Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, the wisdom to know the difference, and a ****ing chainsaw.
ok, well I guess I'm unvoteing too.
Also, I'm for sure against that particular claim b/c we really dont know how it's gonna help, as has already been said. Not much else to say for now, though.
Sorry for being out for a couple days guys. I had quite a bit to do.
Discussion seems like a good idea, but, as we know, getting a useful discussion going day 1 is rather difficult. I'm completely blanking on any remotely useful discussion topic right now, so if any one has any serious ideas, I'm sure the rest of us would appreciate you sharing them.
As for the vote-for-grimclaw bandwagon, seems reasonable to me seeing as he indeed was on about 2.5 hours ago and has yet to post on the thread. However, due to lack of real information, I decline to vote at this time.
Making sure you guys still know I'm here. Also, I'm keeping my vote on sgdre, might change my mind later if someone presents a compelling argument.
Sorry, forgot about the no editing rule, hopefully it doesn't matter because no one posted in between the original and the new one (~1 min), just used to not double posting.

Zyphon, Have a reason to keep your vote on after we've generally abandoned the random voting and your original reasoning was "last to confirm"?
Wow, that sentence reads horribly, but I don't feel like figuring out a way to remedy it.
I didn't post a resaon because its hard to explain. At first the vote was random, but now I just have this deep, gut feeling that sgdre mafia. It might be how he seems to explain himself so much, as though trying to ward away nonexistant (at that point) suspicion, or it just might be how much he seems to post things that don't necessarily contribute to the thread. Both, I have found, are tells of the mafia, though sometimes they can be just things a bad, or atleast abnormal, player does. This hunch has led me right before, so I'm employing it now, whether right or not. There is also I "standard" mafia reply to an accusation like this, which I'll be looking for.
None of this is meant to offend sgdre; I haven't played mafia or observed him long enough to know a bad player when I see one, and I may be overanalyzing these cues.
Either way, this is just the convoluted reasoning behind me not unvoting
Zyphon, as many in this game can atest, I'm horrible for latching onto weak tells early and hanging onto them far too long. That said, I think you're doing so even earlier than I would, not that I fault you for such. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't still random.

Can I ask that you please rescind that policy? This early into day 1, it's hard to get posts (which can contain tells) under the best of circumstances, but now if everyone is afraid of being modkilled when they post, I'm afraid the conversation may dry up completely. Especially since I don't think I saw a single post that I wouldn't consider relevant to the game, everything is either a vote, or a response/ question of someone (from a cursory scan).
Well, if people want to avoid spam, they can always be sure to either vote or unvote in their post. Then Xim can't say it isn't relevant, even if it's in the middle of twelve lines of the description of the anatomy of a bumblebee.:)
I think we're moving along the right track, for the moment, albeit rather slowly. I'm quite happy with pressure on both Grim and sgdre. Let's see where this takes us, eh?
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
No need to start a band wagon so early for no reason.

I voted you, Gimclaw, because I wanted to get the day moving. Avoiding the thread, as you seemed to be doing, is a perfectly valid reason to vote someone, and a quick runup of votes is a great way to get someone's attention.
In any case, we obviously do need a bandwagon so early, and I'm satisfied to start one on a player who has exhibited a minor scum tell this early in the game. (Note, please, that I say minor. I don't want or need to hear the argument that townies lurk, too, because I already know it.)
Anyone have any info they're willing to give up that might progress the town's agenda? How about a Cunning Plan? If not, it's time for a bandwagon. And if people don't have a better target than Grim, then let's go!

I do think that in his only post Krashbot has managed to excuse himself for lurking, ask other people to come up with something to talk about, and approve a wagon on Grimclaw without voting himself. A tri-fecta of scumminess even.

Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
So CP, I both agree and disagree with you. Obviously we need to all vote for someone today on weak evidence. but if we start doing it too quickly we'll get way too many claims out day one. This always happens on scum (where d1 is a bandwagon blitz). I don't think that failure to post is enough to start stringing someone up yet. (Though it is worth remembering.)
That said, I agree with Axel, Krash's post doesn't look that good, and I do want to hear more from him. Vote Krashbot (some numbers). (Please note, this is not hypocrisy. I fully support pressure votes whenever, I just think that trying to get a claim/lynch this early is bad.)

*Krashbot101 rereads his first post*
I suppose that's fair, and after rereading that post a prod was definitely in order. However, here are some explanations:
1. Excuse myself from lurking: obvious reasons, I don't think this needs any explanation.
2. Wanting other people to come up with conversation: I am a relatively inexperience mafia player (this is my first game on the boards, I've played irl and on IRC a few times though). This leads to not knowing what to talk about and at the same time wanting to get some sort of conversation going.
3. Supporting Grim bandwagon and declining to vote: At the time, the pressure to get Grim to post seemed like a good idea (and apparently it did to other people too). However, there are several reasons I didn't vote.
First, two people had already voted for him which, as was said before, was already enough for a decent prod (this was the least of my reasons due to inexperience).
Second, there was nobody else I thought it was at all reasonable to vote for.
Third, it is not my style to vote for people when there is very little evidence that they are scum. This includes early, week tells (like semi-lurking early).
I am very much aware that this post probably makes me sound a lot like scum and may (unfortuneately) get me lynched today. However, I accept this and I would rather get lynched early a few games and keep with my style of play that try to change my style completely which would probably make me look even more like scum. Yes, I know that this is something scum would say, but seeing as this is my first game on the boards, I figure I'd put it out there so people might notice it and not lynch me for it later on (like in other mafias).
Also note: This is not a claim!!
Due to lack of reasonable tells and my style of play (see above) I would once again like to decline voting at this time. Don't worry, I will start voting as soon as I feel I have enough evidence to call someone scum.
Krashbot: Everyone needs to change their style of play as they gain experience. It would be the town's fault for ignoring improved play, or for using it as an excuse to lynch someone. You would do well to deliberately try to change your style of play as often as you find a reason to. Not only will it make you a better inherent player, but it will also make it harder for people to get a read on you.
Grim: 3 votes is often not enough for a prod. I wouldn't be unhappy going to 5 or 6. I think more people need to be willing to bandwagon and take risks. Cautious play on Day 1 is only beneficial if you WANT the game to stall. We have to recognize that until we get some significant information, we are basically lynching at random. (Okay, that's an exaggeration, but not a big one.)
I want to bandwagon to force a claim if no one responds my "fishing" (not that it was fishing, but that's a separate point). I thought that point was pretty clear. Bandwagons are a vital strategy of mafia, especially on Day 1. If you have a better target than yourself, point him out. Right now, I'm totally satisfied with my vote.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.

*nods*
These things are actually incredibly helpful to me due to my inexperience.
However, right now, I really don't now what I should be looking for or anything. Then again, that's part of the learning process of mafia, now isn't it. I think my main problem is not saying things that basically incriminate me.

Honestly, based simply on the posts, I would have to say I am probably a better target. Then again, capagning for people to vote for you is probably not the way to survive.
Okay, dude. You convinced me. Unvote, vote Krashbot. That post sounded very much like it was coming from the perspective of mafia. Plus the whole baiting people to vote you.

@ mod: I definately agree with the request to recind the threat of mod-kill in request to spam. Especially b/c you forbade asking for a clarification of what spam is...
@ krashbot: So far, all you have posted is a large lack of content. Stop talking about not knowing how to play and start playing (talking about other people). Oh, I almost forgot to FOS Krashbot. May become a vote soonish, we'll see.
Also, Im not really sure I agree with the whole rag on CP for the 3rd vote thing. There really isnt that much difference between the 2nd and 3rd vote. I think that people on this site would be better off if they were willing to play more aggressively.
Unvote. Not that I think krash is clear or anything, but I don't want to lynch anyone yet.
@ cp- I agree day 1 stalling sucks (perhaps more from an enjoying the game status than from a town status, but still). However, I think there's a happy medium to be found between 10 page day ones and 60 page day ones. I'd rather get some more info out there than out our power roles unnecessarily (because every time we force a claim there's a risk).
@ sgdre- if you were referring to me, I'm not opposed to cp having placed the third vote at all, I disagree with his reasoning, and his day 1 philosophy, but don't suspect him for such.
I am going to be gone to Sunday. Just leting everyone know.

