I have no idea what you mean or are trying to say.
Seds is absolutely 100% right about MTGS, but picking and choosing who you can see will only make it worse. You thought the Gutter was bad? Wait until you can ignore certain peoples' posts and form little groups and recycle your rarefied thoughts until you have nothing left to say.
Yeah, real conductive to a community. It will absolutely serve your needs, but it will also only further insulate and isolate MTGS from the rest of the Magic community.
MTGS is already the laughingstock of the online Magic world. It doesn't need any encouragement.

Yeah, real conducive to a community.
Why do you think team forums would mean they couldn't post other places? I already use Facebook for our team discussion. We don't recycle thoughts any more than any other team. A better means of discussing is the only thing that would be nice.

Can we please not make a big issue about the Gutter for what feels like the third time in as many months? Grievances exist on both sides, but collective bargaining is in place to address them. Raising the issue again serves no purpose but to inflame users and through more emotional investment undermine the negotiation process. In short, it's effective as an attack, but works against finding a solution.
I guess OP wants it to be 'keyworded' like "dies" was. What word would you replace ETB with though?
When Aegis Angel is born?
When Huntmaster of the Fells arrives?
When Kitchen Sphinx lands?
When Faerie Imposter busts in?
When Dread Cacodemon pops in?
When Malfegor shows up?
I mean, get over your anger and enjoy these forums.
Why so serious?
I've been here for a while - longer than you, in fact. It's been so much of a broken record with the Gutter (and I do pay attention) that any complaints will be viewed as thus, particularly by individuals such as yourself who are a part of it.
Your initial response to Bitsy was part of that same broken record, so it's rather hypocritical to call me one.
I have no anger towards anyone here. Believe me, I've been a proponent of minimizing anger in myself and others as much as possible. The Gutter seems to be an endless cause of anger, thus bringing down the site as a whole.
Revitalizing this website, or anything, should not be a matter taken lightly. There can be no sacred cows on the table, and it should be a focused, considered conversation, which every other post (besides a large portion of seds' first post, particularly the concluding statement... and your reply to me) has been thus far.
Well, for what it's worth, whenever I mention Salvation to people at my LGS, everyone who's heard of it has a low opinion. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a "laughingstock," but it has a reputation as being so full of drama that it's just not worth trying to read.
Try trading online with no recourse on social media.
It is a scary thought.
My wife is part of two online "swap meet" type groups. It works great. Honestly I'm surprised there isn't an app for that.

I think this site takes itself too seriously. The excessive policing, the drama-queen mod/admin war, and all the other completely unnecessary intrigues. Chill the... ...out, and play some MTG.
That said, its still the best MTG resource online, alongside magiccards.info.
For the record, I know of plenty of people who enjoy using MTGS despite some of the larger issues the site as a whole by just not giving a **** about them.
I'm not saying apathy works, but it may be a cause of the strength that vocal minorities tend to have here.

Now playing Transformers: Legends. 27-time top tier finisher and admin of the TFL Wikia site.
Here's a suggestion: to reduce drama, simply click on a user's name, go to "view profile" and find the "put this user on your ignore list" option. You see, by removing that user's ability to troll, you no longer risk emotional responses. This will clear up the staff's schedule dramatically, and allow them to work on other issues. Mods, don't be afraid to try this out as well! It's possible to view the user's comments even if they're on your ignore list once they post in your area of moderation.
You cannot ignore people with moderator status, however.
I don't think there are any mods really worth ignoring. Sure, there are always personal differences, but you can always ignore them the hard way if you really want.
I for one can say that the people in our area, and most of my customers (and its a lot of them) use and enjoy this site for this reason or that. Most just choose to ignore the drama and CI alltogether, because thats not what they care about the site for. Many I know use market street (I cannot even begin to count the sheer number of people that have come into the shop and commented on reading what I and others have posted in that part of the forums). Most of our customers and players use the salvation rumor mill to check on spoilers for the new set. I point people in the direction of this site and mention that I post on here all the time, I cant recall a single instance of someone commenting negatively toward the site. Some may choose to use other sites instead of ours, which is of course completely up to them, but they havent said anything negative. Ive always viewed mtgs as being that haven site for the more casual oriented player, rather than the hardcore magic tournament players. Other sites like SCG and CF are going to have a much greater focus on that and thus bring in those people. I see nothing wrong with us being a bit more casual oriented, being as how there are far more casual players that exist for the game than there are hardcore tournament players. And yes, there are far more casual players that would look online for information, rumors, suggestions, trading, etc, than there are hardcore tournament players that would look online for information.
This site isnt perfect, no site is, and its going to have its drama, because it does have such a huge community that makes use of it, and because it also caters to non-magic discussion there will be butting of heads, people having different ideas of how things should be, and plenty of people complaining because they got infracted/warned/otherwise because those users chose not to follow the rules, or didnt read the rules enough to know better (hence the warnings). Personally I think people need to stop complaining as much as they have been, and just try to enjoy the site for what it is, and what it may eventually grow to be. Changes are always going to take time. Some change is fine, but I wouldnt want to see the site change so much so as to it harming its main draws and what does keep people coming back.

