I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
There was no "doc" in this game...just Vampyr's personal doc/vig Jobie. Who absorbed 2 shots to be fair.
If Dragondart dies early, I think the scum get screwed as they have no idea what to claim with regards to WCs. DD would reveal WCs in the following order:
1. Stark
2. Stannis
3. Renly
4. Daenerys
5. Lannister
6. Balon
7 Tyrion
(If Tyrion survived that far, he most certainly would've won the game, but DYH played too good for the mafia to handle and they had to silence him).
Dragondart did not know he was revealing the Win Conditions.
DYH (Tyrion) had the most hosed role in the game. Miller, Survivor, and with an incredibly scummy role name. Also, one mafia member (DM) needed him dead, despite being a survivor.
DM managed to convince the mafia that Tyrion should be hunted for, when only DM needed him dead. So iLord, a newb, claimed Tyrion, hoping for a counterclaim. This of course led to a quick lynch. At that point i believe that if DYH claimed Tyrion Lannister, neutral survivor, he wouldn't have been lynched and would've been believed.
Renly was the other really hosed role by design. In the book (SPOILER ALERT) he dies early in A Clash of Kings and all of his followers (well all but 2, but thats not important) split into different factions, and thus in this game, it was planned for them all to join other factions. Moreover, whereas ged had a kill and immunity for 3 days and stannis had protection, Renly was unprotected.
Still, Akid made it worse by attracting attention to himself. For reference to everyone, While GRRM has confirmed that Renly and Loras are lovers, it is only subtly implied in the book and is NOT a major part of their personas. They do NOT talk like gay people. Seriously. Cut it out.

EDIT 2: Why the hell BigTime roleblocked me (I'm sure that's who it was) twice and why Rafk killed me is beyond me.
Raf thought RBing you would be a good idea, I think. Most of it was because you were unreadable, and I think we thought you were a doc or something. Then at some point I think you said you had some information, and then we killed you. Sorry.
Also, BigTime, why didn't you hammer Wuffles when you had the chance? We could have gone to night, killed Ged (who hopefully by that point was fully convinced not to use his vig shot) and won.
I was almost sure that killing Wuff would be a bad idea. Ged needed him dead, and if we kill him I was betting he would come after me. I thought that without a Ged lynch, or at the very least TFF, the game was over for the scum.
What really killed us was my poor Greyjoy claim. That caught me off guard, so I just came up with it on the spot. The wiki was an amazing friend. To think, a little more attention to detail, and this game would have been ours...

How different would the endgame have played out if dm hadn't failed to put in the kill on FooFish?
How different would the endgame have played out if I wasn't so bad at false-claims (although the Rickon claim for goat was 100% mine, so I'm happy with that one)?
All I actually needed to do on day 5 was stay consistent, stay away from Axelrod, and set up cpe (and convince Ged to go kill Vampyr and fulfil his win condition). Unfortunately I made an enormous mess of that and blew the scum's final chance.
On the plus side, I'm amazed that we even got to day 5 with BT and tanarin/goat alive after the entire mafia other than me chose to wave giant "WE R SCUMZORZ" banners on day 1
The bit I said about Axelrod being alive and Sutherlands being dead not making sense with me as scum was 100% true, by the way. I got overruled on night choices to start off with. Once dm got killed, I basically bullied my remaining comrades into doing it all my way. The only other misstep in hindsight was believing Xyre must have an ability because he knew he was roleblocked (played too many games where vanillas don't get told, but obviously the flavour of this one it makes sense that they get told). I also thought Xyre was holding power because he was so quiet a lot of the game. There wasn't really anyone else to roleblock, but obviously it would have been much better to leave Xyre alive and kill Wuffles at that point.
I think this was a pretty balanced game on the whole. The scum had every chance- at least one strong false claim (Bran), one ok one (Brynden) and some good holes left for us to find (like Rickon) to counteract the fact that all the roles were named and went with the flavour of the piece, plus town infighting (although the town didn't really realise it was meant to fight, and the only thing we really got out of it in the end was Zionite).
The only bit I didn't really like was the hidden Jaime + autokill setup. My dislike of hidden mafia is well known. Redington was no use to the scum whatsoever, but counted towards our numbers for the game and gave Axelrod something to hang his hat on (Niv is different, we were told about him when he turned but it was way too late to stop the bus that was about to run over him!).
I expected people to treat claiming and my warning about it like Axelrod did, where he admitted he was one of a group but refused to let his liege lord come out into the open. This would've made it safer for each group, as there were numerous killers about. Instead, claims were made genuinely.
The Mafia consisted of 5 players, + a mafia-ally and a person would become a mafia-ally. I thought this was fine in a 24 person game. They couldn't have started off worse: iLord was obvious scum, and Bigtime DEFENDED HIM. Meanwhile Tanarin was also under suspicion.
The next night actions I had in was a Bateleur guilty investigation on DM and a Cyan kill of RafK and the mafia had decided RafK was NOT going to make the kill and he would've been vulnerable. Talk about what might've been a really really REALLY shorter game.
Bigtime constantly defended other scums, and then lucked out when Wuffles didnt counterclaim him. Seriously, you'd think I put 2 double voters, for 2 different reasons, into the stark family? With 1 being secret and 1 being public? I was stunned by the lack of counterclaim.
Still, despite being scummy as hell, his communication with the mafia didnt help much. In the mafia communication he mischaracterized the pm about him failing to block Axel in a way that made the scum think Axel was UNTARGETABLE.....Which led to Axel surviving a lot longer than he should've. He then didn't realize that his PM about him seducing Xyre kind of indicated that Xyre was vanilla (Rafk thought Xyre was a Power Role) and didn't tell the mafia in time that he couldn't rb Ged (he switched back to blocking Axelrod).
Ironically, the mafia RB was more or less useless, it could only stop the SK, the Cop, and Foofish. And the cop was dead early.
(Also, Bigtime at one point claimed to have been seduced by Cersei at night. He had claimed an 8 year old boy that was crippled. HOW SICK DO YOU GUYS THINK I AM!)
All in all, no one among the scum deserves an MVP or LVP, they all played pretty mediocre.

