I waved back at you didn't I? I thought that was the signal that you targetted me.
I did never bother claiming my ability though, since it wasn't needed for DYH. My latent ability was exterminatus (sp?). IIRC, if town was about to lose, and I was still alive, I had a everyone had a 90% chance of dying.
You should have counterclaimed Andelijah when he said he had a kill everyone in the game ability.
And Turbo got lucky with Cyan - he definitely wasn't on my scumlist.
It wasn't luck, it was skill Actually, despite my early attempts at building a case, he's not one I would have felt good about lynching without a lot more discussion, but as a Cop I either get a doomed mafia or a cleared townie so it was worth a night action His actions didn't really scream SCUM but I just got the impression of him sitting behind the curtain, pulling strings to manipulate discussions to topics he wanted, and he seemed a little too confident in some things.
From what we've seen of the setup it seemed like a very interesting game, the unlocks are a nice twist on standard Motivator roles. Can't wait to see the full PM list.
Here's mine:
IMPERIAL ORDO MALLEUS INQUISITOR “The creatures of the Warp have but one trait with which you need concern yourself - their undying contempt for the Emperor. It is your task to quell the rebellion they preach, and the only sure way is to destroy them utterly.” – Inquisitor Qualtak Shoran
You are an inquisitor of the Imperium of Man. More specifically, you are an inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus tasked with seeking, identifying, and destroying any psychic or daemon threat to the Imperium and the immortal God-emperor. As a member of the Inquisition, you are requested to apply secrecy and subtlety in any actions you take, and under the direst of circumstances, you may reveal yourself.
Daemons are creatures of the warp, or the ‘other’ dimension. More importantly, Daemons are creatures of Chaos personified into all the hate and destruction and unholy contempt for humanity as a whole. May the immortal God-emperor protect.
-Traits-
You win when all non-Imperial (faction) players are eliminated.
Your race is Human.
Your faction is Imperial.
You are a Sanctioned Psyker.
-Abilities— Detect Daemon – Night Only
At night, you may send me the name of a single target player, living or dead, in the game via PM. You will spend the night investigating the target. You will be told whether or not that player is a member of Chaos (faction). You will also be told whether or not that player is a member of the Imperum (faction). “Suffer not the daemon to live” – Passive Ability
If you have detected and confirmed a player to be a member of Chaos, your votes from that moment until the end of the game, could double against that player under the condition that the word ‘Chaos’ appears in text somewhere in your post. (Note from the mod: Just for my benefit, it may be advantageous to also send me a PM as a reminder that you intend for your vote to count double. I will try to keep up, but a reminder never hurts.)

*dies for pm quoting*
Both of these are second editions actually, as he had typos in the first pm both times. "Suffer not the daemon to live" originally claimed to work against ANY player so long as I had made a successful investigation, and Purge Daemon originally required me to use "detect xenos" and could not be used the same night as my "detect heretic" lol.
I targetted DYH the night I died. He seemed pretty townie, but Sobek hadn't, and while he had good reasons for calling for a mass claim it also could have been a ploy for a SK who needed to kill a specific player etc.

Quote from Sir Blakely »
turbo...my god. you have reached Uber-Nerd-Dom (TM).
When MMoD's race and faction were both revealed to be against your win condition and no other player seemed to scream "scum", I would have hoped that was adequate enough of a signal that you were not town.
You claimed a different race and faction from the mod-confirmed innocent and that hurt you.
There wasn't anything in my PM to suggest that MMoD was town and I was not. The fact that MMoD's WC was public didn't change that, and even if it had, I wasn't going to assume you had given me the world's worst role. You seriously expected me to logically infer that I was a serial killer without a kill until I happened upon another Eldar to clarify my role for me?
Pardon me for not assuming that you had taken an already difficult role (SK) and nerfed it to the point of unplayability. I had no clue I was going to get extra abilities once I targeted an Eldar.
If you die without recruiting anyone to, JodoYodo becomes an ordinary survivor and armlx becomes an ordinary serial killer.
You could consider yourself a cult-leader of neutrals that recruits only neutrals. Your win condition revolved around unifying the two. Their win condition revolved around killing others or surviving.
The odds of the Eldar were small in the beginning and grew as days passed. You did not fire night zero and that could have made the difference.
I don't like the perspective this is coming from. You're saying that it's okay to put a bunch of neutrals into a game, all of them at half-strength or less from what would be normal, and all of them with less information about how to behave than they would normally have, because there's a miniscule chance that they might all manage to join together and combine to be about as strong as your average SK in the endgame?
No. Just no. I am telling you now that this role was 1) not fun to play, and 2) not well-balanced. I'm not blaming you for that, because there are some cool design elements included in the role that could convince someone who hadn't played it that it could be fun or balanced. But it isn't.
The thing you have to be absolutely MOST careful about when designing a game is messing with win conditions. It's always chancy; this just happens to be an example of a time when it didn't work out.
How so?
Once you 'recruited' the serial-killer armlx, you get an average of 1 kill per night. Recruit yet another, and you get 1.5 kills per night.
Yeah, unless one or both of us decided to use a different ability, which was kind of necessary, since JY needed to join the group in order for us to be viable in the least part.
You're imagining that we get to use limited resources (in the form of night actions) without limit, and I'm not sure why. What you basically did was introduce an SK into the game who doesn't get a kill until maybe Night 4, on average. Maybe. If all three players got lucky.
Add all that up with a believable flavor-based falseclaim, and I do not believe you were that weak.
Oh, heck yeah. Double standard much? We're expected to figure out that we're anti-town based on race, but the town isn't supposed to be able to come to the exact same conclusion, with the exact same information?
I really believe that your claim that you were a non-imperial hurt the most in spite of contradicting the mod-confirmed innocent. Armlx joining in hurt you all even further. The one eldar that did not claim was JodoYodo and he survived to endgame.
1) If I had let armlx die instead of supporting him, JY and I wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell of making it through the game.
2) I didn't even know JY existed. For all I knew, armlx was my only chance in the game at salvaging a completely useless role. I had NO choice but to do what I could to save him.
You say it hurt, and you're 100% right. But there was never any other choice.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
I waved back at you didn't I? I thought that was the signal that you targetted me.
Yeah, I thought that was the sign you picked up on that, but then Abso leaving it out of his spreadsheet made me wonder. I got some really confused PMs from Abso the first couple of nights- I suspect Abso changed his mind at some point on how confirmation PMs would work (this might have something to do with the wording issue with ea ar refta for all I know).
I did never bother claiming my ability though, since it wasn't needed for DYH. My latent ability was exterminatus (sp?). IIRC, if town was about to lose, and I was still alive, everyone had a 90% chance of dying.

