This thread has fallen down the page a ways and is kind of old now, but with the recent influx of users and spam in the Rumor Mill, I feel this topic is still relevant and wanted to reply to something which I never really took the time to reply too, except with a quote by one of our own Rumor Mill mods.

This topic was created for the wrong reason.
There isn't so much trouble with spam in the rumor mill.
It is a trouble with posts that clog threads.
We have to delete posts that add nothing, so people won't have to wade through 50 garbage posts to find a good one.
It keeps the discussion good, and prevents it from turning sour.
I am very much against making posts not count in the rumor mill.
Tonight, after the newest preview card was posted, we saw this post from Hydrokinesis:

People please. Try to keep your posts on topic, we've had a rough day here, and people posting any old crap isn't helping the mod's cause one bit.
I will start handing out warnings for those who insist on handling themselves in a less than intelligent fashion. With close to 40+ reported posts in this thread alone tonight, I could really use help from you guys out there to see it that your actually contributing something constructive to the thread/mill without attacks/arguing over completely invalid discussions.

Please don't try to kid yourselves, the Rumor Mill every set gets the same way. Hydro has been begging all week for users to stop spamming, and it's quite honestly out of control. At this point, however, it's not even the post count that really matters. Should the post count be on in the Rumor Mill when we have problems like this? Hell no. We have post counts off here in Speak Your Mind and 80% of the posts here are more worthy than any of the posts in the Rumor Mill.
Drop the old MTGnews sentiments and realize that not everything is alright just because it's been in place for a long time; Just because it was once the set way doesn't make it the right way to do things, or even the best way, and the argument "Why fix what isn't broken" has no merit here at all. The way the Rumor Mill is done and moderated, even without leaks from R_E, is pathetic. We have Hydro working his ass off, one of the best members on this site going out of his mind, because you guys seem to think that if you change things up a bit it's going to bring down the apocalypse. The rumor mill is in need of re-working, and has been needed re-worked since before MTG Salvation was even born. As time goes on and Salvation's populace gets bigger, it's only going to get worse. Quit making the job harder on the moderators than it needs to be, quit making the users with common sense suffer through a majority of Rumor Mill posters that don't know what they're talking about most of the time when they aren't spamming, and do something instead of just sitting on your asses watching the spam pour in.
I noticed Hydro is reading this thread atm, and I felt I should clarify that the sitting on your asses watching part wasn't aimed towards you, bro. I appreciate the hard work you put into the Rumor Mill, and just to make sure you know, this is directed at the admins here. Hope you don't lose your mind digging through all those posts.
80% of the time it is o.k, like when we're not in full rumor seaosn swing, but these past two weeks have been takin' their toll on me. I got kinda frazzled this arvo trying to help Sed's out and ended up removing a chunk of his post my accident. I'm firmly of the opinion that the state of the mill needs to recieved some pretty special attention soon, lest my fingers need bandages from the blisters upon blisters from all of the reported posts.
The main prob from what I can see, is people are just plain posting whatever the hell they feel like regardless of whatever the mod's have said. (And it doesn't seem to be enough to tell 'em not to directly anymore)
We had the announcement up about the Mtg.com previews and on more than 4 days this past week we've had peeps posting up their own thread with the info, after being told explicitly not to. We have spam upon spam in every single thread, some of which needs to be re-deleted again and again coz people *just gotta have their one liners*. It's madness.
I dunno what can be done, bar some strict new Rumor mill policy which could turn things on it's head. I'm stumped.
Is the problem necessarily about post count though?
Is it not more about brain not in gear when posting and just getting overenthusiastic wanting their opinions to be heard, as everybody else is doing it.
Why not during rumor season draft in mods from quieter areas of the board to help deal with the obvious dross and not just leave it to two or three.
Actually I stated in my post that post count isn't the issue any more; The reason I posted in this thread was it ended up being discussion about Rumor Mill in general (and not only that but with the state that the Rumor Mill gets in, mosts posts shouldn't count anyway), and drafting mods in from other areas won't do anything, because as Hydro said, the posters there do whatever the hell they want. Most of them are random noobs that come for the Rumor Mill to add in their 2 cents so they can have the satisfaction that they said whatevers on their mind, and they disappear until the next rumor season. More mods isn't the answer to the problem we're having.
