1) That's not the point I made in that post. I'm saying that the whole "random voting vs. no-random voting" conversation is a waste of time. That's not a defense of random voting.
2) Irony? Huh?
1. Yes, I am aware of the point you made. You're saying the current stage of the game is useless, (and you say it in a way which got my interest).
2. Two people saying very similar things in completely different ways. It had me chuckle a bit.
@ Xyre- If all the animals on the equator were capable of flattery, then Thanksgiving and Halloween would fall on the same date.
A man goes to see a movie. In this movie, four men are playing golf, when a storm builds. They play through anyway, and when one of them swings backward on his drive, he his suddenly struck by lightning. Another man walks out of the woods, grabs the electrocuted man, and drags him into the woods. The other three men continue playing as if nothing had happened.
When the man leaves the movie, he discovers he has a flat tire.
Well, if he had a flat *tyre*, I'd say he's in England. But, with tire, the possibilities are USA, Canada, Australia, and whatnot. Did I just waste 60 seconds of my life? Yep, sure did.
Also, do you *really* need a cat to pull off Hell in a Handbasket?

Hmm. Interesting. Let's put StrangelyQuietAndNotAnsweringQuestions!Cyan aside for now...
@krowzy: Kind of... eager, aren't you? I'll answer your question, though -- #68 could only be read three ways, as far as I can see. The first would be claiming that someone targeted him -- except that his wording doesn't quite fit with this interpretation, notwithstanding a strange confluence of multiple night actions all targeting him. Didn't seem too possible, so pass on this.
The second interpretation would be a softclaim of sorts, either of ability or rolename -- the former is fairly obviously one of two possibilities, if this is the case, and the latter implies some fairly important rolename. Either way, it's kind of odd for him to throw it out there on Day 1.
The third way -- well. He could just have been indulging in a nice, relaxing maritime activity. *cough*fishing*cough*
@tanarin: It was more the strange way you chose to emphasize 'towniness', actually. But it was early and fairly minor, which is why I didn't comment further. Was more interested in reactions to it.

Hi guys, sorry to be late- I've been unable to post since Saturday, Lesurgo just fixed my account for me right then (thanks Lesurgo!). Will catch up shortly and post something substantial, there seems to be a fair bit to work with already.

Easy, I didn't ask because it just seemed as if he FoSed me for questioning wuffles bandwagon comment, which by the way quite a few people did as well.
I find this hard to believe for a few reasons.
1. If you did believe that was why DC was FoSing you then you probably would have provided some kind of defense or responded.
2. I got bad vibes from you emphasizing the fact that responding to my accusation was easy.
3. DC voted Wuffles based on his post in response to your FoS (I think).
4. Plus, DC fosed you in post #43 before you called Wuffles out on his bandwagon comment. Therefore, you couldn't have thought he was FoSing you for your Wuffles bandwagon comment.

Sorry. Didn't see that question. You should probably expect the answer, though -- I was looking for their respective reactions to the FOSes. The initial FOSes were for: In Wuffles's case, the rather odd way he chose to try to 'push past random voting', and in Tanarin's case, it was in response to #41, where he seems to push his own 'towniness' (referencing 'finding scum') and seems just as eager, though not saying so as directly, to 'start the day'.
Wuffles's response to the unspecified FOSes was strangely defensive and followed by avoidance tactics, which earned an early vote. Tanarin's response to the unspecified FOSes was to say nothing at all. That didn't say anything one way or the other to me... although you're perfectly right with your analysis above, and I'm not sure I like that response from him either.

Are you guys really trying to use that bit by Zionite as evidence against him? If we're attributing it to oversight on his part, this pretty much disqualifies him from being mafia, since he'd obviously be aware if his team was communicating N0.
Could he be the SK? Sure. He could also be the Vig. Or have a passive ability. Etc.
Voting him based on this is complete and utter fallacy.

You know, for someone playing their first game of mafia, you seem to be very much aware of Cyan's playstyle. I mean, I know he's legendary, but has his fame reached even those who never set foot in a game before!?
Saying nothing at all can mean many things, but it's in then end completely null, so i agree with you there.
Defensiveness is more likely a scum tell than a townie one. Your analysis is correct Des. Vote wuffles
Sigh. I hate this. See, this is a huge misunderstanding. Overdefensiveness for some players CAN be a scum tell. But it's not the way for all players, and i'd say its not a high enough percentage of players to be used as a blanket tell like you're using here.
(For the record, overdefensiveness IS a scum tell of me, loran16. Which is what has created the misunderstanding in non-vet/non-good players.)
Also, Unvote. Descourtes is trying too hard. Curious that...but before i figure out what it means (it generally means one of two things, but they're rather different) i'd like to hear him answer alx's point.

