benniator, love it! i think you have till the end of the month to finish up your piece Keep up the good work! i love how the mtgs art community has been growing and flourishing!
wow... thanks guys
but the credit goes to Slaven K. Guiser too... he did an AMAZING job coloring it... its really all him... i just drew it haha
but thanks for the support anyway
The Good, the Bad, the Guay got me thinking about doing an art article and posting it.. I mean, if they could take such a sucky article.. ROFL..
Anyways so the topic is going to be along the lines "card art that does injustice to the flavor of the card" the idea being is that regardless of skill , the artist's main job is portraying the concept of the card to the player.
IMHO Squee, goblin nabob is a runner up. It's fine art, don't get me wrong.. but, this is SQUEE? Who is this newb in a red robe? Why does he have this regeneration ability? there is no way anyone understands where the happy go-lucky goblin from tempest and later in Invasion is this dude, unless they shell out 6 bucks for the book or something. >:p
Rayne and Slavan's pic.. now that's squee.. even has a funny explanation of how he keeps out of the graveyard (he gets caught in the ship's rigging, duh.)

Say, I was browsing some of the wonderful art in this contest, and I had an idea/request...
As some of you may know, I'm writing a synopsis of the Weatherlight Saga here (see links in my sig, the third one won Article of the Month), though the fifth and final article has been long delayed because it is a major undertaking and I'm too lazy to start. I was wondering, as this contest is coming to a close, if it might be possible for the next subject to be important scenes from the Invasion-Planeshift-Apocalypse arc. The best ones would be included in my article, which is, safe to say, highly anticipated (I get occasional messages and emails asking when it's coming), and will get the artists a lot of exposure.
Anyway, just a thought, sorry if it is out of line. But, btw, while I'm here... do those of you who have done Weatherlight crew members mind if I use the pics here in that same article? (this article is going to have crazy load time as it is...)
Well, it's not set in stone; we could do a VestDan's-article themed week. Why don't we do an informal poll? What would the artists rather see, Goblin month or storyline month? Keep in mind that if we do the storyline thing, we can do goblins the week after.
Goblin people could always draw Squee doing something Squeeish. Like, killing Ertai or firing the Weatherlight's rear cannon. And anti-Goblin people could draw him being tortured by Crovax. Win-win.
@El Garbo (and anyone else with a similar problem) - I know, let's just say, more than my fair share about the storyline, so if you'd like I could help come up with a scene to your tastes.
We could do storyline month first. I've been waiting awhile for goblin month, but as long as it's right after, I'd be fine with it.
We should do more themes involving such idea's and more:
Storyline Month
Art that makes you Cry Month
Made up Storyline Month
ect...
Rather than goblins or storyline, why dont you try a "Tribal" theme. That way, the gobo people get their way, but others can also try elves, birds and such

Goblin month seems too restrictive to me though. So if I had to pick, I'd go for storyline.
