(I'm going to assume you know the word - so maybe there should be a scoring-system alteration in order. Such as number of points being based solely on how many letters are left, so that you don't have to keep guessing individual letters before solving the puzzle in order to maximize points.)
Yes, that's the correct answer. I think that even if guessing the correct answer was equal to the number of remaining letters, it would be fair. (Solving the puzzle if you know the answer is implicitly the same as simply guessing every letter in the puzzle one-by-one, except faster.)
So I see that everybody agrees (including me) that the points system could use some work.
Here are the suggestions I've seen:
-No points (but people like a little friendly competition! :D)
-Points based solely on letters (I like this idea a lot)
And for the "it":
-8 points?
So I'll put these together before editing and put it up for discussion:
For the guesser: 1 point per letter, and if you guess the word, you get the remaining letters.
For the "it": 8 points
Additionally, it seems excessive to have 8 guesses, so what do you think about having 7 instead?
And about minimum letters, I think at least 5 is a good number.
I like TheDarkener's suggestion. Sounds very tame and controllable, rather than giving people insane amounts of points.
I'll go update the OP, though let's just keep going based on the current scores.
So, a recap:
-7 wrong guesses allowed
-5 points if you "hang" them
-awarded points equal to remaining blanks
-minimum of 5 letters
Is this right?
@Wessel: nice.
