I appreciate that, Viricide, thank you. You've helped clear up some rather egregious misconceptions I had about what you were saying.. not so much advocating "being on a pedastal" and more "standing tall," and instead of you meaning that we should bullrush indecency instead we should give our knowledge and support to those in the best position to handle it. Again, I thank you, and you've swayed me to a great degree, which thank God, fighting you was wounding me greatly.
Unfortunately, even though we are now in agreement I do still fear that there's a systemic problem that must be answered: in order for the staff to be welcoming and kind, they must stop being so eerily silent, and some of that is understandable but it's still something we must address, I think. This is why I recoiled so hard at what I thought you were saying before: I'm theorizing that many of the staff feel like stepping into CI, hell, into any of the forums, is simply putting them in the crosshairs.
How do we stop that?
Ditto, my friend. Disagreements and discussions are awesome, but I doubt either of us had any desire or intention to bicker. Similarly, you've pointed out some things that I hadn't considered before, most notably the unintended chilling effect that the staff position can have on a poster. I have a feeling I never experienced that because I joined the staff so "young", but I can see how it would frustrate someone with an established "style" that he/she didn't believe was fitting for the staff.
Your second point is well taken, and it makes it much more clear to me why you initially had such a strong negative reaction. I know that various well respected staff members and users have markedly different opinions on the matter, but in general I agree with Azrael's recent point that one of the most desirable aspects of a staff member - especially an administrator -- is the willingness to wade into the thick of things and hash out issues with the members. I always found Sene to be in line with that strategy, and we all know Nai is one of the kings of it, so I have hope that their collective effort will be sufficient to guide the staff toward a more "verbose" method of doing business.
