I don't really think curse taking over should have any effect on the unofficial spoilers. If you take a look at the WOTC forums you'll see they have all the same spoilers posted there that we do here. If WOTC doesn't crack down on them on their own site, why should curse stop them here?

I have been visiting MMO-Champion for almost 5 years now and that site was taken over by Curse too not long ago.
So let me tell you what changed: Nothing!
Except for one 0.5 inch banner on the top of the page and a link to the other curse sites on the bottom I haven't experienced any change at all.
And you don't even notice that unless you're nitpicking.
Also does the current owner still maintain partial ownership with a say in results with cursed?
Bibi is still the boss of MMO-C, he's just officially employed by Curse as far as I know.
Could be wrong though, but I doubt it. I haven't really read up on all of that since I didn't notice any change.
Well I dunnowhat any of this is going to mean, but from what I can gather it looks like it will probably be a good thing
would this mean more articles coming from mtgs? or less, or no difference at all? I have been wishing that we could get more regular articles up and running consistently.
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Blah. This happened to Guild Wars Guru, Guild Wiki, and PvX Wiki and you know what? They all stayed exactly the same. The community is the same and the staff stayed the same. Its been about two years and while a few people left because of the sale most people stayed and things were fine.
I just hate that the potential sale was kept from the public for as long as it was and that the denizens of the Gutter were given preferential status by hearing about it first. Why don't the mods and admins realize that the pillow talk they have with any non-staff member about important matters regarding the site has the potential to be revealed to the public? The staff seems way too surprised and its sad.
I just hate that the potential sale was kept from the public for as long as it was and that the denizens of the Gutter were given preferential status by hearing about it first.
It was leaked to the gutter by a rogue (and currently unknown) staff member. It wasn't told to the gutter in any official capacity.
I guess OP wants it to be 'keyworded' like "dies" was. What word would you replace ETB with though?
When Aegis Angel is born?
When Huntmaster of the Fells arrives?
When Kitchen Sphinx lands?
When Faerie Imposter busts in?
When Dread Cacodemon pops in?
When Malfegor shows up?
I think the scariest part about this is that Curse is so much bigger than MTGS. It could feel like Walmart buying out the Mom and Pops store down the road if suddenly new bosses come in like this.
I feel like this is our community, how could anyone dare come in and take over? They don't know us! So I'll say again, remaining relatively autonomous is essential.
I feel like this is our community, how could anyone dare come in and take over? They don't know us! So I'll say again, remaining relatively autonomous is essential.
Because they have money and were able to convince the owner that they have our best interests in mind.

EDIT: nath'd
The fact is that MTGS could use a facelift and Curse has the resources to make that happen. The community will be unaffected. At worst the forum will shut down for a bit while everything is moved. The overlords at Curse ensure quality in exchange for resources and aren't terribly interested in drastically changing the communities under their umbrella. Think of it more as a coop than a corporation.
No one is forced to purchase anything from Curse!! Not ever. I think that premium content is optional and so the whole premium membership may be less of a thing on MTGS if Curse buys us. Maybe one day we can be fancy like SCG and offer premium stuffs but I like free stuff and the fact that we offer free resources is a boon to us.

The front page will get a kick in the pants, we're already working on this anyway.
Can I request a (simple short) list of what changes are expected at the moment, something as simple as
Front page - total rework
rumor mill - MTGS official spoilers
mafia - nothing
gutter - increased moderation of unsavory topics
trading post - nothing
would be nice
(and information and transparency is always a good thing, as it seems you all are learning)

If Curse acquires MTGS I think it will be overall a good thing. I remember when Curse acquired MMO-Champ people were very much freaking out, but Boubouille kept the users informed and (imo) the site got better. MMO-Champ was transferred to new, better servers, they were able to increase staff, increase the overall size of the site, plenty of good things that I as a user was able to see.
9 pages of discussion is a lot to go through, so I am just goinmg to ask my question:
If the Curse Conglomerate corporation takes over MtgSalv, what is going to happen to all of the moderators? This is like a "mom n' pop" business being sold to money-swallowing big-wig, where there is a clean sweap of all the positions that are held by those of power.
1) What I am basically asking is, are all the mods going to lose their mod-positions? If so, will Curse hire on others as paid positions to be mods?
2) Or does anyone think the mods will be kept, then given hourly/salary?
3) Since the site's going corporate, and corporations are in the business of making money, will we see more banners/ads here?
I am concerned because there are some beloved mods here that many of us will not want to go?
4) Also, is does Curse have anything to do w/ "curse client" - a program that has been used in the past for down loading games from the internet?

