'm more of a Devout Chaplain kind of guy.
3) I am not a fan of mana rocks. Paying 2 mana to have an artifact that taps for one mana is just not worth a card slot to me. I prefer more broad, helpful, and stronger ramp.
4) In vintage I play proxy decks. My friends and I print our own high res decks on photo paper, cut em, sleeve em etc. We just dont believe in paying huge amounts of cash for pieces of paper from people who happened to have gotten good cards out of boosters years ago just to be able to play in legit tournaments. We support Wizards, the manufacturer, but buying packs to play in drafts. So card cost is of no importance, cuz we're just printing our own.
With all that in mind, I present to you, HUMANAUT.
Now currently what I am looking on advice for, is the possibility of replacing Royal Assassin, with some kind of preferably white or green, but maybe red, repeatable removal that is similar to royal assassin. Secondly, I'm also looking at possibly replace Marton Stromgald with something else that can give non anthem power/toughness bonuses to my creatures. This is because in order for Mentor of the Meek to function, I cannot play anthems because otherwise none of my creatures make the mentors ability trigger. So I need a card like Marton Stromgald who's power toughness bonus to other creatures is not on all the time. Only when I wish it to be. It is possible that there are no other similarly powerful options for this but I figured I'd ask around. So my big goal is to either ditch black out of this deck or to ditch red because atm, even with dual lands, it is just a little too spread out for me. Hell optimally id love to be able to do the same things in only white but that would cut out too much, or even just white green, but I'm having difficulties finding potential replacements for either Marton or the assassin. Recommendations are welcome and thank you in advance
