Hey guys. My name is Josu Hernaiz. I am an Illustrator who is a recently breaking into the industry. Since always i have enjoyed Magic the Gathering so working whit them would be my dreamjob since quite a long time.
Anyway, i'm triying to build a portfolio focused to mtg so if you guys could take a look and tell me what do you think i'm lacking or what could improve that would be great.
Also! if you know where i can find artist briefs for existing cards so i can rede them would be awesome
Great stuff. I know several of the Magic Arcana articles on Daily MTG touch on the art descriptions for cards. It's a little challenging to find but most of the images in this search will lead you to a few. Good luck!
//EDIT: Also here's a PAX Panel the WotC Art Directors held a few years ago regarding submitting artwork to their various brands & the fantasy art industry as a whole. LOTS of great info in it.
Definitely some great work here, on the first image you uploaded here though, I feel like it needs some more definition/contrast, it feels a bit too muddy to me. Maybe some highlights on his face, clothing, some more vivid color to highlight to make the piece really pop.
That second piece, amazing contrast, texture, etc.
Overall, I like your work, but I feel like some of it could use more contrast/vivid coloring. Feels like a lot has been desaturated, For example on the Banner-holder; A little bit of color on the clothes, and some color in the background would do a lot to make the piece visually pop. Maybe a cool blue touch on the skirt, and some warm light-yellows and browns in the background.
Overall, I very much like your work.

Overall, I think you've got a great portfolio going here. My only critique is that I feel the second image could use a little more contrast and/or bounce lighting from the electrical spark, but like I said, these are really great. Keep it up!
For the first piece, his right hand looks really awkward. I'd suggest repositioning it to look more natural to the curve of the arm. Aside from that, these are all professional quality pieces. Well done.
These are all top quality works, and I can easily see these being on Magic cards. You should send WotC a message and let them know of your portofolio/blog etc...