There are none. It was just a note.

Social Media will not prevent MTGS from becoming bigger. I've noticed that as time has went on, especially since the NPH spoiler snafu, the true leaks have become less and less. Wizards has spent time tightening security. I'm not advocating anything here.
In terms of articles, finding someone with a powerful, communicative writing style would be preferable. While it seems that Standard players are the bulk of most people, I've been hanging around at my LGS recently, and noticed alot of casual players in and out, people I don't see at FNM regularly. I think that catering to two or three audiences would be a start. Several members here already run a great EDH podcast, while there are parts of WOTC following this forum, at least some from the Rules Committee for EDH. I'm sure that there's knowledgeable FNM players here, and there could be trials for content.
If anything layout and content should be released fairly simultaneously. It'd be easier to try and bring people in under the pretense of new rather than the stank of old.

That's funny. The only times I hear about this place IRL is when I play norin; "is that the same a gaka's?" and when I mention a spoiled card and tell them where I saw it. The response is usually "that place is terrible"... But Maybe they're just thinking of the rumor toilet.
Galspanic doesn't even talk about MTGS when we play, unless it's about some deck list.

The EDH stax primer When you absolutely, positively got to kill every permanent in the room, accept no substitutes.
I think the sky is far from falling, but with spoiler seasons narrowing and wizards intentionally leaking more stuff we have lost an edge in that department.
I'd like the site to be a little more mainstream and change the perception. I think to accomplish that you would have to:
Have more and better articles by named players. I can name at least 6-10 people on this site that are good enough. I don't know if they are the most popular people here or if they can write worth a flip, but I know they are good enough. Heck half the people posting in standard competitive are prob = or > in skill with the people posting on mananation, so I don't see this being a big deal.
The front of the site needs to be more visually appealing and have more content so people don't get here the way I do. (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com)
I don't know what the revenue situation is or how it would work, but we need a way to give incentive to these writers so its worth their time to share the knowledge.
It's not just tournament magic either. We have one of the best Commander references available. If you want to rebrand, you have to figure out how to tap into our strengths.

I agree on the commander thing. IMO, we have some of the most diverse deck builders and players. Im sure there are over 100 decklists complete with precise, well written primers. It also helps that the RC frequents the board with questions and input as well. The mods there do a good job of being more flexible about discussion and not allowing every thread to turn into "casual Vs. competitive" or "the banlist discussion thread part 13: facial blasts and crab bake party".

For exactly the reasons you stated, to get information, ideas, and thoughts from people outside their own paygroup.

Amazingly enough, I post on the Facebook team group and here.
Oh no, I'm so concerned that someone might know I'm Ral Zarek on MTGS. My social life is ruined! I can never show my face in public ever again!
Do you just not talk to anyone at your LGS or...

Sure.
Go to a game shop. Ask someone playing Magic at the game shop if they have ever been to MTGS, and if so, what they think about it.
It's fun, try it!
My lgs nearly all use (and like) MTGS. Please substantiate your claims with more than anecdotal evidence.
Well, I guess your LGS is the outlier.
