Restarted after a monthlong absense is the MTGSalvation Monthly Art Contest. If planesjaywalker comes back and wants to retake over the contest, that would be awesome, but for now lets get to the actual contest. Since last month was halloween and we missed out on that fun theme contest, this months theme will be Halloweenyish.
Wizards has decided to reprint none other than Juzam Djinn from the Arabian Nights set in 10th edition. (In my world, anything can happen) As an artist your job is to create a new piece of art for this spectacular rerelease of one of Magic's best and most notorious creatures ever printed.
Juzam Djinn- 2BB
Creature- Djinn
At the beginning of your upkeep Juzam Djinn deals 1 damage to you.

Rules:
- Participants of this contest will submit a piece of artwork based on the topic given.
- Judging for this month will be done entirely by public voting, which will start after the submission deadline.
- Entries are to be submitted as a .jpg or .png, and at least 600x450 pixels in size and finally as an ATTACHMENT. (That way it won't take forever to load this page)
- The deadline for this month is 11.59pm (EST) on Sunday, November 20th 2005. anything submitted after this time will be not be judged.
Well get to it! (if theres any questiosn just ask them here, i think i covered everything)
Edit- If one of the mods could sticky this that would be awesome.
Usually for artwork of this magnitude done by wizards, they like the artwork to resemble the same shape of the overall image. I'm going to assume that this isn't required, but definatly available. I'd hate to see the winner win just because it resembles Juzy in the same light it was orignaly in.

These two statements confuse me.
1) You want the criterion to allow the contest piece to look like the original one
2) but you don't want it to win?

I just want clarified that it doesn't HAVE to look like the original. If ten people send in six new peices of art, and four send in ones that look like the original, and those four get a higher vote (theoretically) then the rest, I'd hate it to be because of 'classicness' (relating to the old art work).
Well, then, don't vote for the ones that look like the classic work. It's not fair of you to say that those who think that something should win for referencing the classic work shouldn't vote that way.

I know. I just want to make sure that it's OK to send in artwork like that. And vice versa and not having to worry abought 'fovorism'.
Yeah, you can create an artwork thaat pays alot of homage to the orginal or you can go off and so something original. Its all up to you. Everyone will vote for the best art period, whichever one appeals to them.
so, just to clarify, is this personally "drawn" art, or just finding suitable images online? ("drawn" since some people may want to make it on the computer I guess)

Yes, you have to draw/paint/render it yourself. It would be too easy any other way.

er, considering you avatar, you are now a legend of Chinese literature.. which maybe even better...Go Confusius!
Yep, for original work. A lot of people have used pre-existing images in a sort of collage effect in the past, though. As long as you put it all together yourself.
No they haven't. NONE of the previous images in the contest has EVER been a collage of any sort. As far as I can tell, each and every one has been an original work.

Evidently you weren't paying attention when Unluckyman's Paradise was the subject of August's challenge. About three or four entries just chopped a photo of Fujita straight into their entry, one of which was just a photographic collage.

True, but consider:
1) Fujita's picture had to be the image that was supposed to be land -- that was part of the challenge
2) It was regarded as the worst month

Either way... nice topic to kick off the returned art contest.
