I want to respond to what Decietful Beauty said, but, I don't have a magnifying glass handy to read it with in the first place. I didn't know fonts could even BE that small.
Seriously though, DB, that situation is different. I met my wife over ICQ. But I MET her, in real life, and we got together. I didn't take her online, without ever actually meeting her, and declare that we were madly in love and even call her my 'fiance' after knowing her for 2 months when she lives like 5K miles away from me.
There's nothing wrong with internet relationships. There IS something wrong with an Admin having relations with a Staff member. The fact that she was Staff first actually makes it WORSE, IMO. That's like a boss dating a secretary...any time that anything happens that involves them both, it's a superdramacontroversyscandalcoverup etc etc. The reality of it doesn't matter, people don't trust each other enough in general for it to be acceptable. It's only worse that they were sooooo obvious about it...using the same sig, etc. I'm not opposed to this practice in general, and if Raia wasn't a Mod, I think it would be 100% fine...but when you mix authority and emotional interest, it gets really messy. It's sad, but, it's true.
NecroBlade: I hadn't even read your post when I made that one..I was just commenting on R_e's consistent unintentional humor. He has that effect on me alot..the bastard.
@CM: You were a great T2 mod, but your spamming a few days ago was entirely unacceptable behavior. I know you realize that. We'll see about remodding, but don't keep your hopes up. I do hope you'll continue to post in T2, though. You're a great strategist.
I don't have my hopes up. At least it's being considered, and that's all I ask. I know I forfeited it the moment I crossed the line, but I can promise that I don't want to pull a stunt like that again.
I will continue to post in T2, regardless of if I'm modded or not... I just gotta immerse myself in the game again and rebuild all my decks... lol.
Like I said, all I ask is that it be considered. Up until this point, I feel I never caused any problems in the staff, and I have no warnings yet (although I do expect to get one for this series of events, and yes I am pointing it out). I have been told by a few people (not lots, just a few) that I was the best T2 mod that the forum has had in a while... I don't know if that's true or not, but I'd like to think that I did my job well until the last couple of days (and even weeks, as I was somewhat scarce).
I'd hope you understand that what has happened here is an isolated incident. I will be perfectly content if I am not modded however. I want to return to the staff, yes. But I accept the consequences of my actions.
Well no it is not speculation. I may have misspoke though. Mike may not be the reason that Belgareth is gone, but one must say that he triggered it. I mean had Mike and Will not done what they did do you really think that all of what has happened in the past day would have happened?
Um, yes. I and a LOT of other people here have no idea why Belgareth was fired.
It could've been started by BB18 and CM leaving.
It could have been a long time coming, according to posts by others(no judgements, just observations...by his own admittance, he tried to leave prior to any of this).
It could've been Hannes finding out about this whole "blackmail" BS.
It could've been stealing money, like the accusations flung around when R_E left News and the subsequent sacking of S_S(which WAS being asked for for a while). EXTREMELY UNLIKELY AND REMOTE but it's a possible reason. Doubtful to the extreme, no one take this seriously; it's just to illustrate the possibilities.
It could be any number of things is the point. It just seemed like what you said was a little slip of "in the know". I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth, hence why speculation was a question, not a statment.
I want to respond to what Decietful Beauty said, but, I don't have a magnifying glass handy to read it with in the first place. I didn't know fonts could even BE that small.

So what you're saying is there were cases where Bel couldn't keep his authority and relastionship separate?
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
I doubt Cyan is saying that at all. Simply that the situation leads itself to too much suspicion of collusion for one to put themselves into, even if you are Mother Theresa.
Even if they didn't do anything, they muddied the waters anyway. That I believe was the point.
I wish Bel the best. I never not liked you, although some of your actions certainly gave me pause. But that appears to be neither here nor there now.
And for those who thing this is the start of something bad, this is our (I think) third major admin change in a year. We're still working out the kinks. I believe this is all for the best.
Good luck to the new admins and mods (whoever they may be).
Mike: I never thought u were a brilliant strategist, honestly XD. That said, I kinda loved ur RB Burn's Reward deck and.... well i do think u were the best t2 mod, its that simple ^^
Uhhhh... I'm flattered I guess :eyebrow:... And you've gotta admit, that RB Flame's Reward WASNT A BAD DECK... It's just a shame I hadn't come up with it sooner to fully develop it. (For anyone who doesn't know, it was a deck I came up with a few weeks before ravnica became legal). But that's neither here nor there at this point, lol.

