It needs to not compromise the main function of the site, which is the Rumor Mill.
And this is what I'm worried about, in addition to how the staff handled this, that if MTGS loses the ability to post unconfirmed and unofficial spoilers, we lose most of our traffic.

But why would we lose this ability, when WoTC allows the posting of such spoilers on their very own forums?

They mean threads like the 'spoilerama' thread, where a guy is POSTING the actual spoilers in the thread.
WoTC doesn't police reposting of already released information.
Because Wizards understands that once something has been leaked, the damage has been done, and they shouldn't come down on those who are reposting the information.
Even though MTGS doesn't get leaks every set these days, people still come here *expecting* to see them.
Without them, especially with other sites like mythicspoiler around, people don't have as much incentive to come.
If the tradeoff is that MTGS gets preview cards, the tradeoff is not worth it one bit. The site was given that offer years ago, and we didn't even think about going for it.

It's the leakers that caused this mess, the staff were just trying to navigate it by the seat of their pants, so to speak.
So, it's the guy at SCG who posted on 9/11 that should really take the fall then.

The explosion that... destroyed our city, razed our home, and turned our fields into wasteland was nothing compared to what was now happening to those who survived.
Because Wizards understands that once something has been leaked, the damage has been done, and they shouldn't come down on those who are reposting the information.
And I think they also understand that if leaks stop being posted on MTGS first, they'll just move elsewhere, not stop happening.
So stopping MTGS would accomplish nothing. It could even make things worse for them, as the new go-to site for leaks could be a less=reputable site with bad stuff like malware or counterfeiting advice.

Well, I think more of a WoTC worry would be a site that had a more anonymous style of posting, one that they would be less able to track down people posting leaks than on here.
Little known fact: If WoTC wants to, they can and will track you down if you post something here they really don't like.

I kinda dislike Curse.
Granted, they`re not as terribad as, lets say, wikia (and they really suck), but still I dislike how Curse handles stuff, especially the page design, which is usually cluttered with useless scripts, like ones that make a picture preview blend in or so, which only increases load time and forces me to shut down my noscript and stuff like that to prevent the page from breaking.
If this happens, I will probably stop frequenting & lurking around here.

I'll admit, I'm a bit apprehensive about change generally, and I do worry about our site's diminishing autonomy. However, there does seem to be a potential upside, so here's to hoping!
I am sad to see that Sene will not be leading us through this transition.

What does this mean for unofficial spoilers like the Spoiler-rama thread?
Weird arcaik work a rounds or just strait up preventing them? I've read through each of the responses, and I'm still left confused.
If no more unofficial spoilers, fine. I'll still use the rumor mill for foreign spoilers and getting things before the Mothership puts them on their visual spoiler.
If we still get folks posting things from their open boxes even better!
On another note; Curse is an US-based company, and WotC could simply send a nice and formal C&D to them, and then, I can assure you, MTGS is dead (or something very similar to it) by the end of the month.

I`d still imagine that it`s easier for WotC to C&D the company that runs this entire **** than to C&D the company thats merely hosting this site for a private person.
IANAL, tho, so maybe I missed something.

Has it ever occurred to you that Wizards sees the largest MTGS community in the world as something other than a nuisance? Do you know how much money we make for them by being here? Yes, they could C&D us, but a strong relationship will benefit both parties more.
Then why do we get ignored by WotC for their 'official spoilers', well, pretty much ever since?
I`d imagine that it`ll also be much more lucrative to C&D a company that`s running multiple of sites, like curse does, than to C&D some random guy who`s hosting a page somewhere in the US; that could very well be the reason why WotC still hasn`t shot us down.
Of course it isn`t necessary for them to kill us, and it is probably even a smart move to let us live, but I can very well imagine that someone at WotC/Hasbros will be idiotic enough to do it at some point (even more so when they can potentially sue the **** outta curse), and, well, then we got a situation.

It'd be even more lucrative to mend relations with said company.

I guess OP wants it to be 'keyworded' like "dies" was. What word would you replace ETB with though?
When Aegis Angel is born?
When Huntmaster of the Fells arrives?
When Kitchen Sphinx lands?
When Faerie Imposter busts in?
When Dread Cacodemon pops in?
When Malfegor shows up?
Would be cool if we could get like a couple spoilers every day, starting with commons and ending with mythics around launch.
Seems like it would increase traffic and cause more hype for a set.

Why does MTGS need official spoilers? The unofficial ones are larger in number, and a ttract users in the first place. Other places may be official spoilers but they always end up here anyway.
I could understand where this move would be useful to the owners but I think it could ultimately dissolve the user base...

Suppose that it would be indeed cool, it wouldn't ever happen unless Wizards isn't particularly concerned with its financial viability and reducing risks.
I could understand where this move would be useful to the owners but I think it could ultimately dissolve the user base...
Well... You could say that each and every day, the users are changing and that the userbase has changed, even "dissolved", several times over.
At this juncture, I'm confused as all as to what's going on with this site. If Hannes were to transfer custodial responsibilities to Curse.com, then that is what it is; what happens subsequent to that happens and I can't do much about it. It would be good to have a sure thing; but, eh. We'll cross that bridge if and when we get there.
I just feel like if they acquire this site and then nerf the rumor mill, they are throwing the baby out with the bathwater...
So do they.
The people looking to buy the site are far from stupid - they want this place to make them money and have a pretty good grasp on why we have the 100K+ members and countless guests.
The Rumor Mill really wouldn't change. Instead of directly posting unofficial spoilers to these forums first (which happened few and far between in recent years compared to pre-RE times anyways; heck, you can tell the site's demographics may be shifting with threads likethese, suggesting a newer population of users that don't remember the site 5+ years ago), someone would just upload pictures/scans to something like imgur or some form of social media first then link to that ("hey guys, look at these new cards I find on [such and such site]"). It isn't really any more difficult to track people down here for posting spoilers than anywhere else.
I really don't think this is going to be as big of a deal as people are imagining. I'll be slightly annoyed if I have to create a new account/log onto a different site instead of here, but I'm sure I'll manage. #firstworldproblem
As long as this doesnt affect the Rumor Mill in regards to posting unofficial spoilers, then this change will probably be for the best.
If we get pressure to not post things like the recent RtR leaks, then this change will be for the worse, and MTGS will eventually dissolve as another forum takes its place.
Not much more to discuss, really.
