I doubt you feel concern that all your fantasy concepts were stolen from European mythology. And anime/manga is a derivative of European cartooning/comics, just like American cartooning is copied from Europe...
And don't get me started on MTG stealing everything from D&D, which in turn stole it all from Tolkien! The fact is, as a culture we adopt what we chose and make it something completely our own.
/Rant off.
taking this to a new thread titled: Anime-does it belong in MTG art?
Yeah, Xander, you should probably card everyone if you're going to do anyone. It seems a little unfair for you to be benefitting someone else's submission. ThePants should do his own work.
Everyone's work again looks fantastic! Here's my submission for this month along with my initial sketch if anyone wants to see where the finished product started. I decided to not go the warrior route as I have in the past months just to try something a little different. I hope you all like it.

That's really not fair. Xander shouldn't be confined to what he/she wants to do simply because it would be 'unfair' in the eyes of others. It's his/her freedom to do what he/she wants. Although it does seem he/she does it alot to what could be the best picture thus far in most contest for the monthly art contest; it doesn't mean anything. He/she does it because he/she enjoys carding/likes doing it.
Example:
That'd be like telling last months winner that he/she can't join this month's contest, merely because they won last time. It doesn't make sense, and takes away that persons free will. Unless rules are made to stop constant winners from entering, it just doesn't make sense for that person to not be able to do what they want.
Not sure if the example makes alot of sense, but hopefully it gets my point across.

I definitely agree with bristol here. Xander, your carding is cool, but the problem is that it shows the artwork you chose in a different light than the others, one that may cause that artwork to recieve more votes.
It should probably be removed. Of course, after the contest is over, I've no qualm.

It's merely a mock-up. Anyone can do it. Especially since I made the card already, just paste your image overtop. If you want your Card made up, there are tons of Card Shops that will do it for you.
I wanted to see ThePants's entry in card form, so I made it.
As for recieveing more votes, why would I card ThePant's entry if I already have an entry, wouldn't that make me less likely to win?
This thread is not about winning a contest.
It's about chosing a topic and having everyone expressing their artist talent and unique style by making something about the chosen topic. Who cares who wins? They don't win prizes or anything.
Cabalwannabe makes good points. I am free to make what I want. And in any case, the Voting thread contains only the links to the art, not the cards. And I doubt anyone is foolish enough to vote for something because it is in card form. People will vote for the entry they like, no matter how it's dressed up. If you think otherwise, you are being naive.
the problem is that it shows the artwork you chose in a different light
Voters are supposed to vote based on art and art alone. That was mentioned in a voting thread a while back. Am I the only one who remembers these things?

This is so, so true. Just ask and in 24 hours you'll have a mock up most of the time.

That makes sense...

True.
ThePants: I think your bright neon green could be toned down a little. I liked the bright light at first, but now it just seems over the top. Either way it's very good.
Mysteryhunt: I like it. Though there's not alot of green in the picture,
I still like the elf. The pose is very good (loving the backhand action), though the pants look kind of strange. Yay for suspenders and sandles in art!
Mysteryhunt, more attention needs to be addressed towards foreshorting. This will help you angle the body in a more realistic gesture. The figure's body looks very uncomfortible. Maybe "push" his right (our left while looking at it) arm and leg forward. The figure is too short for the length of his arms and legs. An average human man is 7 and a half heads tall and two heads wide (from shoulder to shoulder). An arm minus the hands are two heads long. Its one head from chin to nipple height. Your coloring is great but perhaps give a more even attention towards a light source might help the overal form of the work.
Pants, The art looks good. Its cartoonish so I cannot challenge your choice of proportions. The color is solid and works well. I would like to see this work done with a more realistic figure. Good job.
bristol, solid color work. I think your lighting draws too much away from the figure. The figure's head is too large and at an odd angle for where it sits on the neck. The rest of the work is co-hesive and works well. Nice job.
Cool cards, everyone. There are some surprisingly good artists here. However, I think that the sketches are much better than the CGed versions overall xO
thanks for the constructive criticisn guys, It's extremely helpful to get someone else's point of view on a piece where objectivity is lost right from the get-go
cabalwannabe-now that you mention it, i didnt even relaize the overall lack of green in a green card! excellent point, i guess i got caught up in the 'regrowth in a lava field' concept that i forgot to keep things green.
keldonson-i think you and cabalwannabe both touched upon the forshortening in the characters right leg, and i wholeheartedly agree. I meant for it to pop out towards us more than it does and i'll go back in there and fix it up if I have time. The leg's lack of forshortening seems to throw off the proportions of the rest of the figure.
thanks you guys for taking the time to help me out, i really appreciate it!

I am not naive. I just underestimate humanity from time to time [damn you, news reports on stupidity]. Given anyone can get a card frame, it becomes a moot point, and I withdraw my comments. Heh.
Ah, now for something slightly more important - I just thought of the perfect setup for this contest earlier today, and I dunno when the deadline is. How much time do I have to work on this thing? Until 12 tonight, or tomorrow? I forgot the end date for submissions ...
which reminds me that I should start a different piece soon *glances at sig*. crap.

A great deadline.
I'll edit with the pic once I have it, but since I'm impatient, I'll probably put up the sketch first ...

Oh god, I drew it in backwards dimensions again. WHY?!?!? >< ... we'll see if I can get it to work.
See ... the elf is crazy, has mutated into a ... thing, and is rampaging through the peaceful forest. With happy flies.

Well, all i really have at this point is a badly done base sketch for one Idea and an even worse one for another, not really sure if I should continue.
The paper one's the bad one, the digital's the even worse.
Sadly, I have no submission this month. I have no models for clothing for a male elf, have mixed feelings in buying and modifying one, and making one from scratch would have taken me longer than a month. I suppose I could have used a female elf, but it wouldn't have been in keeping with the spirit of the topic. Good luck to everyone!
Cool pic mysteryhunt, but the right leg is wonky.

Well, I decided to finally enter the artwork contest, although mines not too good. Mostly just a quick sketch and some photoshoppery. Hope peole like it
Last day and Here's my entry. I kind of hate how my entry turned out, I rushed and BSed the clothing and most of the bg. >.< The proportions are just off, his head is too big and too far to our left.
This is my first time doing a non-oekaki peice entirely on the computer, and the first figure I've done on my tablet for a long time, so I guess problems are to be expected
Introducing... the incredebly gaudy RE Belt buckle!!!
I have the various steps in making this if anyone cares, I know some people like seeing the steps in art.

Someday, I want to be an artist for card games, or maybe RPG manuals. I know it's a tough road and a high goal, so tips are really appreciated.
