So since I don't know many Kevin Bacon movies I also don't know how to play "Six degrees of Kevin BAcon" unless the only movie I connect to is X Men: First class.
so a game me and my friends like to play (or rather I like to play and they tolerate until they're too drunk to care) is Six degrees of anyone we want. IRL you'd have two different people think of two different actors. Then, everyone tries to figure out the shortest route between the two actors using movies.
(I know it seems silly to explain that, but some people don't know how to play and it's important to get the rules down.)
So for thread based play we need a way to not only prevent cheating, but we need a scoring mechanism as well. It also needs to be self-sustaining so that one player/host is not always in charge (cuz let's face it, I can't do this all day every day).
Here's what I suggest:
There will be a host and everyone else is considered a player.
The host's job is to choose two actors.
The host chains the actors together separately from this thread using movies and other actors and actresses.
The host then posts the two actors in thread AND the number in the chain connecting them up to 6.
The host may make the chain as long or short as the want (up to 6) even if the chain COULD be shorter.
The players will then post ONE actor and movie as a guess for one link in the chain.
A player scores 1 point for naming an actor in the chain. They score an additional 1 point for naming a movie in the chain.
Once the chain is completed the player with the most points for that round becomes the new host and the cycle begins again.
Now you can keep track of the standings in two ways (one or both is fine with me, suggestions are welcomed.) 1: keep track of individual points within a round as a means to show "even though this player didn't win the overall, they contributed a lot toward solving the chain" and 2: keep track of overall wins. (4 points for winning, 3 for 2nd 2 for 3rd and everyone else gets 1 if they got a point at all during the chain OR just 1 point for a win and no points for anyone else. I prefer the latter as it's less convoluted.)
So if you're confused here's an example:
Actors Morgan Freeman and Morgan Freeman in a chain of 5.
1. Morgan Freeman was in DARK KNIGHT with __________
2. who was in __ with __
3. who was in __ with __
4. who was in __ with __
5. who was in EYEWITNESS with Morgan Freeman
Player guesses Heath Ledger and Dark Knight
Player2 guesses Dan Akroyd and Driving Miss Daisy
Player3 guesses Matt Damon and Invictus
Player4 guesses Christopher Plummer and Eyewitness
Once the Host has a chance back in the board would look like this.
1. Morgan Freeman was in DARK KNIGHT with __________
2. who was in __ with __
3. who was in __ with __
4. who was in __ with __
5. who was in EYEWITNESS with Morgan Freeman
player: 1 pt
Player4: 1 pt
Guesses continue (each player should only guess once per round.)
You may guess any movie and any actor even if Morgan freeman wasn't in it, but obviously you have a better chance of getting points if you name a movie the actor you guess was in with one of the targets.
Morgan Freeman
1. Was in (Dark Knight) with (Christian Bale)
2. who was in The Prestige with Hugh Jackman
3. who was in X-Men First Class with Olvier Platt 4. who was in Working Girl with Sigourney Weaver 5. who was in Eyewitness with Morgan Freeman
9 points total.
If there's a tie then the first person to have gotten the most points that round will host.
If a player wins a round he may opt out of hosting (it would go by points who gets to host next)
If the chains are too long/difficult to manage then a chain limit can be decided upon.
Thoughts?
Round 1:
Patrick Swayze to Whoopie Goldberg in a chain of 3. (small just to test the waters and get the ball rolling)
1. Patrick Swayze was in __ with __
2. who was in __ with __
3. who was in __ with Whoopie Goldberg5 points available this round.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