Man, I really wish I was able to use the mafia night kill. I wanted so badly to use the night kill and then have BigTime roleblock TFF that last night. It would have been hilarious to shut down TFF's role when he finally found his ruler.
Even after the game, even after it was clear you were lying and anyway, even after the win conditions are posted, you still think I needed Wuffles dead.
*Sigh* What are we going to do with you, BT?
Only time will tell!
Sorry for the poor scum play you guys. All in all, I think I really learned something from this game. Like, uhh, how to play mafia for starters. First game ever, and it was so much fun.
On the Mafia MVP: I think this goes to Goat. He replaced in and didn't die. That impressed me. With the train that was about to be run on Tan, to come in and NOT die amazed the heck outta me.
All in all, I think my communication about the blocks, among other things, really did me in. Also, for my first game to be shoved into a heavy Mafia role was really crazy. It really gave me a "Whoa, what do I do?!" kinda feeling.
Overall, great game, I ahd fun, even though I shouldn't have lived as long as I did. No hard feelings, right?

@Bigtime, no she's not that sick. Also bigtime, you CAN edit now, i can't modkill you any more. EBWODP's are unnecessary.
The Town:
I had a really clumsy fix planned if any nonrenly faction lost their ability to win, that theyd just get a "Kill all lannisters and you must survive" win condition. Which in some cases would be clumsy and wouldnt fit for flavor purposes, but somehow, it never happened.
MVPS:
Game and Town MVP: THEFOOFISH
Sure he was terrible at finding Ged for 6 straight misses. But not only did he have correct thoughts and analysis in the last 2 days, but he managed to never get suspected till the last 2 days and claimed a win condition when he DIDNT YET HAVE THE CORRECT FORM OF IS just by guessing that fit perfectly.
Stark LVP: Wuffles_II HOW DO YOU NOT COUNTERCLAIM BIGTIME! AND DUDE, PAYING ATTENTION IS TECH. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Stark MVP: Wuffles_II BY BEING AN IDIOT, THE MAFIA NEVER COULD AFFORD OR WANTED TO LYNCH YOU WHEN YOU WERE THE LAST STARK ALIVE! WHICH LED TO A STARK WIN. AMAZING!
(Actually, Axel and Bate deserve this award more. But without wuffles' stupidity, they wouldn't win. Daenerys MVP: TheFooFish for Previously stated reasons. Daenerys LVP: tilde who basically lurked until he passed part of his win condition, and then acted scummy enough for Ged to vig him. Stannis MVP: Vampyr. Great theme analysis was dead on, and was right with his suspicions, only lost due to circumstance. Stannis LVP: cpe-Constantly off target and got himself vigged, and never helped at all.
(Note, jobie came close to getting this award, by HONESTLY admitting he'd run out of protection on Stannis.....but Ged couldn't believe he was telling the truth, so he shot Jobie ANYHOW! BRILLIANCE!) Renly LVPs: Akid/Niv----SERIOUSLY, YOU NEED AKID ALIVE TO WIN. SO YOU DECIDE TO ACT IN A MANNER THAT DRAWS A TON OF ATTENTION TO YOU? WTF! (also, you caused people to assume i put you up to it and hurt my reputation. Seriously people, im not mean. Stop that.)
Other MVP: DYH. Did really good with an impossible role. If there was a doc, He almost certainly wouldve been protected.
I really really really really liked Sutherlands' role....so of course he dies n0.
Overall, i had a great time modding, and im sure i've forgotten a few questions. I hope y'all had a good time as well.
I'll probably remember more comments for the morning.

