First off if this thread belongs somewhere else, by all means, it can go there.
For now, since I feel that it is related to the community and condition of the site, I will post it here.
I just wanted to know one thing out of curiosity, something that goes out to the masses of people who frequent MTGS:
-Do you mostly consider this website a place for strictly discussing things related to magic the gathering, getting spoilers, ect?
or -Are you more interested in the community itself (forum games, drama, whatever water cooler stuff) than with getting information on whatever the latest trends happen to be in Standard/Modern/Legacy/(insert format here)?
Anyways just thought it might be interesting to see what peoples opinions on the site are. I know the numbers may be skewed because of the amount of lurkers we have on these boards, but I would assume that they would automatically vote for choice 1 anyway because otherwise they would probably have an account. Here's hoping to see the results!
For me, the site is mostly about the game, but im learning to enjoy the community as well. I'm seeing peoples posts, and starting to recognize which posters have more experience with the game and information i can most likely trust.
i'm really here for both, about 70/30 community/spoilers/ respectively.
But i still voted community, even if it's not "all the way"

Huh pretty interesting results so far. From what feedback I've gotten from the "random sampling" of people who decided to post their opinions it looks like things are about 50/50.
It would be interesting to see what the correlation is between the time a member spends on the site to how much he/she supports the community of MTGS.
Is there only so much magic related content one can post before they inevitably take a detour?
In my case it was about a year and 1K posts solidly in the Rulings area before I ventured out into the other sections of the board.
I came as the main WOTC boards are crap and this had and still does have an active group of people asking rules questions which is the side I am mainly interested in. But I have now ventured off to the Non MTG side of the site.

Community I guess?
I suppose, but community would be used extremely loosely.
I stopped playing Magic ages ago and more or less lost all interest in it (except for novel sets and their cards, but that's perhaps because I'm interested in game and, by inclusion, card design). When the old rules were absolutely - oh, heck - molested, I swore to myself that I'd never, ever come back to playing the game again.
If I worked out my stuff, I would be gone, not here. I should go do real-life things and/or kill time in real life and/or play pool (there's money in that, and it's fun :p).
To be honest I feel this question is slightly loaded as the poll doesn't allow the 'Both' option.
I wouldn't want people to observe any poll results and assume that people that 'come for the cards' don't think the community here is any good.
Also, to be quite frank, I doubt people would bother coming here if they didn't like the community, though I don't know why they wouldn't since MTGS is quite the place to gather!
As for me, I come for both cards and community.

Excited for M13 Limited? What do you think the format will look like? Head over to the limited forum and let us know what you think.
When I first voted, it was originally approximately 2:1 (cards:community ratio). Now it's approximately 3:4. That is... definitely interesting.
That's what I assumed it'd be. Most of our members that are here strictly for cards are unlikely to check out the Community Issues forum with any regularity. You know who would check that regularly? People who care about the community.
Well, and also people who love drama. :kanyeshrug:
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.

Very true.
I'm in theory here for both, but discussing Magic cards is too much serious business on top of all the other serious business, so it's like 99% Community for the time being
But like so many others, I came for the cards and stayed for the community.

I set up the poll as such because I wanted people to evaluate their own interests and decide which was more important to them at this time.
Obviously there is probably many people (like myself) who enjoy both, but it is that tough choice to put down one or the other that I wanted to see people make. I was tempted to put both, but are the people who would choose that choice really 50/50 or is it even anywhere close to 51/49, because in the second case that would not be "both." Although you could still say you enjoy the cards and/or the community, it would definitely be one over the other that attracts you to this website. Anyways that is what these responses are for, to discuss and/or explain your choice!

Yeah, when I initially thought of starting the poll I wondered if the vote would end up lopsided in favor of the community because of this, however, showing have been strong on both sides so I guess it wasn't so bad after all...
Outside of the New Phyrexia god-book being released, the website has failed to draw in the crowds by the means of it's own legacy for quite some time. I fail to see how anyone still comes to MTGS for the sake of the cards, because with the foot being put down on spoilers by WotC the only spoilers we get outside of official media outlets are in the week prior to the pre-release when people start opening product. Even then, it's the commons/uncommons to fill in the set, and last time around WotC released the entire spoiler a week before the pre-release. Where social media is concerned MTGS is so far behind compared to other online Magic resources, and because of our history, we don't even get our own exclusive preview cards.
That leaves the community which, if you read CI much, has a lot to be desired. Being that as it is, I'd say I'm here mostly because old habits die hard.
I didn't play between early 2006 all the way to mid-2011, but I still posted here. The outside-Magic forums are severely lacking, but contains enough to issue a weekly visit or so. Now that I play again, I'm here everyday.
I guess I came here because, as Xen said, old habits die hard. It was once my home

However, I don't imagine I would visit here if I had zero interest in the game.
So, I suppose the game has priority for me, but I choose this site over others for a reason.
(Actually, thinking about it, I think the fact that I have joined a clan is what keeps me staying here the most.)
