To put it simply: When you post here, you are required to have read any and all relevant rules that apply to the areas of the forum that you plan to post on, as well as the general rules for this site. If you do not agree with the rules, then you are free not to post so you dont have to worry about it. If you do post, you are required to have read, understood, and follow the rules as they are listed. In my time here, Ive gotten a couple warnings and one infraction (oops), but I learned from it, and have been fine ever since I got smart and made sure I was fully aware of all the rules, and enjoy this site quite thoroughly.
The mods are fine. Some may not like the rules that may be viewed as a bit restrictive to some, but many of us posters do like that the threads are kept on topic, and relevant discussion is supported. Once again, if you cannot follow the rules, or dont agree with the rules, then find another place to post.
I (and for some strange reason I suspect many others) don't see the link between "I broke the rules I didn't read properly and then got in trouble for it" and "OMG persecution and draconian rule and evil evil mean nasty mods!"
These kinds of threads always amuse me.
Dude, seriously, this is what I'm talking about. If you were this condescending to my face I would have already broken your nose.
Dude, seriously, this is what I'm talking about. If you were this condescending to my face I would have already broken your nose.
ok, here is where I post something relevent
Auto-Banning Guidelines:
Breaking any of these rules will result in your account being instantly Banned:
Malicious Links
No tubgirl, goatse, lemonparty, etc. Also, do not link people to spyware or to a page with malicious code.
Snuff or Child Pornography
As expected, this material will get you Banned and reported to the proper authorities.
Scams or Ripping
Attempting to cheat people out of their money/cards subversively. If you are confirmed as a ripper in the Market Street forums you will be banned and lose all your positive references. Failing to reply to a Bad Trader Report thread about you within the assigned time frame will also result in Banning as a Ripper.
Evading a Limitation of Site Privileges
If your account is limited in some manner (Suspension from the site, Suspension/Banning of Market Street privileges), you are expected to abide by those restrictions. This prevents use of an alternate account, having a friend post for you, or circumventing these restrictions in any other manner. If you are Suspended from the site, the only acceptable use of the PM system is to complete trades already in progress at the time of your Suspension, or to discuss your suspension with staff. Any other use of the PM system is a violation of this rule.
Threats
Making any sort of physical or legal threat towards another user, Moderator, or the site itself will result in an immediate ban.
We, as users, have tried to be calm, but you just threatened violence.....thats not cool.
I did NOT say if he was face to face to me that I would break his nose. I said IF HE WAS THAT CONDESCENDING TO MY FACE, I would have already broken his nose. It's a conditional and hypothetical situation that doesn't exist. If I made some statement like "I'm going to hunt you down and beat you up" THAT would be a threat. I did not, nor will I make such a statement.
Let me clarify. I have no intention of physical violence to anyone on this forum. If you interpreted what I said as such, you are incorrect in your interpretation.

Ok, but here is something. If the mods dont warn/infract or ban you for that hypothetical, then how can you say they are out of control. I'd believe a power hungry mod would take even the smallest thing to punish someone who says things about them. And no im not flaming you or trolling you, im just pointing out something.
I'm actually surprised they haven't yet. As quick as they jump on some of the smallest and most insignificant things, I expected this thread to be closed and to find myself banned/suspended by now.
You got infracted. You overreacted. I (and others) pointed it out. You responded with "I theoretically physically assault anyone who theoretically uses certain tones of voice when theoretically speaking to me in real life." If you can't handle someone talking to you in a tone you don't like, I'd recommend avoiding the internet. People can be real dicks online.
Again: You broke a rule. You got warned about breaking rules. You broke another rule. You got punished with an infraction. Seems about as clear-cut as these things get.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
I'm actually surprised they haven't yet. As quick as they jump on some of the smallest and most insignificant things, I expected this thread to be closed and to find myself banned/suspended by now.
The mods ive dealt with arent bad. Annorax is a fair trader. Riannalin is Australian, and while sometimes harsh, is a lot of fun to converse with. Mandershex is a fun lassie. Extremicon is the King of the Brew. Yukora is....well, i dont know much. Viperesque is a very fair mod. (image leeched and got warned, and in a very "its an auto-warn at least and i know you wont do it again". And the Rulings mods, while not my favorite style, show willingness to listen to feedback.
I say you should just sit down and idly chat with the mods and such, get to know them..... I did and it made my life easier.
Look man, you are upset, we get that, no one is likely to be happy when they get a warning or an infraction. You obviously didnt intend to break a rule, but ignorance or intention aside, you did break a rule, got warned for it, and then broke another (bigger) rule, and got an infraction. As myself and others have said, a single warning and a single infraction are not the end of the world. Just learn from this situation, take the time to read up on all of the forum rules, and if you follow them, youll be fine :).
So you admit that you were intentionally using a malicious verbal attack directed at me?
What part of his posts were malicious? Or attacking? Are we not reading the same posts here?
You'll find that we're mods are typically much more lenient if you're a friendlier user. If you repeatedly stir the water, you're just giving us less incentive to go easy on you.
I'm actually surprised they haven't yet. As quick as they jump on some of the smallest and most insignificant things, I expected this thread to be closed and to find myself banned/suspended by now.
While it's highly likely that this thread won't be open for long because it's not serving any purpose other than proving you had entirely the wrong idea about how this site and its staff work, a ban or suspension isn't warranted for creating the thread.