That is way too many MVPs, but it accurately illustrates the one actual problem with this game. Too many townies needed other townies dead, to the point that they didn't care about lynching scum, they only cared about acheiving their own win condition. Though to be fair, this is in flavor with the series itself.
Well, this game definitely ought to have been a "Specialty" game, no question about that. But I really liked all the flavor, and seeing the full Roles I like most of them too. Not "balanced" in the sense that everyone had about the same chance to win, but I guess balance isn't everything.
Renly was totally screwed from the beginning. Least chance of winning of anyone. Actually more of a boon to the Lannisters than anything else, since him dying meant (a) they gain another Lannister, and (b) it creates much more confusion/distrust among the other players.
Speaking of which, man, I still have trouble with the idea of Seven Lannisters, even if one was unknown to them, and another one "surrendered" if he was the last. That threw me for a bit of a loop when I heard it. There was only 1 "mis-lynch" in the whole game, but it still came right down to the very end because there were just so many of them.
Plus, how sick is it giving the scum a "safe-claim" of Brandon Stark when all the Starks have "One of your siblings" or "One of your children" must survive to the end to win. Not to mention there being no Rickon completely.
It was still fun though. Nice work, Loran.
One thing that's funny is that I was willing to accept the idea of 2 Stark Double-voters for so long because the Starks otherwise seemed kind of weak. I had this conditional/retaliatory kill, and...that was it. So I thought, well, maybe the idea behind the Starks is that, if they live long enough, they can get control of the lynch....
Of course, I wasn't thinking at all about what abilities Sutherlands and Bateleur might have had, since Sutherlands died before it started, and Bat. never tippped anything either.
Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
I wanted so badly to use the night kill and then have BigTime roleblock TFF that last night. It would have been hilarious to shut down TFF's role when he finally found his ruler.
I would have kicked you both in the head, straight through the internet.
Seriously, I must have had the worst role ever. Even though I won, I still hate you, Loran. I started with no WC. I had to earn my WC by finding one specific player, and would have instantly lost if either of us died. That missed N1 kill would have sucked if it hit me. And, I thought I was going to get some awesome ability if I found Daenerys to balance my role, but I didn't; I was just vanilla. At least she was unkillable for the first few nights. Overall, my role sucked... and yet, it was still somehow really fun to play. There was something exciting about the hopeless search.
Good game, everyone. It was great playing with you. And I'm so glad BT and goat were both scum; your "logic" and "reasoning" make a lot more sense now.
And nice game, loran. Very fun and interesting. -I still hate you, though.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and Suth's role was awesome, I wish we could have seen it play out. And, loran, I hate you slightly less now for naming me MVP.
Plus, how sick is it giving the scum a "safe-claim" of Brandon Stark when all the Starks have "One of your siblings" or "One of your children" must survive to the end to win. Not to mention there being no Rickon completely.

<hotshizle> i think
In fairness, I do think that each 'group' should have had a kill at it's disposal, since it needed specific other townies dead. At the least, Stannis should have been able to 'find' Daenerys and kill her, I think.
At the time, I had no reason to believe that ALL of the starks weren't doublevoters. That is what i was thinking, anyways.
excellent "Specialty" game, loran. I enjoyed playing in it.
But...uh, why did it go to night at all?
The starks had already won at the final lynch, so there should have been no need to go to night at all. i think vampyr really got screwed out of the win there?
The long nights really did get in the way for me, though.
Well, I loved this game and have been chatting to Loran behind the scenes ever since I died.
The night of my death was really amusing. During the day I'd realised Cyan was scum, so I decided to investigate him. During the same day he'd guessed I was a cop and decided to kill me. At night... we both visited each other! Of course, he wasn't a Lannister, so by killing me he actually stopped me from pseudo-clearing him!
Also, a couple of PMs from the night I died...