There's not much concrete right now. Most of our thoughts are based on the Curse Terms of Service.
Front Page is going to get a total rework and be awesome. Curse wants that, we want that. Good to know.
As for the rumor mill, I direct you here. The Curse guy in charge, Boubouille, mentions that there's no plans to stop leaks.
Mafia's got no changes that I know of.
I don't know much on the Gutter yet either. That's going to take some talking. I'm not sure yet how our rules fit in with Curse's ToS, where we're able to be lenient, and where we have to fit the bill. That's one of the reasons this news took so long to get out.
I don't think the Market Street will have any changes, apart from mods being completely safe from issues if a trade goes wrong. We've been worried about that in the past.

From what we've been told, we'll remain autonomous regarding our staff. We can ask Curse to post on other sites in the network if we need experienced mods or admins, but that's about it.
I felt a great disturbance in the force, like a thousand decks across several formats suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has been printed
It feels to me like a mom-and-pop store being taken over by a large corporation (as has been said), or a dictatorship taking over.
I have a foreboding that this will not end well.
Just my two cents.
I don't think the comparison is particularly apt for a couple of reasons. Namely, the dictator doesn't care what other people think when he/she comes in and makes some changes around these parts. The dictator just executes everyone who dares to oppose him (/her). Nor is this the large corporation doing a hostile takeover of the mom and pop shop.
First, there are other sites. Including ones that might be created in the future, possibly by current MTGS'ers. It's not too difficult to create a forum and get some forum code and get started. But more importantly than that, Curse wouldn't be interested in having this site just to have an MTG site. They could create one organically and internally if that's their desire. They want this particular site, which means they are interested in acquiring the community and the userbase as well as the site's backbone itself. It is therefore not unreasonable to assume that their interests involve keeping us, the users, happy, or at least placated, lest we all up and start some other site(-s) and they throw however much money and time down the drain.

Just noticed this official thread. I'm a moderator over at MMO-Champion, so have obviously worked with Boubouille. If he's our contact, then I can tell you that when things need done they will get done. Wild assumptions are bound to pop up, including worries about the past repeating with what happened at MTGNews. Drawing that sort of comparison is invalid because they aren't even comparable situations, anyway, but I can tell you that with Boubouille as a contact that things would get done which need done in very short order.
Personally it doesn't bother me if NSWF sections of the forums go, as I never felt MTGS should have been the place for those, anyway. Obviously there are those who would disagree with this sentiment, but in reality as long as MTGS remains about Magic: the Gathering news and discussion, that's what ultimately matters. I look forward to seeing what positive changes may come as details begin to solidify.
A revamp of the front page would come easily. When MMO-Champion was acquired, a face-lift was one of the first things to happen. All the resources MTGS currently lacks because of it all being based entirely on volunteers who can't really give more than their own precious time will become a non-issue. This also has the potential to attract more traffic and users from networking MTGS in with the rest of the Curse network (and with that said I would actually suggest creating a forum specifically for new Magic players to contain those inevitable threads/questions should all this go through).
Will Curse still allow the Sales/Auction area of the Market Street? Will they try to insert "fees" for doing the transactions on their fancy nice secure servers or for allowing it to happen?
Will Curse be able to do anything to stop rippers in the sale threads somehow? (There was a bunch of people who got ripped by one guy, for quite a large sum of cards in $ value). It REALLY sucks to see the people get ripped in those threads, because the sellers want the fee's added in, and most people would just rather send as a "gift" than pay more.
I am curious though, why would a PC game site like Curse (never heard of them or anyone mention them before) want to purchase/take over MTGS? Maybe a Mod/Admin or someone on Curse (or who frequents Curse) could go a little more in-depth into what exactly Curse is, and what it does for its user-base?
Are you sure you can get actual games using it?
I thought it was just an access face for a (very large) database full of game mods.
But yes, that's their program.
Yup. Curse is what is used to get/purchase Torchlight 2/the OG Torchlight. Torchlight is to Diablo 3 what Pathfinder was to D&D 3.5, to it in persepctive.

If you check Nai's post he mentions MS. Nothing expected to change there. Curse may have some resources to help us coordinate hitting rippers, but we aren't expecting it.
