LFR: The chance that he's a townie power role? The fact that there is no wagon on him? The fact that we've already had 2 people claim abilities today? If I didn't think RA trying to push arim's lynch was scummier, I'd vote for you right now. FOS LFR

We all have the chance to be townies with power roles. He targetted Cyan, Cyan died. Why shouldn't he claim an ability?
So? I don't want him to claim because other people don't. I feel he should claim because I think it is in the best interests for the town.
He did claim partially. He name claimed. He claimed he targetted Cyan. Cyan died. Why shouldn't he claim an ability?
Because He's Jay. Jay is not going to be scum. Jay and Silent Bob are two of least likely to be scum in this game if iyou know anything about the viewaskew universe.

So you're willing to give arimnaes a complete pass? On flavor alone?
I don't like the anagramming idea. It wouldn't be too hard to create a computer program to help with the un-anagramming. Knowing Az, he probably has one all ready.

Hmm. Initially, what I was thinking by the term "anagramming" was the first letter of various words, all strung together in a nice mess.
Then I remembered what the word actually means.
I think perhaps the method which I was originally thinking of would work better.
You'd need to follow some of the suggestions that I mentioned earlier, like being careful what letters you insert and where, and you'd also need to insert the number of characters in your actual claim statement to prevent tailoring to the situation. But, I think it would work quite wonderfully, and be nigh impossible to decode, even more so than basic anagrams.
Just FYI thats acronyming although I'm not sure that's even a word. As it is, I'm far more comfortable with acronyms than anagrams although I do think there should be some extra words thrown in that aren't necessarily mentioned to make them longer. The main problem with this though is that the role-name could be too easy to discern. E.G. the example you gave above lends itself pretty clearly to be Bob, the something. As such, Everyone should probably throw a fair number of letters on the front and back, but leave the entire claim as consecutive, ordered letters, giving the number of characters to hopefully prevent all tailoring although someone with a lot of time on their hands may be able to come up with 2 possible claims.
For example, yours could be LTAOCBTHCODWRONTLD (31). Much harder to crack, no (obviously the actual claim wouldn't be bolded in the real thing)? Possibly include the number of words too to further stave off tailoring, and I think you're pretty much set.

The only thing I don't like about tacking on extra letters is that it lends itself to flexibility, if scum want multiple choices of what to false claim.
Including the number of words helps some though, so maybe we could try it that way.
I don't see how that is any more secure than what I suggested, and it strikes me as both a lot less, and a lot more tailer able. It seems to me that with an anagram you're going to be quite hard pressed to come up with even 2 possibilities. Though, I suppose either is equally workable. We're still not hiding submarines.
Im still againts the whole concept. This is just a novel way of letting the mafia have a way at getting the names of each town member, under the guise of a "code".
I will refuse to anagram if pressed.

So Loran, is this to say that you think there's any useful information to glean from those 51 characters that I posted without my assistance. If so, please demonstrate.
Don't you realize how horrible it would be as scum to have to claim and ability claim on D1? All scum in this game are against this proposition, either openly or to themselves.

I'm still not entirely sure how this works...are we acronyming the actual role pms given to us? wouldn't that eventually neccessitate pm quoting, which is against the rules?

