Just comming off of being suspended for something I think was silly there is a few things I want to add to this topic. The Mods gave Galv TONS of chances to correct what he was doing wrong and asked him many many times to stop. Everyone thinks that Banning him for something this small is dumb but lets look at it in another way. If I was in Highschool and all day long in every class I would hum songs to myself and refused to quit even after being suspended mulitple times. Do you think I would eventually get suspended? I have no doubt in my mind I would. To someone who has little background info to all the times I was suspended and asked to stop it would sound silly.
In the end it comes down to the guy blowing off the Mods on this site and do whatever he wants. He deserved the Ban.
I'm all for banning him for being disrespectful, but lets call a rabbit a rabbit and not say it was for spelling mistakes.
If he was 10 or older, he wouldn't spell that badly. Hell, if he was 8 he wouldn't spell that badly. If he wasn't younger than 8, he knew he was being lazy and was probably told to spell correctly because it makes your posts almost unreadable and annoying, and makes you look like an idiot. 4 xampl, do u rly wnt 2 reed dis da way im typin it makes it kinda bleh dosnt it? hrd 2 rd? xactly, if i alweys posted lik dat u wudnt care wut i had 2 say, rite?
Apologies to him if English wasn't his first language.
Cards with the post 8th Edition, color shifted and future shifted templates as well as the timeshifted and Coldsnap reprint ones tastes a little sweeter. Any gold cards with the old faces are a little saltier. European foreign (except Russian) cards with the mentioned templates above are not as sweet as their English counterparts and has a wierd after taste. All taste tests were done from fresh packs and all cards tasted are not foil cards. I have yet to taste Asian and Russian cards.

Actually that's not that bad. LOL, but I'm not mocking you, I understand what you mean, and you make a valid point. However, my love for rebellion may be the reason I'm defending him.

At least one member of the moderation staff knows Galvatron IRL, and neither Galvatron nor that mod ever indicated to us that English was not his first language.

As a Grammar Nazi (and also not a native English speaker), I was one of the people who advocated for his banning, but I knew it'd take time because mods here are very lenient (I would have banned him the third time he posted:D). I was growing tired or reporting his posts, which actually had little content (I admit it, perhaps even more than mine:rolleyes:, but they didn't help the thread much, usually). I'm also no liberal, but I can't remember any one post of his that I liked. Little of what he said made sense. I think mods were VERY nice and patient with him. Kudos to them for being such saints!:)

In my opinion, it takes far more effort to go out of one's way to misspell at great lengths intentionally. I don't recall any of Galv's posts, but if they were anything like the parody-ban then he must have been trying really hard to keep up the misspelling.

i don't go for trenday an stop buying iito comercals baclberries can do much more than the iphone can you an even tether them an use them as a modem Att or apple won't let you do that
This is representative of pretty much every post he has ever made on this site.

I'll probaby get in infraction for what I'm about to type (which you should as well for parading on your high horse) but this is probably the biggest waste of time I've seen someone spend worrying about someone else that had little to no effect on you. The "I was getting tired or reporting his posts" made me laugh though just thinking someone could care that much. You knew it would take time? Do you hear yourself? You're no liberal eh; I figured that out in your first sentence. And it's growing tired "of" reporting his posts not "or"
If a post bothers one so much why read it? Ignore and continue. Simple. Should try it once in a while. Also, this is not a classroom atmosphere so do not compare such a situation to this. We are on a forum. A MTG Forum to be exact. What if he were the renowned bestestestest Magic player in the world- would you still ban him for bad spelling and grammar on a MTG Forum? Please. Get real.
If a post bothers one so much why read it? Ignore and continue.
Sounds simple enough to me. Let's replace all of our site rules with those two sentences and see how well things go from there.
What if he were the renowned bestestestest Magic player in the world- would you still ban him for bad spelling and grammar on a MTG Forum?
If he received sixteen infractions for it and told the moderator staff he was refusing to change his behavior? Yes, I would. When it comes to rules enforcement, "who you are" is insignificant compared to "what you're doing."

