My next set, the Greek-mythology-based Palouranos, will feature a white race of ant-people called the Myrmex (yes, inspired by the myth of the Myrmidons, for those who care). The thing is, it is awfully hard (read: impossible) to find art on ant-people on the net. That's why I'm turning to you, my dear Salvation artists. Here's a description of the myrmex, and some sample cards. Any effort (from style guides, to sketches, to final arts) would be appreciated.
Myrmex - The myrmex are a race of ant-people dwelling the great colony of Myrmidafos, in Chrysagros. They think as a whole, and, like ants, have little sense of individuality. The sense of community and the duty of helping each other are a great deal to them.
Sample cards:
Myrmex Worker - 3W
Creature - Insect Soldier
3/1
As long as you control three or more white creatures, creatures you control have first strike.
Myrmex Sergeant - W
Creature - Insect Soldier
1/1
Whenever a creature comes into play, Myrmex Sergeant gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
Myrmex Citizen - 1W
Creature - Insect Townsfolk
2/2
Infuse - When Myrmex Citizen comes into play, you may search your library for a white creature card with converted mana cost 1 or less, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you do, shuffle your library. (This card is infused if you spent only white mana to play it.)
Myrmex Bodyguard - W
Creature - Insect Cleric
0/2
Whenever you play a white spell, you may prevent all damage a source of your choice would deal this turn.
Myrmex Colony
Land
Myrmex Colony comes into play tapped.
T: Add W to your mana pool.
Sacrifice Myrmex Colony: Add W to your mana pool.
Thanks QuietArtist! I have actually seen your artwork on the Generations thread, and I thought it was really cool. It would be great if you could come up with something.
Wow, those look very good! I like how you made them centaur-like (especially since Centaurs are a major race both in Greek mythology and in this block). I'd like to use this sketch (and any you come up with, for that matter :D) on the set's website, when I put it online, can I? Of course, I'd give you proper credit.
On the clothing issues, I'm not sure either... I guess they could use some clothing on their torso, especially soldiers.
Well, here is the card Myrmex Bodyguard as you will see on... um... imaginary booster packs.
BTW, I don't know if you did this on purpose, but the golden grass in the art really fits the name "Gilded Fields", which is how Chrysagros is known (actually "Chrysagros" comes from the Greek words "chrysafi", meaning "gold", and "agros", meaning field). That's just how I imagined it.
Since you mentioned it, I do have a particular card I'd really like to have art for. It's not a Myrmex card per se, but I think it would be great if it pictured Myrmex on its art; probably a scene where lots of Myrmex are gathering to fight invaders; or perhaps to build a colony. It would be great if you had the time to do so. Anyway, here's the card (one of the very best cards in the set, no less):
Communal Cause - WWW
Enchantment (Rare)
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may search your library for a white creature card with converted mana cost 1 or less and put it into play. If you do, shuffle your library.
It looks very cool, probably the best sketch I have seen you do this far! It captures well the flavor of the card, and the colony looks positively great!
looks great so far! Can't wait to see the final version.
BTW, seeing this artwork, I'd say there will DEFINIETLY be flying myrmex in the second set in the block.
The new version looks nice, but I guess I prefer the other one. The "holes" in the ant homes make the look a lot cooler IMO... is there a problem if I keep using the older version? If there is, I'll change it, no problem.
Yeah, the new one is definitely the best.
To answer your question, yeah, I'm already setting up the website (check out the ones in my sig). It will feature your pictures on the cards and your myrmex sketches, if that's okay. I'll keep you informed.
I think you could tone down the saturation of the land art a bit, fits with the card box better too. Just a suggestion though, haven't tried it myself.

Anyway, if anyone could take the time and draw some colored art, used QA's sketches as a standard, it would be greatly appreciated as well.