We want to avoid direct quotation of even the first letters of any sentence in your PM. That could fall under the banner of direct PM quoting.
What you may want to do is paraphrase a line from your PM, to use different words to say something similar, and consider using that as one of your acronym strings. For the other, simply devise something that works for whatever role or name and movie that you have, may or may not come from your PM, as you see fit.
For the record, in my own string, I separated my relevant information amongst both strings, so both are relevant to figuring out my identity.
OK, so I basically just took exactly what my claim would be if I claimed normally and made it into an acronym. So you can count the words if you so desire, but it has 192 characters not counting punctuation/spaces. Disclaimer: I counted by hand so please allow for human error. If anyone has a better way of counting (some kind of character counter that doesn't count spaces) then please tell us and I will confirm my count.
PPE: Nymphe: simply pretend you were asked to claim because you had a bandwagon. Write out your claim in word or such (leave out the "I am" and whatnot). Then turn it into an acronym.
For example, let's say my claim was like this:
I am George Washington: head of the continental army. I can order troops to move around at night, specifically causing all actions to target one player (of my choice) to target a different player (of my choice) and vice versa.
Obviously, I completely made that up and it was a pretty crappy role flavor-wise but please excuse me for it. Anyway, that would become: GWHOTCAICOTTMAANSCAATTOPOMCTTADPOMCAVV
I would advise not starting with your role name as in that example (note: I did not in my acronym) but instead come up with some way around it.
*goes off to find a truly diabolical anagram protocol*
This is not contributing. This is not helping.
Loran's suggestion that Jay could not be scum is bad logic, while RandomActs' logic is even worse.
As for armineas being a power role, I am doubting this. We know he is not an information role, we know he is not the doctor, and we know he is not the vigilant.
Grudgingly, I'll accept that I don't see how this could harm the town.
HGDBJOTMLDJASBAMPITOTRITPOPAGTPDBTAGTSKOPROTFD. 46 words, 196 characters without spaces.
Though this may be defunct, soon.
RandomActs, you're setting up a false dilemma in saying that if I was lynched and turned up town, it would make SorryGuy look suspicious. I've already admitted to targeting Cyan last night, which means that my alignment, or what ability I used, has no bearing on SorryGuy's alignment.
Non-OMGUS vote RandomActs. I note also that you originally suggested that I ought to be lynched, rather than that I ought to full claim.
Also SorryGuy, for the sake of argument, what makes you think I can't have an info role?
Also, Kops, you can find and replace spaces with nothing to get a character count.
SG- I agree it seems unlikely, but there has been a trend amongst mods to overload the town w/ one type of role to cause counterclaim miss lynches. If, however there are that many info roles, I doubt they'd all be sane.
I think people is going to laugh at me when I do claim. My sentence structure is utterly ridiculous since I am not really sure how to paraphrase. *My first time having to do this* If you manage to crack it somehow, I'll idolize you.
Anagramming is what we decided on? Well I can think of a few reasons why I 'm not a huge fan of this, (17 in fact) that I can talk about later.
However, if all the cool kids are doing it, so will I. Datamining as several have said can be done multiple ways, although in this case I think that, A MINE IS SNOWY TOSS.
You can't really see what you are going to get out of this blizzard of information, or if throwing this information out there will do any more than throwing a snowball at a passing car (i.e. only get you in trouble later).
First off, this is a really really pointless idea. It is far too easy to create acronyms with multiple meanings and the same leading letters and the same character count. This isn't going to catch out an intelligent mafioso, particularly as they can be almost totally truthful in their claim i.e. character and just play around with the role information.
Why mention that now, while we're in the midst of claiming?
Why not wait to give advice to the scum until after the claims had proceeded?

You may want to reread some of the recent pages. We chose a method other than anagramming.
So we are Acronyming the words we would have chosen to type if we were forced to claim and writing down how many words and characters are in the claim itself?
Just trying to clarify before I do the wrong thing here.

That's the gist of it.
And some of us are also including a paraphrased sentence from our role PMs, acronymed and character-counted in the same manner, surrounding the basic claim.
Okay, I'm very against this, but at this point ive figured that this:
AHPCFCBPWHSIF
with 70 characters wont be decipherable.
BTW if this ends up biting the town like i think it will, i want it on record that i was against it.

Beaker, no one else is adding extra letters. That makes it far to easy for you to have multiple claims available. Please repost w/ out the extra letters.
Also, AZ, why did you just go ahead with Acronyms when the majority of the discussion had been on (the arguably more secure) Anagrams? I tend to trust you for proposing a plan so potentially devastating to scum, but don' like this action at all.
EBWODP: It would appear that I misspoke when I said that no one had added extra letters. LFR, can you remove them too? This tecnique is not nearly as effective if people have the potential to claim 2 or more things.
Its also potentially disastrous for the town if the scum can identify signature letters and plan their claims accordingly. As long as there is a pattern I don't see any problem with adding extra letters to the claims. Considering I'm against this in the first place, be happy you got anything from me.