The bit about breaking someone's nose for being condescending is something that can't ever happen again, though, and if you do post something like that again, you will very likely take some time off.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
Look man, you are upset, we get that, no one is likely to be happy when they get a warning or an infraction. Yep. I totally get that. It's frustrating, but I get it. Thanks for not being rude about it. The problem is the situation has escalated to people being condescending/flaming and none of them will get any kind of warning or infractions for their behavior. I made a mistake and didn't mean any actual harm, but it feels like I am singled out by the mods. It's a double standard, these guys are defending the Moderators actions, so it's okay to break the rules now.
So you admit that you were intentionally using a malicious verbal attack directed at me?
Um, no, and I don't even see where you would assume Caex is using a malicious verbal attack directed at you. He's admitting a well-known fact: people are meaner on the internet than in person. If you can't handle this civil of an explanation, then you're not going to have a fun time on the internet.
So you admit that you were intentionally using a malicious verbal attack directed at me?
Oh, not at all.
I'm just saying that if you can't handle people talking to you in tones you don't like (whether they be real or imagined), the internet might not be the place for you.
Also, "malicious verbal attack"?
More like "using hyperbole to demonstrate a point."
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p

To the OP, see what i said. The mods arent draconian in nature (although if you steal there gold......), they are reasonable people that have...well....reason. Annorax could of easily closed the thread and suspended you, INSTEAD, he stated very calmly that
1. Creating this thread isnt ban/suspendable
2. Hypothetical or not, what you said is not tolerated and you can be suspended for it.
And you know what, talking with Annorax in the past year, im not suprised by this statement. He is an admin for a reason, he's proven to be very good at seperating malicious intent from misguided anger and how to resolve either or.
I unknowingly broke a couple rules, got a warning and an infraction. Okay, I got that. It seems absurd to me. It seems like the Moderators don't take intention into account, but are only concerned with the letter of the rule and not the spirit of the rule. I wasn't intending to spam anything. But, clearly it's also against the rules to flame other people. You can't tell me you don't see an obvious difference between someone's posts like:
Look man, you are upset, we get that, no one is likely to be happy when they get a warning or an infraction. Dude, seriously, this is what I'm talking about. If you were this condescending to my face I would have already broken your nose.
My point was that treating people in a rude and condescending way in real life is a great way to get your nose broken. Why is it suddenly acceptable to do so on this site? Acceptable to be rude, and to mock, and to be condescending on the same site that it's considered spam (and unacceptable/infraction worthy) to post a picture that I seriously thought was relevant to the topic (and then subsequently delete it). It seems ridiculous to me. I did not in any way threaten him, I was making a point. The point is, you can't talk to people that way - eventually you'll say it to the wrong person who will indeed break your nose, or worse.
Caex generalized posts like this, and you are acting in the exact way he generalized it. It's a bit silly. He's not being condescending to you, he's just generalizing how some people need to complain about the backlash from their ignorance of the rules. If you didn't read the rules, or didn't think before you posted, then how are you without fault?
I can understand arguing a Warning or an Infraction, but you aren't. You are trying to imply that the site and it's Moderators somehow wronged you. If you think there is something wrong with the rules, create a compelling argument, instead of pointing out "problems" that the rules already cover.
The only argument I have against Warnings is that most Moderators will never remove a Warning, even if there is no grounds for the Warning to exist in the first place, because it flags you to get upgraded to an Infraction.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
Well honestly the amount of emotion you're putting into a warning and an infraction is absurd. You broke the rules, it happens, don't keep doing it and you'll be fine.
The Spam rule is like this Post at least 3 words that aren't off topic(It could be as simple as, Hey, I made this to show support) and you would be fine.
And if you feel that others are mocking you, report it and move on.
And on another note, after all your accusations, the fact That Annorax, who has been regarded as Thre Notzi Mod, stopped by to say his piece, and you're not a pile of ashes, greatly cripples your argument.
I unknowingly broke a couple rules, got a warning and an infraction. Okay, I got that. It seems absurd to me. It seems like the Moderators don't take intention into account, but are only concerned with the letter of the rule and not the spirit of the rule. I wasn't intending to spam anything. We can't simply go "well, this guy didn't MEAN to spam so we will just not infract him." If we were to this, then when somebody does spam, they can point back and say "BUT I DIDN'T MEAN TO". Then if I choose to ignore them, I am playing favorites. If I choose to listen, then everyone gets to spam. I feel bad for the users who clearly didn't mean to break the rules, and now have to suffer my wrath. But they did BREAK THE RULES, and if I am not going to enforce them what is the point of having them in the first place?
As for the individual posts you mentioned., some of them are clearly condescending, but that is not against the rules, even if I don't appreciate it on the forum. However, there is a difference between "This thread amuses me" which is actually closer to spam if that is all the post contains and "I would have broken your nose if you had said that to my face." One is condescending, I agree, but thinking you are sitting on a high horse is just being obnoxious. The second statement, however, is clearly an assault on someone.
It seems like the Moderators don't take intention into account, but are only concerned with the letter of the rule and not the spirit of the rule.
I'm honestly baffled how you can continue to beat this drum after committing an offense punishable by automatic ban under the rules, yet you received nothing more than a verbal warning.
Is there any evidence at all that can convince you that you're wrong about this?
