Well it is a new year and a new month and with it comes a new artwork contest! Last month we had some great pieces based on the work of custom cards with Bad Luck and El Garbo once more squaring off for the win. But this month we are going back to a more customary format, re-doing old art. But this time we have a little twist. Instead of being given an artwork description you will instead be given simply an old card and will go. Also instead of a creature we will be doing an abstract idea. So, are you ready to know what it is?
Stasis!
Yes the much hated combo-piece. Not that I want you to base your art off of the old one, because I do not, but here is the orginial:
Good times. From the starcitygames.com worst art thread:

And if you really wanted to stretch, you could say the little dunce cap dude is running out of space for his blue paint, which would represent you running out of blue mana because you just had to ruin the game for everybody else, didn't you?!
The relevance of the little blindfolded dog person is up for debate, but I think the little red circle thing is supposed to hide the fact that it is so obviously flipping you off. You know, because you suck. For playing Stasis."

Somebody from Starcity, that's over here, should sig that, just so the SCG Invasion of Other websites can commence.
Bad Luck gets props for actually quoteing that.
As for the card:
Yeah... Oh boy... This should be a good month. Best of luck everyone.
Here we go. I really enjoyed this month, there was plenty of room for interpretation.
I opted to go for a bit of a mixture between the old school 'abstract' stasis and the more familiar idea of something being in a state of stasis being basicaly immobilized.
There's an obvious homage to the original Fay Jones original (which, unlike many, I really like)... except in this case, the little painting dude has become a wizard, using his magical paintbrush to send a threatening sea serpent into a blissful state of stasis.
Wow. I should quit now - but I've already done some sketches, so...
I won't have this in for awhile, since I no longer have access to a scanner - I'll be getting a new one before the end of month.

Very nice El Garbo, I like the spin on the original.
However the serpant part of the picture I think is up for debate, as I think it might have been just fine with the figures in the boat!
ok..i am a lazy ass...but i am to lazy to redraw sumting i already did..because the stasis i had is mind is=a state of stability where all forces are equal
and here's my take(i erased the word temperance...gwahahahaha)

Cabalwannabe - You make a fair point, but I decided I didn't want it to be a purely abstract piece, like it would have been if the little painter and his blind dog friend were just merrily sailing the seas.
Is it required to draw a new pic? Im very bad at drawing, but I just want to join the contest, so I recolored/editet the pic. I hope it's okay.
I dunno. I like the pic though. I don't remember a rule specifically against it, but who knows? I will say that I'm not likely to vote for it, knowing that you didn't use your own art and that you probably didn't ask the artist.. not that I'm offended by that or particulary opposed to it Same with Kelvinikins, I'd rather see new art because I know that's a redo. That's just my opinion though. This should probably be addressed in the submission rules, most likely.
Also, the image needs to be larger, at least 630X460 Pixels.
So far.. I've drawn 3 separate pieces, and will probably do two more til I get it right. This one is hard.
@Mondu - again, a very strong submission.

I see no reason why you should not be allowed to. Unless anyone has any objections, go ahead.
Sellian, would it be possible for you to get a bigger scan of that? I'd like to have it at least 630 by 460 pixels, so it'll fit in the card frame.
No objections, by the way.

El Garbo- Just simply amazing. I'm almost guarenteed to vote for you.
Cabalwannabe - You make a fair point, but I decided I didn't want it to be a purely abstract piece, like it would have been if the little painter and his blind dog friend were just merrily sailing the seas.
My submission.