FOS sgdre
Some people may call it bandwagoning, I say w/e, I vote with my gut. And I still have my eye on you, sgdre, you're just fortunate enough to have someone who acts even more like mafia than you
Axel, not particularily. I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not moving towards a lynch yet. My vote was to get Krash talking. He's talked. I want him to continue, but don't think my vote needs to be there at this point. I don't think we're close to enough info to decide anything for certain.
Well this conversation is definately interesting, and has me eyeing a few players, but as of yet, I have no inclanation to vote any of them.
Also, @Xim: tregit unvoted in post #78 (he also had changed his vote at some point prior to that), so he shouldn't be still voting for swinkee in the vote count, as far as I know.
Right now, I'm looking at Treigit and Krash. Treigit pulled his vote when it reached 3 (far from a lynching). This could be a classic mafia cover up in the beginning or could just be cautious play...hmmm...
I am begining to fear for the life of this game.
@Ximbad, I doubt, due to forum rules, that anyone would intentionally spam the thread enough to require a mod-kill, as they would have much harsher actions taken upon them by the mods of MTGS. Also, placing the vote counts in binary, while cute, is slightly detrimental to the game. It may, even if unintentially, cause players confusion, and they would be afraid to ask a proper, decimal, vote count due to them thinking you may view it as spam. In the spirit of fair and equal play, I would ask you to fix this.
T'git is kind of irking my scum-dar a bit, but not enough for a vote. His unvote is seeming cautious play at a time when caution is not really needed.

You know, this isn't going to look good, but I am going to (unvote swinkee if necessary) vote Krashbot. Now I am pushing for a claim/lynch. I still don't think it's good to do this early in a game, but this particular game seems in danger unless we do something drastic to get the conversation going, and he's definetly the most suspicious of the players.
It's not so much his first post, as the two that followed that seem scummy to me. I unvoted in hopes of having a longer discussion, and seeing how he reacts when the pressure is off.
Just a note, my general guideline for extreme lurkiness is having less posts than the mod, and every single one of us falls into that category (I think).
I agree with the sentiment in the above post. The activity in this thread has been quite low (myself included). 6 posts in a day is super weak.
For some content, I am going to VOTE NavyJoe. So far his posts consist of early game nonsense (but no random vote!!!), a lurker vote, and his last post that reeks to me of "FOS everyone." Also, the 2 ppl he FOS's are ppl already under suspicion.

