I sent some cards out in the mail for the first time in early March. I sent cards to 2 different artists, and asked each of them by email beforehand to make sure it would be ok (they both said yes - just include a SASE).
I received my cards back from the one artist within 2 weeks. I am still waiting for my other cards to return. This is not meant as a complaint, I understand the artists are all very busy, but I am wondering what my expectations for a timeframe should be?
Waiting months rather than weeks is more likely. Some artists are generally faster (like Terese Nielsen) while other can take over a year. Never send cards you actually need.
I can't stress this enough. I did this a MANY years back, and well... I'm out 3 BB Sol Ring, 1 Foil City of Brass, and 2 AN City of Brass. I don't blame Tedin for this, I blame myself as I could have just not sent those cards all at once to gauge timeframes. If you want some big cards signed, your best bet would be to present them to the artist at a Con or MTG tourney that they attend. You could also send a VERY polite nudge/reminder that you sent them cards, but that has the potential to make the artist a bit upset (since you did email them beforehand).
I got some big stuff signed back in the day via mail but it was never part of the first wave of cards I'd send. In those instances my first group of somewhat random cards included a note asking about prints from the artist & the possibility of paying extra to get priority mail shipping for the return trip of the big cards. Most of the time they're okay doing this but obviously make sure both parties are on the same page & understand how much you care for the bigger cards.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I sent two cards to each artist, so I am in no rush. I thought I may have been spoiled getting the first pair back so quickly.
I did consider emailing the artist to inquire, but I think it is too early for that. I'll probably reserve that option for somewhere around the 6 month mark, if it comes to that.
I once received a TTM success one year after I sent the cards... I think it's just a meter of time before you get your card back, if he told you by email that he would signed it for you!

Thank you.