Along with the night kill target, you may tell me any real-world time (Hour and date), post count, game day, or game night. That player will be informed come morning that they feel very ill. They will die as soon as the specified trigger is resolved.

Illusion – Passive Ability
During any night you are not performing any other action, you may PM me a race and a faction. Any detection abilities that would attempt to discern your traits instead yield the results you have fabricated. (Note from the Mod: The most common faction is “Imperial” and the most common race is “Human”.)
Chaos Undivided
At night, you may speak to all players in the faction Chaos via PM. Those players are collectively XXXXX, XXXXX, XXXXX, and XXXXX. You all work as a group. At night, the Chaos faction may designate one person to perform a kill. That person should PM me the name of any one target player, living or dead. That targeted person will be killed before the next morning.
Coroner
You are the city’s coroner. As long as you are alive, the city will be informed of the name, race, faction, and abilities of any killed individual.

Falsify Records - Interrupt Ability
At any time during the day or during the night you may send me a PM expressing your intent to use this ability. I will send you the role PMs of everyone that is expected to die that day or night. You may alter the abilities of any one of those players’ role PMs in any way and send it to me. The next time that role PM will be revealed to the city, it will be revealed as your fabricated version instead. If you die, your fabrications will be revealed. This ability can only be used once.

Are you honestly suggesting that I should have assumed that I was an SK with no kill? That that would have been good play?
If someone is declared as pro-town and you're a faction who needs them dead, I think it's safe to assume that you are not in fact pro-town and won't be treated as such.
If someone is declared as pro-town and you're a faction who needs them dead, I think it's safe to assume that you are not in fact pro-town and won't be treated as such.
MMoD was not declared town, though. He was declared Imperial, and we were just coming off of loran's Sword of Fire and Ice game.
Given that the alternative was believing that I was the most hosed player ever, I don't think concluding that this was a faction-based game was unreasonable.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.

If MMoD had a declare faction ability and his faction was, in fact, no the town majority, it'd be an amazing red herring to throw people into confusion and doubt. Given my own win condition, after I found out about the Imperial win condition I had strong feelings that the Eldar were more numerous than suspected, since otherwise I'd only be able to win with scum.
I felt that it was pretty reasonable to assume I was town, given that my ability was innocent.
It doesn't matter even if I had made that assumption. I couldn't have let armlx get lynched. I did not have that option. I had to corroborate his story in order to have any hope of getting any use at all out of my role.
You act like things would have gone better for me if I hadn't claimed what I did, but you're wrong. If I had let armlx die, I would have been an SK without the ability kill people - you literally cannot design a more pointless and useless role.

1. CP knew that he needed the Imperial dead.
2. Hopefully from general flavor and the amount of Imperials claimed and killed (MMOD and Pod) knew that the Imperials were at least the largest faction, if it was a faction based game, much like the Starks in SoIaF.
3. However, unlike SoIaF, CP needed the largest faction dead, and so the largest faction probably needed CP's faction dead.
4. So, it would be the smartest move to blend in with the largest faction, no?
However, he is right about Armlx. Once the Eldar lost Armlx, they had almost no chance of winning.
Even in a faction-oriented game, even if cp isn't sure of the majority faction, he knows he needs the Imperials dead to win and that there must be some out there (whether a majority or a large minority). Publically putting himself out there as Eldar to protect armlx was a big risk.
It wasn't necessarily a mistake, though, he DID need to keep armlx alive.
Abso: so Alx2 was on the winning side, right? There wasn't any living unsanctioned psykers was there?