... and, it's get "an" infraction, not "in," never mind your lack of commas... but, i'm just saying.
i have no problem with edghyatt's reporting, or his comment regarding it - and i am as liberal as they come. (and, if you don't believe me, go look up my posts in our debate forum for proof.) capitalization notwithstanding, i try to be as perfect as possible with spelling and grammar. the site has rules regarding spelling and grammar, because the written word is the only method of communicating through the site. as a member of this site for nearly four years, and having had conversations with galvatron, i can say that his posts have been so wretched in terms of spelling and grammar that, often, it is hard to comprehend him.
the post binary showed above was his response to me, after i suggested that blackberries weren't all that (by goofing on a good friend IRL who is on MTGS about HIS love for the blackberry) while expressing my personal preference for an iPhone. not only did i get "attacked," but it took me unnecessary extra time to figure out what the hell he was trying to say in the first place.
he had unashamedly and repeatedly pointed out that he wasn't going to change.
analogy time! let's say i lived in a condominium building that had strict rules regarding noise. and, let's say, i repeatedly played my music at an obnoxiously loud volume - a volume clearly violating the rules of the condominium. ideally, i'd first be approached by "concerned neighbors," who would ask me to correct the problem. if i ignored their wishes and continued listening to music loudly, they would complain to the tenants' organization, who would then point out, to me, the "error of my ways." if i choose to ignore even this, i assure you i would be looking for a new place to live. (and, in many cases, at least one of the first two steps would just get skipped!)
MTGS was fair in handling him; as i mentioned earlier, he arguably could have been banned sooner!
Seriously, why must everything be a conspiracy of powerhungry lunatics to people?!
there are a number of reasons this is the case - not the least of which is that many people who do NOT have "power" see those who do as acting in secret/capriciously/etc. also in play here is people's willingness to be "victimized" by "oppressors" - what i like to call "persecution syndrome," though there's probably some real term that fits. basically, people, when told "no," would rather believe that everyone is out to get them, because it is easier for them to deal with "the man holding them down" than any of their own personal faults that may have contributed.

Where would you even get a spellchecker? let alone a grammar checker. With that guys posts a spell checker would probaby change his words to the wrong ones and you really wouldn't be able to understand what he was saying lol.
Maybe he was just stupid? Maybe he was raised by wolves and didn't have the language part of his brain developed yet. But this is a nerd forum. The guys who can spell are the jocks of the internet, picking on the weak.
I know a guy, his first language is english. Going for his masters degree right now. His grammar is SOOO bad, he would probably be instantly banned from this site. Smart guy, has alot going for him. Wouldn't be causing any problems. What is the background of the banned guy? I don't know. But if he really is just an idiot I don't think he should be banned for that. You say its because "he didn't follow the rules" But maybe hes so stupid he can't conceivably follow the rules. Did you guys link him some sort of spell check program or website? Was it even reasonable? Or did you say "go to dictionary.com to spell check all your words first" that would be insane.
But then again, he is wasting tons and tons and tons of internet space with his bad spelling. Hes blatantly disrupting the mtg salvation forums disk space.
You know, I met a person who thought "if somebody cannot spell a certain word, they do not know the meaning of that word". Pretty stupid huh?
INTO THE RAY OF THE SUN, MARCH OUR HERO, HUNTING THE DARKLORD, REBORN FROM THE BLOOD OF HIS GOD... HIS GOD... THE WARMASTER KRON.

I think I got a warning or even an infraction for bad spelling, and I stopped. ( well I tried to stop ). Its just that after playing so many fps games, I tend to worry about the speed ( slow typer = you get shot ).
If I were you, I would say that we banned him for noticable defiance. Not bad spelling. As said before, lets say that the rabbit is the rabbit, not the grass.
As for 16 infractions in 3 years, that is allittle less than 6 infractions a year, which means he got an infraction once every 2 months. Is that really enough to ban him?
Once again, I would ban him if I you, just I feel that saying you banned him for spelling is a lie.

IMO, he definatly deserved to get banned. 16 infractions is way over the limit if i am correct. even if it was something as stupid as bad grammar. if you ran around naked on your front lawn for 30 minutes each day and the cops had to tell you 16 times to stop, then arrested you, would you be like WTF why did i get arrested?
