Okay, I can do that. I just want a response, I want to know what the argument is from the computer-people. Come on! Let's end this! I'm sick of it, and I want to know what you have to say for yourselves!
Alright. Whatever. I'm a terrible person, an ignorant person, I know nothing, think what you want.
If we're gonna make personal attacks, then I will say exactly what I mean. I tried not to offend anyone, but you went out of your way to get offended anyway.
Calm down. your issue was with my response, so focus here and ignore the rest. There was no personal attack, I was merely addressing your statement. It is much clearer to me that perhaps your initial choice of words is what's at issue here, making this simply a bit of miscommunication. I have no problem with someone who prefers one medium over another. That's personal preference and everyone is entitled. What bothered me was reference to respect.
To explain my understanding of respect, I hold little respect for those that are unethical and dishonest. There should be no issue of respect here unless you truly feel that doing CG art is unethical or dihonest, which is very different from not liking it.

When you create art on your computer, do you use your hands? Do you hold a pen, and draw on paper?
To answer your questions... Yes, I do use my hands. I use a trackball, eyeballing everything I do manually. Do I hold a pen? Actually, I do have a mouse-pen that works for freehand drawing on the computer. I never realized that paper was a prerequisit for drawing.

On a computer, what is it? Entering code? Copy and paste? Click and drag? Do you DRAW IT? Or do you CLICK IT? Do you SKETCH IT? Or do you ENTER IT?.
Is it entering code? No, nor do I copy and paste. Do I click on things? Yes, but not in the manner you are implying. Draging is more accurate, but not in the sense of cutting and pasting something. It's more like moving a physical medium like clay. Do I sketch it? Before I begin some works, I do infact sketch out a rough idea of what I want to accomplish, yes on paper with a pen/pencil. Do I enter anything? There are few things entered, but not in the manner you imply.

I'm an artist. Am I good? No. I'm bad. I'm crap. The amount of time art takes is not the deciding factor in how much skill it takes. I can dig a hole for hours, does it take skill? No. I'm not ignorant. I'm opinionated. I know what you do, and I think it isn't skillfull. Your stuff is fromula. It isn't art, it's math. It's programming.
Do I use a program? Yes - several, actually.
The flaw in your argument is that all art is based on mathematics, be it done in pencil, clay or on computer. Think of this medium more like sculpting in virtual 3d, at least the way I do it. Nothing I do is programming. It takes the same stuff that it takes when I sketch in pencil, except there are no eraser marks.

So fine. Call me what you will. I'm gonna say what I mean. You get on my nerves. Did you have to pick a fight? No. I'm gonna say: "Your medium sucks monkey-ass." Do you have an argument to prove me wrong? And don't just say "'Cuz you're ignorant." That's just avoiding the issue. EXPLAIN TO ME WHY YOUR MEDIUM IS VIABLE. If you can make a good case, I'll admit that I was wrong, and I'll apologize. And I'll mean it.
Because I'm not ignorant.
Ignorant means a lack of understanding. You seem to lack an understanding of what it is that, talking for myself, I do when creating a work. I think you are interpreting ignorant to mean stupid, which I never implied.
Nowhere did I ever state that anyone had to apporve of my work or the medium I choose. I've responded to your questions in hopes of enlightnening you to this medium. If you don't think my medium is viable as art, you're entitled to that opinion, but there's nothing to justify.

If I may calmly add some of my own insight to the above flame-war...
Now, as a Time Arts major at NIU, I have learned a thing or two about Art. I have taken two Art History classes, two drawing classes, 2-D design, and 3-D design.
Now, If I had a scanner I would have drawn my entry freehand first before coloring it in Photoshop. It might have been better if I at least had a tablet because trying to draw with a mouse sucks. The work I submitted is far from being one of my best works. I mean, I only spent about a half-hour on it. But nevertheless, I don't think its intrinsically bad just because I drew it in Photoshop. Photoshop is every bit as much a medium as Oil Paint, Acryllic, Copper Wire, or Cow Excrement.
Just because you don't make something with your hands doesn't mean it isn't art. Some Artists, like a few of the Surrealists, went out of their way to avoid using their hands. For example, one Surrealist put a pencil into a power drill and drew with that. Mechanical devices are often used as a conduit between inspiration and creation. What do you think a paint brush is?
Now, I have a little challenge for anybody who wants to declare that any particular medium is not art:
Tell us what you think art is.
Anybody can talk at length about what isn't art, but few people can give a good explanation of what is art and why.
Oh by the way, if you don't like Charcoal, maybe you should check out some of Rembrandt's art. If you want to dispute the artistic validity of the Old Masters, I feel sorry for you.