@cp: That wasn't so much an OMGUS vote as it was an "I think you're the person who seems most scummy and isn't me." If you read through Triegit's posts and look at the things I mentioned in my last post, he is by far the scummiest person here other than me.
As for claiming, I'm willing to claim if that's what people want, but as was already stated about 15 jaggillion times, claiming this early isn't always a good idea. Based on this, I'll hold off on a claim until we get a couple more people asking for it.
Incase you haven't noticed, my reaction was to try to stop incriminating myself by not posting and looking for things that make other people seem scummy.
I noticed. It's very scummy to only post when you're in trouble and need to get out of it. Your quick response shows that you've been following the thread but only posting when you think you have too.
I get your reasoning for this, but it still seems way too early for this,
I agree, as I said 2 days ago (top of the page) I don't like pushing for a lynch/ claim this early
especially when we still have something resembling a good discussion going.
15 posts in 48 hours is healthy? Look at the time stamps on any other games in this forum.
Honestly, it's very possible that you saw some scum-looking stuff from me and decided to just go for a lynch to try to get on to day 2.
No, I want to get content. People in this thread seem reluctant to discuss much of anything. I'm hoping that if we get a claim people will start to discuss whether they believe it and why. Then we'll start discussing whether or not you'd make a good lynch. (To say nothing of voteing histories.) From the point of your claim I expect at least 5-10 quality pages before the day ends. Granted, it would suck if you're a cop, and that is why I'd prefer to generate this content some other way (as I've said previously).
Your comment about how you wanted me to keep talking also points toward this, seeing as I had yet to say anything that didn't point to me being scum.
I'd seen how you react to pressure (poorly) and wanted to see what you do when it eases up (lurk).
Therefore, if I keep talking, you just get more and more evidence to pile up and you can lynch someone that you want out.
If I were scum, I'd want a player I'm more concerned with out of the game. I'm going after you because I think we need a wagon to spark discussion (Yes, CP you are right this time.), and you're obviously the best canidate.
So, I seem to have found a good reason for this...Vote Treigit
That's the number of posts. They are low --> this is bad.
I think that the pressure on Krashbot101 is good atm, there is slightly more to go on against him then there is many other times Day 1. I'll support the pressure, but not a lynch or claim atm.

Right now I don't have much that isn't already out there. I am suspicious of Krashbot because of his heavy use of the n00b card to start the day, followed by some rather questionable comments and a rather poor case against Treigit, and suspicious of Treigit because of some of his plays on and off the wagon. I can't really feel comfortable voting for either one at the moment (although I'm leaning heavily towards Krashbot).
I also think the early pressure on Grimclaw was a little more than was neccessary. Two votes is enough to get his attention, and mor should only be put on after continued inactivity.
I'm really sorry I haven't been posting. I guess I've missed a fair amount...
As regards Grimclaw: Yeah, that third vote seemed pretty superfluous.
As regards krashbot: Yeah, I agree that the reasoning in his voting post seemed a bit OMGUS-y. Your reasoning seems very weak. I'd probably vote for you, but I believe that would put you one form lynch, which would make me uncomfortable.
@everyone: As I'm still new to the game, do any of you think it would be wise for him to claim?
I support a claim from Krashbot. It'll get the game moving and give us an even better lead, or give us time to find another person before a deadline is made (considering how slowly this game is going).
Several things to say here:
1. big fos tuatha for using the n00b card AGAIN. She has failed to not use it in a single one of her three games, AND she was scum in the only one out of those three that was finished (newb 7). She let off some very strong scum tells but somehow managed to avoid a lynch by playing the newb card over and over.
2. I had been undecided on Krashbot just a bit ago, but in lieu of his recent posts which seem to say "Vote me because I look like scum even though I'm not", "Treigit is scum", and "Well.... I guess I'll claim but only if I have to", I'm starting to lean a bit more towards scum. I believe he is at 6 right now under the assumption that the vote count is correct, so I'll vote krash but depending on his claim, I may or may not unvote.
3.

Sorry sgdre, but somehow I dont follow your logic there. How does that post say fos everyone??
For one thing, I'm a he. For two, I'm a bit slow at catching on. All I did was ask if a claim was wise, incidentally. I've read through a couple games, but I'm still a bit hazy on when someone should claim and when not, so I asked the question. I'm not sure why this makes me scummy. Is asking for people's input on whether or not a claim is a good thing at the moment-because I'm not certain myself-really a scummy thing to do?
@ kops: NavyJoe FOSed everyone who was under suspicion at the time. He did this without adding anything new to the subject. To me, it seems like a nearly worthless post disguised to look useful. Also, it sets him up to either upgrade to votes (if they are townie) or to claim that he was suspicious of someone (if they are a fellow mafioso). Its not a HUGE HUGE tell, but it seems significantly stronger to me than this stuff about the third vote on grimclaw.

