The unauthorized release of information about prototype cards harms the brand because the cards are seen and judged prematurely out of context of the entire set
This is probably why. Well, they think we are ''degrading'' the set.
If they do, they're wrong...all the spoilers ever do is make the set more anticipated. Anyway, just about everyone reading the spoiler understands it all speculation and its only part of the set
I wonder if Wizards ever told R_E or MTG to stop what they were doing? I mean considering their own stance was to avoid asking people so that people didn't believe the leaks and now they countermand their strategy by clearly naming R_E as a leaker.
I wonder exactly what R_E is being charged with. If anything it would appear the problem is with the playtest card scans from Coldsnap. It's not like showing cards from Magazines/ebay auctions is illegal. That ebay auction must have scared the begeezus out of Wizards. I mean a full sheet of foil rares...
Man, that is just horrible... how could they do this to R_E (who is Daron, for those who don't know) and have the looming threat of him facing court and the potential shutting down of the site...
I find it morbidly amusing that MTG believes this site to be a big enough deal to specifically target and name one of its members. I believe that R_E should probably tell us very little for the current time. Best of luck to him.

You're obviously an ignorant conservative. I blame your hill-billy Mom and Dad.
They're obviously not planning on the going all the way to court. They just want to try and get the names of his sources. Which I believe R_E doesn't have.

this doent make much sense, they re sueing because they cant keep a secret. the only way we know this stuff is because wizards leaked it.
Yeah, it's totally their fault that their employees or contracted hirees illegally broke their nondisclosure agreements. They have it coming for not padlocking their mouths shut.
In all seriousness, I think there's a high probablility that this won't actually impact anything, except maybe taking up a bit of R_E's time and money for lawyer fees. If this is brought to court, there's probably a way to make a good case that he wasn't doing anything illegal. The only impact I can see definitely coming from this is scaring sources into revealing less information.
well, if Wizards can't keep info from leaking out i don't think it too big a deal. after all it does spice it all up with the hype and all. some members have claimed MtG S was too fast... so with this clampdown... it'll be slower. some will be happy...
on the otehr hand i wouldn't wnat to see this site go down... i don't think it will either. but i'm not lawyer nor anything in between.

Remember the poll they did on the website? "How confident are you in the colors of the guilds in Guildpact?" I was wondering if that was a subtle quiz to "Are you reading the spoilers?" The results sure as hell seemed to suggest we are!
Other than when I was built up and excited about wreak havoc only to be knocked down considerably, salvation only serves to make me more excited about the new site and buy more product. Seems to me that what R_E and his sources were doing is not all bad. They're just fishing for sources. FIght the power.

We can answer that we're very confident without implying anything because by then, Wizards.com had shown the pictures of the 3 precon decks being released in GP.
Aside from being a big pain in the rear for R_E, this fishing expedition for leakage is really quite pathetic. If a company can't keep tabs on information then they failed either in hiring the employees or in monitoring them. Unfortunately we live in a highly lawsuit happy society and the lawyers get to collect tons of cash while going after someone who has nothing to do with the companys mistakes. Can't effectively keep tabs on your employees, well done Hasbro. Who's the one that screwed up here anyway?
This site BETTER NOT BE CLOSED.....I've put alot of dedication on this site (trading online wise) for it to be closed.......this aint fair.......and I do believe R_E never got a warning from them....which again is not fair....
I don't think there are necessarily ten others, nor are they necessarily members of Salvation. When you file a lawsuit, and you need to file it against one person and an unknown number of unknown other people, it's always just listed as 'John Does 1-10', regardless of whom they are or how many of them there actually are. It's just a catchall.
The point I would make is that WotC has no choice but to occassionally do something like this. If you have a trade secret, or intellectual property, you occasionaly have to protect said trade secret / intellectual property, or your copyright will become unenforceable. Copyright issues are why Disney pulls movies for a number of years then re-releases them for example.
I highly doubt WotC will even ask for monetary damages. Rather they will want to know who in the company is leaking trade secrets, and will probably want to work out ground rules for spoiler information.
Basically, WotC is protecting their copyrights. Imagine what would happen if they didn't. They couldn't protect their product legally from conterfeiting for example.

Wow is that ... hmmm, how to say stupid without it being a flame?
That was an irrational, knee-jerk reaction that upon reflection will prove inadequate.
First, MtGArghun is correct that Wizards is doing what it should to protect its copyrights.
Second, considering how R_E gets a lot of his information (anonymous electronic communication), how invasive, exactly, do you want Hasbro to be in its employees' lives? Should they load spyware on their home computers and hire PIs to follow them around?
Third, Hasbro has its own lawyers on retainer. They collect tons of cash whether they go to court or not. Given the choice between doing (relatively) nothing for a ton of cash and doing something for it, I am sure most would prefer to do nothing.
Fourth, there is no way they are suing R_E for monetary damages. R_E does not have any money as far as Hasbro is concerned.
And fifth, they are not going after R_E. They are going after his sources and he just has the unfortunate position of being the middle man.
I was planning on buying a box of Guildpact...but not now and never again.
WOTC has just lost a loyal customer.
Hasbro does not care.
Unless you bought your boxes from a WoTC store, you are not hurting them because they already sold it to your FLGS (favorite little game store).
WHAT!!!?!?!?
Discuss.