Lol, I love the 'this must be my first game because I said so in the signup thread' line.
Wouldn't be much of a gimmick if you openly admitted it, amirite? Too bad you blew it anyway.
Regardless. Being overly defensive is a scum tell sometimes. But not for Wuffles. He is always overly defensive. As town anyway. I've never seen Wuffles as scum.
I'm still happy with my vote on DesCourtes; these last few posts have only reconfirmed this.
Obviously. And a gimmick who lies and says it's his/her first game of mafia rather than admit to being a gimmick, which isn't exactly trustworthy... but I guess it's a lie to protect identity more than anything. On the other hand, desCoures also seems to be using the newbie card, and if he's lying about being a newbie that's even more dodgy.
Considering voting desCoures on this, but need to finish catching up on the thread first. Bear with me.
And there is Cyan, who is plainsightlurking and has apparently chosen his tunnel vision target for the day, surfacing to make assertions.
This really draws my attention. it's an attempt to be derogatory about Cyan, obviously, but it's internally inconsistent and suggests desCoures doesn't actually think of Cyan as such.
"Plainsightlurking": an accusation that Cyan is using a scum tactic.
"Tunnel vision target": implication that Cyan is townie locking onto one suspect to the exclusion of others, as he does.
This is the sort of thing a scum would do when looking for bad things to say about Cyan rather than a townie looking at what is scummy.
Checking in. I forgot how fast these threads build. Lots of banter but no real "meat" to read over...
Except for Abandon Hope's post. I don't like that he comes out with a claim of someone targetting him last night. Night 0 was a no kill night and this kinda smells of someone fishing for an information role to come forward which only the scum benefits from happening.
To wade into this debate a little bit, I read AH's post similarly to draygn. I think bat and a couple of others I don't remember off the top of my head are being a bit pedantic about this- yes, AH didn't say straight out "someone targeted me" but he does seem to be fishing for someone to say something.
Are you guys really trying to use that bit by Zionite as evidence against him? If we're attributing it to oversight on his part, this pretty much disqualifies him from being mafia, since he'd obviously be aware if his team was communicating N0.

Somewhere between reading this thread and others I missed when we got out of the random stage.
AH's post doesn't sound like someone asking for hidden information. It sounds more like someone giving out hidden information to those that know how to use it.
You know, for someone playing their first game of mafia, you seem to be very much aware of Cyan's playstyle. I mean, I know he's legendary, but has his fame reached even those who never set foot in a game before!?
Research. It's only healthy. It's how I can say loran16 is always scummy, Tilde shouldn't be underestimated, and RafK is probably scum if still alive after Day 3 or 4. It's also why I called out Wuffles, because what he said was fairly out of character given his previous games; although initially I chalked it up to frustration at the fact his Pen and Paper Inn game seems to be stalling, the sarcastic defensiveness raised red flags for me.
It's also how I've developed a healthy distaste for Cyan's playstyle despite never having actually played with him before. Wasn't there a couple of games with mafia saying 'town Cyan singlehandedly won us the game'?
There. Now with that out of the way...
@loran16: It's not just 'defensiveness' in this case. I read it more as 'sarcastic defensiveness' than 'frustrated defensiveness' -- the latter is more town, the former more scum. Also, re: 'trying too hard' -- would you prefer lurking?
@Cyan: Still not answering questions, I see. Still surfacing to make accusations and assertions, I see. A sum total of 5 posts does not seem conversant with you as town, although the last post (re: Zionite wagon) was perfectly right. However, the bulldogging is almost classic Cyan-town. Heh.
@RafK: Point of logic. The newbie card goes like this: "OH NOEZ I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING DON'T KILL ME I IZ N00B". You will notice I make no mention of my 'newbieness' before directly asked about it, nor am I using it as an excuse. I don't like being misrepresented -- as often as that may happen in a Mafia game, and for as many varied reasons.

Someone finally pointed that out. Interesting that it would be you.
Since no one else is going to hop on the wagon after this, I would take a note of the ones who eagerly latched onto the krap logick reasoning behind it.
@Datte: No need to answer that question any more.

That answer is sufficient.
I have another question for you: are you generally cautious with your votes?
Solid Snake
This being the first time I'm voting in a game of Mafia, I can't really answer that with any real veracity. I suppose I err on the side of caution, though.

Surely it isn't your first time to play...is it? You have decent reasoning skills for a newbie.

Curious that...but before i figure out what it means (it generally means one of two things, but they're rather different) i'd like to hear him answer alx's point.

really? I figured that out on page 1. it's GiaG All over again...
also, Zionite seems to have the right idea...I'm pretty sure I know who DC is, but I can wait

To wade into this debate a little bit, I read AH's post similarly to draygn. I think bat and a couple of others I don't remember off the top of my head are being a bit pedantic about this- yes, AH didn't say straight out "someone targeted me" but he does seem to be fishing for someone to say something.
Yup.

I'm not sure how I feel as far as AH. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, as he certainly could have just been commenting.
I think that the idea of me lurking is uhh..pretty funny. It's also worth mentioning that that particular post by DC was 100% OMGUS.
There is a surprising amount of evidence against DC for us being less than 200 posts into the game. How nice.
That game never happened since
A. Never finished
and
B. Fayul ran it
Hey, its true!
And I'm still waiting on descourtes right now.

Especially the epic Az. vs RafK battle at the end.
Somewhere between reading this thread and others I missed when we got out of the random stage.
AH's post doesn't sound like someone asking for hidden information. It sounds more like someone giving out hidden information to those that know how to use it.
Simple reason? Because people can read.

Wuffles is playing like he does as town. I've only ever seen him be town. Apparently he was scum in White Stripes, with me no less, but that game was a total failure, and I remember nothing of it.
I have no read on Stormblind.
