Well, 9 down, 21 more to go!

It was PAILS, not PALES, since "reportedly" (the homophone indicator) was next to the synonym for PALES rather than the synonym for buckets. But I marked it down anyways because it was close.

Dunno, the S+pion made some kind of sense to me ("spion" is a german word), so I just hoped to get a lucky shot here. My first guess "pioneer" is definitely wrong because of the "s" at the 3rd spot.

Remember that in a cryptic crossword, only part of the clue is wordplay. The other part of the clue must be an actual clue that relates to the answer.