Curious, who did you think were the rest of the mafia?
Quote from bateleur »
I don't really have a read. In a game that size it's easy for players to simply remain quiet. Would expect at least one fairly quiet Mafia member.
My top three scum right now would be something like:
1) Cyan.
2) Bigtime.
3) Tanarin.
Following which I spent the rest of the game thinking "Nooo - this is so harsh! I get my best scum read ever and I'm too dead to make use of it. And I'm probably going to lose!"
But no! Wuffles FTW! <applause>

Besides balance reasons, i learned to omit members of a family/group in a mafia game from a mod of LotR mafia who left out half the fellowship. That shmuck.
:-P
I felt that was the most important bit of why this game was balanced. The scum had to have places to hide so that they'd have to be caught on behaviour rather than claims (except in my case, since I blew the claim so badly). How overpowered is it for most of the town to be insta-cleared when they claim? loran had to build in ways for the scum to blend in and ways to make the town resist wanting to claim.
I agree that there was at least one scum too many (Redington for a start). tanarin/goat's mafia traitor role could probably also be removed, since it's an extra body for the scum without an extra vote and it's a liability in the endgame (I halfway expected goat to just say "lynch him and I convert to win", I'm glad he didn't cheap it like that... I might have in his position!). However, the mafia did have an enormous disadvantage due to the number of auto-cleared townies and the fact that most of the town took the view that they could hunt each other AFTER the lannisters. Especially once TFF got told by loran that the game would continue after the lannisters died, that pretty much screwed any chance of a win by infighting
My/Tanarin's role wasn't a traitor Raf, I had to win with the Lannisters. In a way it was a bit of a disappointing role, as I couldn't make a night kill and didn't have a vote and lost if I was the last scum, but I enjoyed the small part of this game I played anyway. It seemed like a very fun game overall, and I wish I could have been a part of it from the beginning.
That last day kind of sucked, as every point along the day any hope I had was systematically smashed. First, Ged received confirmation of TFF. Secondly, Ged didn't actually have to kill Wuffles, as I had misread his win condition. Thirdly, The game didn't immediately end with the Lannister's losing, so my huge stretch of a "Ged playing to win" argument didn't jive anymore. Finally, TFF confirmed that Wuffles was a he when I pressed him about his role. That left only BigTime as possible scum, along with me, by association.
Besides balance reasons, i learned to omit members of a family/group in a mafia game from a mod of LotR mafia who left out half the fellowship. That shmuck.

Well, it's not quite so much you leaving out members of the Stark family as it was you specifically giving a Stark child as a safe claim when we've got those win conditions. That would have been more like I told the Mafia in LoTR - hey, there's no Gandalf, Legolas or Gimli in this game, so you guys can go to town claiming them - and then made one of the "win" conditions for the town that a member of the Fellowship specifically must survive.
We would/could have still lost this game, even with all the correct lynches, simply if the order of the scum lynches was different. If Tanarin gets lynched when DM got lynched, for instance (and there was a lot of suspicion on him) then that basically pushes back all the scum lynched by one. The last two are Raf and Bigtime, neither of whom will "surrender." So the final Night, they could kill Wuffles (all the Starks now lose) or Ged, and then be in a 1-1-1 situation with Wuffles, TFF and last Lannister. I hate to even think about what would have happened if Sansa hadn't been killed early and Reddingtion got "released" on Day 4.

Meh you're probably right on this. I should've just cut the Tommen role entirely. Still, Reddinton's release wouldn't have been that bad, cuz Bateleur was on a roll, and would've had gotten probably at least 1 other player via cop investigation. Just my thoughts.
I thought the dynamic of having a cop who if killed early would kill off a mafia member was interesting, personally.

