Okay, using the info from the Polls, i constructed these 2 frames. I doubt you'll like them.
Still waiting for inspiration to strike. Posts the Pros and cons, what you like and don't like. But don't forget what is winning in each catagory over on the polls.
I like the first(left) frame A LOT! It's simple, sexy, and displays all the relative information very well. The only thing is that I think a border would be nicer around the edge.
The other just doesn't do it for me, the curving is annoying to the eye(no offense). In any case, wonderful job. I hope these get put into MSE.

I'm a fan of the version of frames that you used Kamahl and Phage for- it looks much more usable than the other version for one, and hearkens back to previous card layouts.
I'm a particularly big fan of the offset mana cost and card names- it opens up design space that was simply unavailable before (for card name length reasons and possibly mana cost restrictions. I feel the same way about getting the set symbol off the creature type line- opening up space in these two areas is always a good thing.
I think that the lack of color-specific texture is a problem with these frames. Magic has always had color-related texture for its frames, and this has been a defining feature thereof for a long time. Among other things, texture just makes the finished card look better, more professional, when it is in hand. I strongly suggest that you look into some sort of adaptation for your work thereupon.
The average lion is approximately 190 cm long and 60 cm wide = 11400 cm2 = 0.00000114 km2
Now, if we take that times a trillion we get 11,400,000 km2 of lion.
I'm not so sure about the first frame. The fact that objects in the frame make the text go wonky is something I'm not happy with. The second is a bit better but it lacks any texture. This, IMHO, is what makes both cardframes too futuristic. I'd like to see a version in which every color has the borders a bit different. If I'd have to pick one, I'd go with the second frame but with the suggestions I told. Maybe you can find a way to make it look both new-age and retro at the same time...
And oh yeah... ditch the vertical mana symbols. I like the soft curve butthose symbols are out of place.
I like these, but there's one problem in that you need big size art to make them.
One other thing, I prefer information on the left, but I guess it's up to preference.
Otherwise, everything looks smooth and nice.
I think these are maybe functionally useful, but aesthetically lacking. There's no detail or character to the card frame elements. I think you need to reintroduce texture and try and create edges that don't look so point & click. On the smaller ones, the 45 or 30 degree angle or whatever seems unbecoming to Magic. You may be on the right track with the larger ones though.
I approve of the ones on the left. I'd really like to get my hands on them to try applying textures to the boxes to maybe give it a little more life. Also, yeah, as other people have stated, the textbox is too small because the artbox is too big. Just a little nudging here and there will fix that though.
I agree with the people that said these frames might be better with a border, and more texture is a must.
The Kamahl/Phage/Cancel frame feels a bit disjointed, as nothing really connects the name box to the rest of the card. Maybe that's intentional, I don't know. Putting in the type symbol is a nice touch, the new place for the mana and expansion symbols work pretty well, but I'm not sure about the shape of the power/toughness box, or why it's black on a red card. Despite it's differences, it reminds me of the current card face, which I feel is never a good thing.
I doubt you'd be surprised to know that I like the Angel/Jaya frame a lot better - in some ways it's very close to what I intend to do with my own custom frame (sorry about constantly reminding you that I need help with that project, but I really want it to be revived). I would put the type symbol in there (you have the space for it), and there's not really a power/toughness box to speak of, but again, maybe that's intentional. The 'mana curve' is a bit too subtle though, and it makes the mana symbols stand out too much. Apart from that, thumbs up.
P.S. "Ping 3"? Really?!? Oh well, it's your call...
P.P.S. Nice Freudian slip in the thread title.
Thou shalt not have others of the same Legendary before me Thou shalt not frame images with the modern card face Thou shalt not change rules in vain Remember the Reserved List to keep it holy Honor thy Slivers and the symmetry of their abilities Thou shalt not kill mana burn Thou shalt not sacrifice depth for accessibility Thou shalt not steal combat damage from the stack Thou shalt tell a story through thy cards All must be one
I like the first Kamahl/Phage frame better than the new one. The text areas could use some working, but it is nicer without any border IMHO. This last version still feels too much like the regular one.

I like the left Kamahl better than the right one and I dislike the Angel. One little nitpick on the left Kamahl though: the text box is still too small, cards with more complicated and longer effects will be cramped. The right Kamaghl is nice too but the silver bordering really throws me off, it's almost like saying he's an artifact. Also, I really dislike the vertical P/T.

Holy... <3
I absolutely looooove the little blade thinger that holds the mana cost.
<EDIT> — On the Kamahl/Phage thing on the right side, of course. The P/T blade could cause issues, though...
btw, FKih, might it be possible to share your versions of those little type icons? I know I had some of my own around here someplace but I seem to have lost them.
Ah, now this second attempt is a bit better, but I have to agree with the fact that the Angel frame is... Meh. I'm not really liking the right Kamahl frame, the left one is a tad better but it still doesn't yell MtG to me.
The new *old* frames look wonky too. To me it's like they're going back to oldskool frames, in that there's more border and coloring than that there is art. The frame has it's potentials, though...

What problems could it cause? Oh and no prob, you get the nice new FS font [only has the FS symbols in it w/ the 'real' planeswalker symbol from MTGO] Might as well stick in that thread of yours.
Okay, so no Vert. P/T and metal thingy = confusing? it's only a small piece...:(
And bigger text box. Okay.
No words about the other frame? The mortify and ghostfire one?
I liked those other frames (mortify/ghostflame)--they hearkened back to the older original frames a little. But of the frames I've seen, I like the originals on the OP on the left (Phage, Kamahl) better.
The Ghostfire/Mortify frames look good, imho, it's just when you try to put a textbox on it that it gets really clunky. There's a lot of space that you use for borders that is normally open, which makes the whole thing feel cramped. Also, the textures on the blue one—the darker, textile blue border vs the watery background in particular—kinda clash. It's not as noticable on the Hyppie, but they still look... just a touch off.
Oh; and thanks a zillion for the font! ^^ I'll add it to the PSD links right away.
The second frame in the first post (Angel of Salvation and Jaya) would be an amazing extended art frame. However, for a "normal" version of the frame, I would suggest two minor alterations.
1) Get rid of the transparency. This enables you to apply a texture to the frame (instead of just a colour) without it clashing with the artwork. Maybe as an example redo Jaya with that texture used in the two Kamahl frames in your second post?
2) Extend the text box all the way to the edges of the card. The attached image (hopefully) shows how I feel this should be done. Maybe even possibly flatten the type box? (extensions shown in red. Excuse my shoddy Paint skills)

Also on the frame that GD is talking about, nix the little corner thingers. They are ugly. Not to be mean or anything, but they look seriously out of place. It would be much better to just have the elements bleed to the edge of the card.

Full frame art and transparent text boxes are two things that both sound like they would be good, but don't really look that appealing, imao.
I was fiddling around with the Salvation Angel frame from the first post and I found a lot of little changes that make it look better.
Remove the transparencies.
Add a partial black border using the transparent curve behind the mana cost on the right side as a guide.
Change the orientation of the mana cost.
Make the text box larger.
Make the top and bottom panels bigger in order to push the card name and artist info a little bit further from the edge of the card.
Make the card type line into a straight rectangular box and extend it to the edges.
For the angular frame with Kamahl/Phage/Cancel in the first post, adding a black border and increasing the size of the text box would probably also help a lot.
On the Logic Knot/Mortify frames, the inner border lining the artwork, all of them, top l/h corner is not pinched like the other 3 corners. Is this on purpose?
edit: Ahh, i thought it might be some sort of design principle. They look really good, btw.