I can't say that, because I don't know personally. I"m saying that, when you're involved with someone like that, and you are BOTH authority figures, the potential for catastrophy is ridiculous. I mean, the fact that 1/2 the site thought that Raia got the promotion just because they were involved, when in reality they started dating long after the fact. But it just goes to show you why it is a bad idea. Nevermind the outcry when something actually happens, like Raia and Sterling Angel being the only people that have color in their custom tags. It doesn't matter whether or not they were actually favored, because they were close to Bel, people automatically ASSUMED they were favored, and it created problems. It's great that they fell in love..and if they talked about it in the Staff Lounge, or just their clan thread, that's one thing..but making it so really, really obvious is just asking for trouble.
Man, oh man!
This really screws up my Soul Market agenda!
I was planning to use Raia as my next gimmick soul auction (slated for 12/14-12/21) with a Christmas theme. People were going to bid based on how they would decorate her soul (like a Christmas tree), and Belgareth would have to go all out and bid so that he would not lose his one true love to the likes of Slavan K. Guiser or anyone else that opened up a can of creative whoop-[butt]. (I would have put the 'at' symbol, followed by two dollar signs, but GoblinBoy has gotten mad at me before for using ASCII profanity--cuz I loves me ASCII profanity!)
It was going to be great!
People from all over the world would come and deperately bid, using all of the holiday creativity they could muster. The lines between Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwaanzaa, Ramadan, misc. pagan, non-denominational religions, Jehovah's Witnesses, and non-religious people would diffuse, people would come together as one, join hands, and then mercilessly try to outbid each other in a passionate orgy of greed and consumerism that so best defines this time of year.
In any case, that leaves me in a quandary.
Do I continue with the Raia gimmick auction as planned, even though Bel has stated that he won't be around anymore, or should I reach down into the depths of my cold, black Dr. Seuss heart and just give her soul to him before he leaves as a farewell Christmas present?
Nobody ever thinks about how this will affect poor 'ol Kank. *sniff*
Damn! Cyan can throw it out like a champ! I have come full circle to respect you Cyan. Because of your wise words, I promise to never flame anyone on mtgnews again
I still think it's ludacris that Bel and Raia are "in love" when they've never met. I don't know how old Bel is, but Raia is 19, and that is too young to be shouting from the rooftops that you love the admin. I liked Bel until I realized that he was "dating" Raia. For shame
I was talking to a friend about the "dates" they must have had on AIM, and it consisted of "Then I take off my cloak and put down my bow and arrow, and throw you onto the bed" which receives the reply of "Oh! Take me you big elf!"

LOL, the IBTG thing happened a long time ago... and has nothing to do with any of this. He is now unsuspended, but I'm not sure if he's posting or not. I've heard that he doesn't want to post from some people, but others have said that they've seen him post again... I'm not sure.
Regardless, I don't think anything about all that has happened should be posted up. I don't feel that bringing back all the drama would be a wise move, since threads on both Salvation and News have already been closed, leaving this as the only venting point. And this is not meant to be the place to bicker about what happened in the past that has now been resolved.
Yeah. He posted yesterday on the comments on my article.