Well, if they happen to be gay (as opposed to sleeping with each other and also being into women), then they would talk like themselves, and hence, "like gay people."
But yeah, I know what you meant: that they don't talk in a grossly stereotypical manner. Niv and AKid, your manner of portraying that your characters were lovers was really ignorant and offensive. "Gosh, I just LOVE HOT MEN. In fact, I'd sleep with ANYBODY who's a hot man." Just... ugh.
I was so confused by my role. Even when I died, I was only pretty sure that I wasn't scum (because I needed the Lannisters dead, and they showed up red when they died...).
For the record, I am astounded that my argument with Cyan ended with him "dropping" the issue... and then promptly killing me in my sleep the following night. I don't think I've ever seen him give up.
Cyan: did you stop because you thought it'd make you look bad? Because you thought I was right and you couldn't justify your attacks anymore? Or what?
Also, AKid's role was really really unfortunate. Even if it fits the story arc of the game, it's not cool to give someone a role with no powers that is almost guaranteed to lose.
Also, AKid's role was really really unfortunate. Even if it fits the story arc of the game, it's not cool to give someone a role with no powers that is almost guaranteed to lose.
I didn't think it was guarenteed to lose. Akid's role was the 2nd or 3rd worst in the game (the worst being DYH's by far). I was tempted to give it out nonrandomly to a good player, but in the end I only did that for DYH.
And to be fair, it's not AS bad as it looks, as the mason ability allows for some coordination to help it survive.
For example, Akid and Niv shouldve claimed if pressured to be the OTHER person's role, so as to keep Renly alive. And if they hadn't been so annoying, they clearly would not have been NK targets by anyone, or even likely lynch targets.
Also, DD you weren't scum, but you weren't truly alligned with any of the factions (you were kind of aligned with Dany, but not really).
Speaking of coordination, I'd expected the mafia to make sure to have bigtime and tanarin voting the same person early no matter what, or have them both not vote at all. They really failed to utilize the secret voting nature of bigtime's role to any real advantage.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Sorry scumbuddies! I played horribily this game and got myself lynched Day 1. The worst part is when I saw DM defending me. I thought that the obvious move was to bus me, so I felt horrible that I took down Draygn Mage with me the next day.
So, any ideas on what I should've false-claimed? (BTW, I missed Sutherlands Win Con (I saw it right after I made my claim.))

The irony was it was random that a stark died and the stark win condition was also posted....it wouldve been posted even if he hadn't died.
And truthfully? I'd have claimed Sansa. You didn't want to accidentally kill her, and she'd have had to counterclaim. But you were right not to waste a mafia false-claim....you were going down regardless sooner or later.

Yeah, I figured I should've claimed Sansa afterwards. Any ideas on what could've been done with the letter?
The mafia letter writer is a favorite role of mine. In my first game, the mafia was able to fake a cop investigation with one and lead the town astray to lynch the vig.
There were a number of uses. When Niv came aboard to the scum, the letter could've been used to give him instructions. Or you could try to mislead/confuse other players with accusations via pm or threats or the like. It's a fun role imo.

I couldn't decide whether the letter came from a town or scum player, and therefore whether I should respond by false-claiming Sansa or Jaime. In hindsight, I guess I should have claimed Sansa, since almost everyone wanted to keep her alive; but, Loran scared me with his warning to be careful about claiming, so I just stayed quiet.

Seriously. Cut it out.
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
Raf thought RBing you would be a good idea, I think. Most of it was because you were unreadable, and I think we thought you were a doc or something. Then at some point I think you said you had some information, and then we killed you. Sorry.

Even after the game, even after it was clear you were lying and anyway, even after the win conditions are posted, you still think I needed Wuffles dead.
*Sigh* What are we going to do with you, BT?
Man, I really wish I was able to use the mafia night kill. I wanted so badly to use the night kill and then have BigTime roleblock TFF that last night. It would have been hilarious to shut down TFF's role when he finally found his ruler.
That depends on how sick Cersei is...
Did you have fun modding? Was it interesting or painful to watch this game?
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Stark MVP: Wuffles_II BY BEING AN IDIOT, THE MAFIA NEVER COULD AFFORD OR WANTED TO LYNCH YOU WHEN YOU WERE THE LAST STARK ALIVE!
BRILLIANCE!)
Renly LVPs: Akid/Niv----SERIOUSLY, YOU NEED AKID ALIVE TO WIN.
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
Besides balance reasons, i learned to omit members of a family/group in a mafia game from a mod of LotR mafia who left out half the fellowship. That shmuck.
:-P
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
@Vamp: You played really well, our group just kinda got screwed over needing 3 townies + balon dead, and only having 2 semi-kills at our disposal.
I think that opened the door too much for people to wagon me to a claim.

excellent "Specialty" game, loran. I enjoyed playing in it.
But...uh, why did it go to night at all?
The starks had already won at the final lynch, so there should have been no need to go to night at all. i think vampyr really got screwed out of the win there?
The long nights really did get in the way for me, though.
Following which I spent the rest of the game thinking "Nooo - this is so harsh! I get my best scum read ever and I'm too dead to make use of it. And I'm probably going to lose!"
But no! Wuffles FTW! <applause>

Thanks guys. haha
But seriously, I can't count this as a win truly, even though my faction won. It's like getting an unemployment check...
And Loran, that was the most confusing but well-made mafia game I've ever played. It was so complicated it was fun haha. good work man.
:p:D
Water under the bridge now.
I didn't give them rickon, and unlike LotR, this background wasn't as well-known. And the other 2 false claims sucked.
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
Oh, and I would have killed BigTime when he left out the part of his WC that he had to have the SK dead.
