Yeah, it's time to get things running a bit in this part of the forums, so anyway, starting from next month we'll be having monthly art contests.
Here's how the contest will go: At the start of a month I'll be giving a (Magic-related) topic or theme, like illustrating for a card randomly picked from the Card/Set Ideas board, for example. Participants may submit their entries within the next 15 days. After that there'll be a poll to determine the winner.
Past winners:
May: Scuirimancer
June: Grimmshaw
July: ThePants
November: El Garbo
Update 1 30/4/2005: The first contest is up. Please post only entries in that thread, and questions and miscellaneous chat related to the contest in this thread.
Maybe a booster pack? It could be something really small, just only if people outside America can actually get it.
Considering that I live outside of US as well, that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe not booster packs, I could dig my card box for something as a prize. How does 15 Fallen Angels sound?

Although you want us to be as original as possible, I find that just giving us a name to make a whole race upon is pretty hard. Even the proper Magic artists get more. How to pronounce the name would be nice even.
I suppose it would be pronounced 'no-zik'. I just randomly took a name and searched it on Google. It only gets chosen if there are 0 matches. So 'Lodak' didn't pass the test.
As for more info on the knozyks... I did mention that they were black/green. Maybe you should start from there?
moogie - Keep it up, can't wait to see entries coming in
DarkZeal - Khairun is one of the settings in the '07-'08 block. The place might not be called 'Khairun' by then though, as it is one of the names that came up randomly during an R&D booze session
Just wondering if you can/will create a little sticky thread to put the last month's winning picture up, like they do with the monthly "you make the card contest." ??
Sounds like a good idea to me anyway.

That's a good idea. In fact there'll be an 'Art of the Month' tab in the front page coming up soon.
Can I send you my submission by e-mail? I'm having trouble attaching it and although I've asked Scuiri to post it for me, I was wondering if I could send it via e-mail aswell...
Sure, my e-mail's in my profile.
By the way, have you tried resizing your picture? There's a size limit to picture attachments which I can't remember.
Could you narrow down the "new format" July is supposed to be in for me? There are several posts near the end with different dimensions in them. Also, you don't want them made into cards, right? I've got a few ideas for possible arts but nowhere near the skill with computer it would take to fix them up like that... Thanks.

You don't have to follow the format strictly. It's good if you could submit something bigger than the cards dimensions to allow cropping. This time, the winning art will be made into a card.
Neato. One more random question - do you allow colaborations? Don't have plans for one at th moment, but it's always nice to know where the rules are. Just so you don't run into one full tilt in the dark and wound yourself badly, y'know...

I thought from the instructions that the finished product had to be in a card format, not just the artwork as part of the contest.

I don't think so. Not everyone has Photoshop or some sort of MTG Editor. Yes, if they're able to scan in a picture/draw a computer generated one, they should most likely, but excluding people due to computer programs is just kinda bad. I mean, look at the first artwork contest; he won by crayon or color pencil.

No problem. I misread PJ's quote. I thought it said to do the format where it actually says to fit the frame. Now how are those who can't do new layouts themselves supposed to ensure that their art will fit a particular frame when no dimensions have been provided?

Sure, though I'll have to come up with another prize for the other guy But please don't let that hinder you from collaborating with others.

Doh... my bad. I should've included the dimensions in the contest thread. Anyway, the picture should not be smaller than 400x560.
I will personally set you up the cardlayout if you are the winner.

The winner will be getting an autograph photo of me
OK really, the winning piece will be features in the front page, like the FCC winners, but that's all we have so far. Any suggestions?