Hey, you! Yeah, you behind the computer screen! You're unconstitutional.
Yeah, armlx getting bandwagonned so early was an enormous blow to the Eldar. Think for a moment- what if the town didn't know about the Eldar, and armlx and cp just got to play their abilities pretending to be town? So that part the Eldar only have themselves to blame.
It also hurt the Eldar that the Chaos played badly. If we had a couple of mislynches there would have been less pressure to have the Eldar killed (including JY) because we would have had to focus resources on Chaos, there would have been a roleblock to stop the town doing anything it wanted, etc etc
So, just like most things, at the end of the day..it is all Loran's fault.
I hate you.
EDIT: Abso, please tell me that passive ability of mmod's was false and wouldnt actually trigger! That's so unfair.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
You're right. Your team playing poorly made it so that your role was less effective and you had less of a chance to win. I hate it when that happens.
Me too. I especially hate it when poor design exacerbates the problem to the point where one relatively easy-to-make mistake from any of three players blows any chance of winning the game out of the water from the start.
Your sarcastic response does not in any way take away from the fact that no Eldar player did anything that the mod should not have been able to anticipate and design around, nor that there was zero margin for error. It also does not account for the fact that even with perfect play, the Eldar's chances of winning were STILL close to nil, due to our lack of information, and due to the numbers of kills in the game that could wreck us completely at random.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.

I think I definitely did make a mistake during the Eldar speculation after armlx claimed Eldar. I speculated in the game thread that perhaps the Eldar faction was bigger than expected. Chamber (who was following the game at the time) mentioned to me that this was exactly how the Wu faction (at least I think it was Wu) was outted in RotK mafia.

Even then, no. You were the prime lynch target on Day 2 before you ever claimed. If you hadn't claimed what you did, I would have been gung ho for your lynch right up until the moment where our sudden total inability to win came down like a ton of bricks.
Your choice to claim may have been based on a misunderstanding, but it didn't hurt us more than any other choice would have. We were screwed from the moment any one of us started to be a lynch target.

My recollection is that I was encouraging the Shu to regard the Wu as enemies- I had no idea if that was true, but the Wei Mafia were weak so we needed the Shu and Wu to fight. And Chamber defended the Wu, so it was obvious he was one of them. I don't think it was one specific comment.
Incidentally, speaking of weak faction games, the Wei were a 4 man mafia in that one out of a very large game (25+?). All vanilla except for one roleblocker. One of the members didn't know who the rest of us were (and vice versa) and made a dumb mistake and got lynched day 1. The second one got nightkilled that night. Az and I survived to LYLO. I survived to final 3. And if I'd come up with the Emperor claim a day earlier or the town had been a tiny bit less overpowered (fade not NK immune or the doctor not secretly confirming himself to his patients) I probably would have won. I still rate my mafia play in that game above games I've won like Kung Fu or Sin City, I just got luckier in Kung Fu and Sin City.
There's weak, and then there's making the best of weak
Given 24 mafia, cp, I'm not going to feel sorry for you getting a weak faction this time You're completely right though that the lack of a solid kill from the beginning and not knowing about each other meant that you were pretty much gone if one of you became an early lynch target. Even a really weak mafia without abilities, like Wei in RotTK, has the kill and the knowledge and that's the key to actually being a mafia.
Given 24 mafia, cp, I'm not going to feel sorry for you getting a weak faction this time
I'll give you that, but then again, that game was so unbalanced that I outed myself out of pity to the town. So it's frustrating hearing people say that the situation here isn't just as pitiable, when in fact it's at least as bad. arim at least had the sense to realize that he'd made some mistakes.

This game could have gone much differently if the Eldar knew to claim Faction: Imperial rather than Faction: Eldar. We had Imperial Orks, Imperial Eldar wouldn't have been much more of a stretch; and I would have backed Armlx's claim and never shot at him, since I was somewhat expecting another 1/2 vig to go alongside my own ability.
Oh well, poor Eldar. And I'm happy to have another game ending vig-shot.

You should have counterclaimed Andelijah when he said he had a kill everyone in the game ability.

You may not use this ability the same night you use the ‘detect Daemon’ ability and you must announce your intent when targeting a player.
Oh, heck yeah. Double standard much? We're expected to figure out that we're anti-town based on race, but the town isn't supposed to be able to come to the exact same conclusion, with the exact same information?
1) If I had let armlx die instead of supporting him, JY and I wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell of making it through the game.
2) I didn't even know JY existed. For all I knew, armlx was my only chance in the game at salvaging a completely useless role. I had NO choice but to do what I could to save him.
You say it hurt, and you're 100% right. But there was never any other choice.