I was SURE that the last paragraph was going to end in 'Okay okay, I take off my hat and wizard robes...."
Also, it's ludicrous..just because rappers can't spell doesn't mean that you can't either.
Lastly, I think that people who haven't met can love each other's personalities..why not. I don't think they're wise in commiting to each other in this circumstance, especially when 5K miles(or so) seperates them, and when they've only been involved for 2 months. People downplay/delude themselves about the importance of physical attraction...and I don't mean 'omfg she's so h0+ that it's haxX0rz', I mean that special physical comfort that you sometimes just don't have with people, but is imperative to have with someone that you're in a committed relationship with...but that you can't know/understand until you really meet them.
I dont want to take any sides here, but I predict there will be rough, interesting and changing waters ahead. Let us all hold on together and see what each day brings and hope that each change is for the better.
Not that it's really anybody's business but do we know for SURE that they haven't met in person? A post by one of them prior seems to indicate quite the opposite, especially in relation to their respective sigs.
Regardless, MD's imaginary conversation was hilarious.
I didn't mean to put down anyone who has online relationships. I guess maybe my point was that a Magic forum isn't my choice of venues for the ideal place to carry them out. For those who do, that's great for them. I was just stating my own opinion on the matter, not trying to upset anybody.
A little known, or unknown fact: I met my wife online. It was total fluke, some little program for talking to relatives via computer called "freetel" like 9 years ago. Yes, the internet existed 9 years ago. I only talked to her there once, and then by email a few times, and since she was only a few blocks from me, we talked on the phone a bit, and then went out for dinner. And it went from there. We didn't carry out an online relationship.
That said, I do believe you can care about someone online although I think you need to be WITH them before you can really understand your feelings. Love isn't properly expressed just in text format. We're natural creatures, not machines... we love in real time.
And yes I do have some online 'friends' but call me old fashioned for preferring real people to be my friends. I do call Belgareth "friend" as far as AIM contacts can go. He knows a lot about me, and knowing about someone is part of being friends.
(reminder: this came from the discussion of having emotions for forum people and drama..... not because I have any opinion about Bel/Raia or any other "couple" here)
Maybe not the best example. We all know how well that ended.
I think it's safe to say that Bel is smarter than Xen right?
Secondly, if mods are needed are they going to be normal fare of asking via PM or is there going to be public applications this time?
Thirdly, and probably my last comments on this drama (no no drama no no no drama drama), I agree it can see how it would be a slap in the face how Bel left and all... I can honestly say I found no problems with half of what was going on here as to what started the drama (if you want my personal feelings on everything period just PM me... easier). It's probably gonna take time if he ever does decide to keep on posting here, which I hope he does, eventually. And yes I know I said shame on you all in the actual drama thread... but that was to how the whole thing was handled and how it was brought up, not the actual actions leading up to said BS.
Also, leave it up to R_E to be spot on. Maturity in age goes a long way. I wish people would remember at least that much... And lastly, lets hope this is all done with now and everything can get back to normal as quickly as possible considering this is FAR from catastrophic.
Am I the only one who believes this thread has got off topic a little? I mean bewteen the wonders of unhumaniod love, the fun of 'modem buddies', and "The Education of Sneaky Homunculus: Post Counts" I thinkw e have got off the topic of the future of the site and Belgareth getting fired.
Anywho we know Belgareth is older as he claims to be a medical student, to put that to rest. Also we know that Belgareth lives in the U.K. and if he is indeed a medical student do you really think he will be able to afford a trip to Canada? Also if he was able to I am sure we all would have heard about it before. So yes, Squall, we can be pretty sure they have not met.
As for the modem buddies thing I misunderstood yuo R_E. My mistake. I am not offended I just thoguht you meant something esle. My bad.
SorryGuy: Threads naturally get off topic when their subject matter is no longer interesting/controversial. No one is really opposing Bel getting fired, but people read the thread anyway, and random conversation ensues, because people like posting, heh. Eventually people will just stop posting in this thread when they get tired of the offtopic conversation. No post counts here anway, so, no real harm.
Just read through this thread, and I have a lot of thoughts, and there's a lot to say, but I find myself wanting to be brief. Not because I want to seem detached from it (actually I was involved fairly closely with it), and not because I don't care - because on some level I do. I want to be brief because I've had just about enough of the whole thing. I think this is why Hannes is being so brief, too... he's getting burned out by all of this, after having worked on it and dealt with it behind the scenes for 10+ hours a day for the past few days. It's unfortunate that being brief about things like this makes people paranoid, causes people to accuse you of not caring, or of trying to "cover up and smooth over the problem". I don't think that's the case. Perhaps when Hannes (and others) are up to it, they'll be able to fully explain what happened and why. Unfortunately, that would likely just cause more drama in the form of accusations and "no that's not true, I heard it went down differently!"
I enjoy this site, the game, rumours, making up cards, my clan. I even have some "friendships" with people here, if you can actually be "friends" with someone online. I wish people were able to be a bit more detached, though. We're all sitting in chairs, typing about Magic on a website. That's what I always say to myself when things seem heated or messed up. We're using this site to get enjoyment out of it, that's all. I'm not here to make myself seem cool to people I don't know, or get a false sense of control by being a moderator, or to make "modem buddies". Are you?
I wish we could all go for a beer (or pepsi), play some Magic, and not fight/cry/get angry/worry about things like this.
What's most troubling to me isn't staff changes, but people's reactions to them.
People should seriously stop bringing up Bel's relationship with Raia. It's been said numerous times that it was in no way a reason for Bel getting fired and discussing it otherwise has nothing to do with us. Their relationship is their business unless it negatively affects the community, which it didn't. So I say we should all butt out of it.
What anyone thinks about internet romances or whatever is a pointless tangent to the topic at hand. We should try to keep this about Bel as an admin.
ETA: Also, let's not derail this thread by being utter retards like what happened with the BB18/CM thread. Try to pretend we're mature adults, if only for one thread.
Jesus H. Christ (no offense intended to any Christians reading this). This is what I get for not paying more attention to the parts of this site other than the Rumor Mill. I'm really glad I had no commitments today so I could sit and read everything. I'm sorry to see Bel go, as I've never had any problems with him (that I know of). I think R_E had a lot of good points about how out of proportion this whole thing has become, since at it's core, this site IS about Magic. Still, it's not going to be the same without Bel.
EDIT: This thread DOES move fast. Four posts appeared while I was typing!!

My bad.
Oops?

What anyone thinks about internet romances or whatever is a pointless tangent to the topic at hand. We should try to keep this about Bel as an admin.
ETA: Also, let's not derail this thread by being utter retards like what happened with the BB18/CM thread. Try to pretend we're mature adults, if only for one thread.