Can I ask that you please rescind that policy? This early into day 1, it's hard to get posts (which can contain tells) under the best of circumstances, but now if everyone is afraid of being modkilled when they post, I'm afraid the conversation may dry up completely. Especially since I don't think I saw a single post that I wouldn't consider relevant to the game, everything is either a vote, or a response/ question of someone (from a cursory scan).

I think we're moving along the right track, for the moment, albeit rather slowly. I'm quite happy with pressure on both Grim and sgdre. Let's see where this takes us, eh?

It's not much of a bandwagon, rather a prod to get online.
It's only a bandwagon if something comes of it.
Nevertheless, I agree that three votes is a bit too much to prod.

Vote: Krashbot101
That said, I agree with Axel, Krash's post doesn't look that good, and I do want to hear more from him. Vote Krashbot (some numbers). (Please note, this is not hypocrisy. I fully support pressure votes whenever, I just think that trying to get a claim/lynch this early is bad.)

"I know nothing of the law, only vengence" -Dom, U/G madness
The reason I put the no spam rule into place was because the number of worthless posts hadn't gone down nearly enough since the first page. Realize that I'm not going to be an ass about it and try and kill people, but if a post does nothing to help the game, I'll have no problem weeding the chaf out of the game.

Unvote, Vote krashbot
FOS sgdre
Some people may call it bandwagoning, I say w/e, I vote with my gut. And I still have my eye on you, sgdre, you're just fortunate enough to have someone who acts even more like mafia than you
Also, @Xim: tregit unvoted in post #78 (he also had changed his vote at some point prior to that), so he shouldn't be still voting for swinkee in the vote count, as far as I know.
Right now, I'm looking at Treigit and Krash. Treigit pulled his vote when it reached 3 (far from a lynching). This could be a classic mafia cover up in the beginning or could just be cautious play...hmmm...

For some content, I am going to VOTE NavyJoe. So far his posts consist of early game nonsense (but no random vote!!!), a lurker vote, and his last post that reeks to me of "FOS everyone." Also, the 2 ppl he FOS's are ppl already under suspicion.
Incase you haven't noticed, my reaction was to try to stop incriminating myself by not posting and looking for things that make other people seem scummy.
[qoute=Treigit]I am pushing for a claim/lynch.[/quote]I get your reasoning for this, but it still seems way too early for this, especially when we still have something resembling a good discussion going. Honestly, it's very possible that you saw some scum-looking stuff from me and decided to just go for a lynch to try to get on to day 2. Your comment about how you wanted me to keep talking also points toward this seeing as I had yet to say anything that didn't point to me being scum. Therefore, if I keep talking, you just get more and more evidence to pile up and you can lynch someone that you want out. So, I seem to have found a good reason for this...Vote Treigit

As for claiming, I'm willing to claim if that's what people want, but as was already stated about 15 jaggillion times, claiming this early isn't always a good idea. Based on this, I'll hold off on a claim until we get a couple more people asking for it.

I agree, as I said 2 days ago (top of the page) I don't like pushing for a lynch/ claim this early
15 posts in 48 hours is healthy? Look at the time stamps on any other games in this forum.
I'd seen how you react to pressure (poorly) and wanted to see what you do when it eases up (lurk).
If I were scum, I'd want a player I'm more concerned with out of the game. I'm going after you because I think we need a wagon to spark discussion (Yes, CP you are right this time.), and you're obviously the best canidate.
What do those numbers on the bottom mean?

@everyone: As I'm still new to the game, do any of you think it would be wise for him to claim?
vote carrion pigeons for casting that third vote on Grimclaw. I agreed it was uncalled for, and when others saw this too, I feel compelled to act.
This is the closest thing to a lead I am working on.
I don't wish this to be a rolling bandwagon.
This is name-wise only.
1. big fos tuatha for using the n00b card AGAIN.
3.
(underline by me)
Sorry sgdre, but somehow I dont follow your logic there. How does that post say fos everyone??
