@Cephaloshock: Somehow Spongebob looks a bit thin... maybe it's just me, but I think the picture could use with a bit of horizontal-stretching.
Also, a bit darker and more consistent outlining would be nice - in some spots (particularly the legs) the image kind of blends together, which outlining could really help with.
Just wanted to bump this thread. Is there a way to get it stickied? It's be great if there was a better way for alterers to improve and help each other out. Just my humble opinion. ^^
Input on my first few alters? Anyone have suggestions for markers I can use instead of acrylics that will cover original art without having to erase? Thanks
I'm altering a Day of Judgment and I'm hoping for some feedback. I'm just a novice...:DI'm hoping that you can tell me how it looks, what I can improve on, how I should do the rest of the card, etc. Thanks!
The image isn't showing up at all for me. Try attatching it directly to the post. Edit your post, then click "go advanced". From there, the top border of the text box should have a little paperclip. Click that and upload the picture, then everyone will be able to click it and view it full-size.

Your picture is at an angle so there is foreshortening (left side is closer, right further away). From what I can see the art extension in the main box is ok - hard to gauge how seamless it is or isn't. Not sure what you are doing with the text box.
@Pet Snake - Harrow: I like the hedron and it is well placed to fit the composition, leading the eye into the picture. The colours are good but the texture could be improved. Maybe try adding texture using an old, worn brush with most of the paint wiped off to do some drybrushing?
Also, the vines seem to be placed at random. Look at how the original art uses the vines to create a direction and movement in the work and build on that. Also try adding thin paint a layer at a time to avoid things being too blobby.
@Mobo - Island: Personally I quite like painted alters to look painted, so the style I can get behind. I would use a toothpick to gently erase paint from the name bar at the top of the card and from the upper part of the text box with the mana symbol. I think that would draw more attention to the wave deliberately going over the lines.
What paint are you using for this, by the way? It looks a bit like watercolour in places.
So here's my effort:
It's an overall amazing alter. My only suggestion would be to get your strokes in the land and volcano thing to match the kind of strokes in the sky, so that the whole thing looks like Van Gogh.
Ayamie - I think you did a good job matching the green and making it varied between shades. I'd love to see the final product once you complete the smaller plants along the path.
Lyricat - I really like the Gisela, Blade of Goldnight one best. The colors all match and it's an energetic but not cluttered piece. The Gemhide Sliver could use more to punch up the piece.
This is my second attempt at altered art and I would love any critiques! I apologize for the fuzzy picture, it was the best shot I could get >.<
I have a few questions as well:
1) When I scrape the ink off, I'm using an exacto knife. If done right, is it supposed to leave a vaguely rough texture behind? I'd like to make it smoother, if possible.
2) Aside from thinning the paint more, is there a way to make the end product smoother? It was commented to me that it felt rougher where the paint was than it should.
3) Can anyone link me to a good tutorial/video for carbon copying on cards? I feel like it's easy, but I haven't found something with a step-by-step process, and I don't want to do something silly when trying it.
Thanks in advance for any input!

A little bit darker on the paint (like, so you can't see through it), and a nice thin outline with a marker or pen would make it pop out (imho).

has anyone thought about doing an altered painted card that is also turned into a 3d card?that would be a cool spin...
i really enjoy the van gogh influence on the armageddon piece!
i'm sure you guys know this, but q-tips seem quite useful for cleaning up the edges, if you do it while the layer your correcting is still wet...

I recently started doing alters myself, and was wondering if I could get some feedback on a couple of my recent alters.
