I call for a scrapping of the warning system it REAKS of MTGNEWS.com. this place should be more loose calling someone a "cockbiting ********" for example should be tolerated as it is just a playfull insult nothing serious. The only people that should be banned are BLATANT disregard for people aka Spam raiding. Their should be the FIRST ammendment of the US constition on this forum!
As you remember how R_E got into that situation when he was not able to speak his own ideas without threat of banishment!
I have issues with the warning system that we used on News...and I didn't like the things we considered moddable.
So many things could just be deleted, no harm no foul.
Regardless, I don't think its necessary to have flaming, even if it 'is just kidding'.
I post on a message board that allows a great deal of flaming (luelinks) and it doesn't really make it any better.

Maybe if flaming was restricted to the General forums and only an offence on serious forums such as T2. Although people should be able to say "you are an idiot and your deck sucks IMHO"
Thanks for the concern Goblin King. While saying the words you previously mentioned is allowed under the US Constitutions first ammendment, it isn't viable to allow them on these forums. As Qwerty said, flaming will lead to more flaming and sooner or later the boards are in a state of anarchy.
Plus it's just offensive to personally attack others. And as you know people are allowed their rights as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. People who enter these forums have the right to not see such terms used or such attacks inflicted upon them.

since I frequented MTGnews.com I have visted 100's if not thousands of forums many large and majorly sucessfull. None of which used a Warning system set in place here.
Also in responce to someone If someone is flamed should they have the choice whether they want to "press charges" ...see where Im going. If I went up to my boss as said that I do not belive I would be fired no because its not that kinda atmosphere, most of the real world isnt. In schools (public) kids under 18 have no rights when they enter the building so I dont see how this applies to this case.

I think the point we're trying to show you Goblin King is that your reasoning is idealistic, not realistic. It just won't work on a forum like this.

Not to mention the fact that we aren't all American, and this forum should be international. I don't much like the concept of an " American constitution" for these forums.

Sounds like an attempt to turn MTG Salvation into MiseTings 2. :smile01:
I don't want that, you don't want that, just keep your mouth mostly clean and respect each other and everything should be good.
HINT: If you want to seem like you are, and thus the forum is, mature enough to deal with this, proper spelling and grammar are recommended. Also, not having formed a Spammers League helps.

So I wrote the sentence fast. Sue me.
I'm sure the mods will do fine with rules set in place. Things can eventually be changed around, but only after the current system is tested out to its full extent.
The warning system should stay as long as it not exactly the same as mtgnews. Warning should only be used when people purposly start a flam, but i doubt that will happen. The people joinig salvation have , in general, a higher maturity level then in 'news. That cause the only people who really care about the site left when it sank the other lesser maturity posters are still their drowning in the ruins.

I personally agree with the previous posts stating that we should respect each other and not use vulgar language, even "in jest". Honestly, such verbage is degrading and insulting, wether you're kidding or not. The potential for misunderstanding is great, and the resulting flame wars are not desirable in any way.
I think that one of the reasons I enjoyed MTG News was because the rules that were in place prevented people from getting out of hand. Now I am not the kind of person who would contradict those rules, so I never had any issues with them (or warnings) - if there are folks who have different opinions on this, I welcome some clarifications regarding specific conerns.
As to the First Amendment of the USA... Let's just come up with a set of rules that makes sense. A place like this that allows free reign is going to scare people away...
I think minor flames are fine but if a whole post is devoted to the flame then by all means give th person a warning.
And I dont think this should be Misetings but we should be allowed to say
crap, damn,*****,*****,**** etc etc.But censer racial slur's and the like .

We need a warning system, this site should be nice and clean, but it shouldn't be as up tight as MOTL or as insane as MTG News, it should be somewhere in the middle.

there is differance between saying ''**** that film was good'' and then telling someone ''you are so **** man'' the first is mildly acceptable (i am guilty of this) but the second is not.
I completely agree!
However...
Couldn't you just say "Wow that film was good", or "Gorram it that film was good!" or "Holy <insert swear word here> that film was good!" Seriously, there are better and more interesting ways to post things like this than cursing. The latter example actually adds comedy to the post, as people can just imagine their favorite word in place of the bracketed text.

I completley agree with Rabit, I think that cursing should be used a a last resort, and that there really are better ways to express yourself and your thoughts.
The real problem is alot of people are not mature enough to even be able to use that language without getting into trouble. These forums don't need that type of language as it looks bad when others view them.
Right now, I forsee a real problem with trolls coming here thinking that they can do and say whatever without consequences seeing this is a new forum and not 'News. What is wrong with taking some of 'News rules to enforce here? They had strict rules but they were necessary and the mods were lenient when need be.
Final thought: Swearing, cursing, whatever should not be allowed here. There are forums for stuff like that (Misetings). We are a tight community for many years now and I don't think we should start degrading our past and future by allowing people to start cursing at whomever they want for whatever reason.

R.I.P. MTGnews. We will always love and remember the good 'ol days.
Oh! I almost forgot! One of the best ways to allow swearing without allowing swearing is to use a fg emoticon. (Naturally, that actually says "fragging"! ;))
I'm afraid I live in Canada, and thus the laws of the U.S.A. don't apply to me.
There was something I saw on another forum a "Ring of Flame". In that forum there were threads that didn't expect any positive reaction and if a thread was deemed a flamefest was moved there. That would save multiple warnings/bannings.
As far as I can tell, this is a private forum. So as a result, the administration makes the rules. I would probably allows first amendment to some extent, but not totally, the warning system does keep people in line. Without one, you turn into places like Starcitygames and Brainburst forums where people frequently make contentless posts and do PMing over forum threads.
I think for the most part the 1st Amendment should apply simply because it is the 1st Amendment. however, i definitely agree that the Admins and Mods need to be able to regulate the boards efficiently, and part of that is a warning system. I never had any problems with the mtgnews warning system, so i don't see why it shouldnt continue.

There was something I saw on another forum a "Ring of Flame". In that forum there were threads that didn't expect any positive reaction and if a thread was deemed a flamefest was moved there. That would save multiple warnings/bannings.
1) If the person who was flamed reports the post because he/she was offended
2) The post is more of a personal attack than anything else
3) It's complete and utter spam after I told the individual to stop doing it
The warning system is basically the way for us to tell you what's right and what isn't, and we only enforce it strictly if we must.
In reality, the warning system is a "reminder" in a way, and we don't like using it unless we have no choice in the matter.
