I'm still not sure about SO. If he had this ability, why would he propose a first-letter kind of claim? If he has the ability to tell absolutely if a player is lying, it would make sense instead to have everyone say "I'm Mafia" or "I'm Town."--something that doesn't risk getting a false read from the vig. If he only has the ability to tell if a player is lying about being able to kill/being able to tell if the player is the vig, why would he have proposed a first-letter softclaim? Sure, he could have just been suggesting a claim to use JY's knowledge, but if he was, it has nothing to do with his ability anyway. He still isn't making sense to me, so I want him to explain these. I will leave my vote on him for now, though I will likely move it if he can explain what he was thinking. At which point I would like to move on to toast. He STILL is fence-sitting. STILL.
I don't usually do this, but.... QFT. There's still something horribly fishy about the initial proposed claim from Some One. It doesn't quite fit the mindset of his ability, nor would it have been of any real use to the town.
Still, I don't think he's fakeclaiming the way I was in VR. It should be safe to let him swim for a while, now that he's locked himself into a dangerous claim.
will post later when I've read all that's happened, up to page 9.
As for the fence sitting, what I was trying to do was saying that I would vote for Some One, but felt that he had too many on him already, I wasn't trying to sit on a fence... although that's how it came out.
I find SO most suspicious, but also Gman, hence the FOS.
More later
So... you found Some One suspicious, but also found the person at the forefront of the attack on Some One and raising many pertinent points against Some One suspicious as well.
Me again.
OK, suspicion on SO pretty much cleared now, his ablitity gave him fair easons for acting like he did.
If you got everyone to say that they could kill someone, and therefore found a vig, would you announce it to the town?
As for Eco's pushing for information about the role ability, I think it's justified. I want to know what would happen f we decided to use it.
As for JY's quasi-verification, I think we have the chance to save it.
as I see it, mafia targets for tonight, are SO and JY, as they have the cleasrest abilities, and so highest priority, unless they have guessed who's got cop or doc.
SO's seems more dangerous to scum so I'm assuming he's higher priority.
I read the last bit as speculation/direction. Null tell, though, all things considered.
@Andelijah, so are you saying I was fence-sitting?
As I expressed, i would have voted if SO had not already had so many votes on him.
But I did say I was suspicious of Gman, so it's a moot point, really.
@Pale Mage, I stopped midway because I had to go eat, and only had reached up to where there was emphasis on me fence-sitting.
So this is assuming that if SO finds a vig he won't announce them?
Query: why were you suspicious of Guardman, in the context that you were supposedly also suspicious of Some One?
ok, I fully understand the fence-sitting business now.
Nom Anor, are you saying you would like me to vote for either somone or Guardman, then?
Surely there is the possibility of more than one town vig?
And is Andelijah voting for me? I Didn't see that one

I am also curious about his ability, just because it seems unusually powerful. This is setting off a few bells.
I see several possibilities (possibly more):
1. He is completely telling the truth and the town has an easy win.
2. There is some restriction he isn't telling us about.
3. He is actually scum, and is trying to find the killing roles (since he can find the vig while claiming to be looking scum).
4. He is scum and is using his ability to create a fake scum list for us to follow.
5. He is completely lying about his ability.
Option 1 seems a little powerful, so I am inclined to believe choice 2-5 are more likely.
Also I would like conformation on his ability as well. Possibly some sort of meaningless soft claim where some players lie and some tell the truth, and he has to tell the difference.
I believe a blind soft claim like this is the best way to prove his ability before we go blindly following him.

It would, except as far as we know you two could be scum buddies.
By doing a mass meaningless soft claim like I am suggesting means that each person gets conformation on his ability, without the suspicion that the person who asked the question and got the answer was a scumbuddy. Everyone doing it also provides a large enough sample size where we can make sure he isn't pulling random true/false answers out of his ass.

He seems no more powerful than a gunsmith to me at his absolute peak, and he has to claim first to accomplish that. I disagree that this role is game breaking.

Don't think I'm not onto you...
Counterclaiming as vig is simply a matter of shooting the person. Counterclaiming masons requires lynching to test. And if masons aren't in the game, the scum potentially have a free claim. Vigs are much more common. The gunsmith route is much better.
Sure, if you knew 100% that masons aren't in the game.
However, if there is a 70% chance that they are in the game and the scum claim them when they aren't, they have a distinct possibility of riding the whole game without being killed, or even suspected.
See Harry Potter Mafia if you want evidence of this.
SO's ability seems really powerful, but it seems easy enough to test. Softclaiming seems fine to me as a way to check on it.
I'm confused about why there is a discussion of the scum/mason gambit. Yes, it's possible, yes it's very dangerous. If we're worried about it, why don't we try to completely break SO's truthtelling role? Is it worth the risk that he's a scum with a truthtelling role fishing for information.
If he is a scum/truthsayer, why would he have proposed the letter claim? I think he did just to look for liars. Not as likely to hit as a mass "I can nightkill" claim, but lying still probably indicates scum.

IMO, Some One's ability iseems too rediculous to be town. You could just have everyone go through a series of questions that would eventually reveal whether or not they are mafia.
Simply having everyone say, "I have the ability to night kill and communicate at night" would easily out the mafia...

Also: SO, if someone puts 2 sentences in a post, can you determine that both are true or false, or that something in the post (ie, one sentence OR the other) is a lie?
Someone (the person) asked us all to announce a phrase so he can determine it to be true or false. The point has been made about what if we all agree and something dumb happens. Well regardless I think she should all be equal when it comes to these little things.

Key instantly replied about how he was wrong on what he thought. (It was 1 minute between posts..) Then took another 2 minutes to post how right DC was.. The whole exchange just seemed off to me. Mostly because of how fast Key responded. And how umm wrong he was as well.
Also the exchange between Cyan and DYH has me worried. I am really not sure what to think of those two.. If they are town, I know for sure that they play better then this.. Which is why I am slowly thinking that they are not on our side...

What exactly is wrong with my play, Roja? And what the heck does Cyan have to do with it? Him agreeing with me that SO put himself in a position where he'd have to put up or shut up? It's exactly what he (SO) did.
I have the ability to kill another player.
* * * *
All this talk about SO's ability being "overpowered" is silly; he had to out himself in order to best be able to use it effectively. Tell me, if his role is so good, why don't cops come out and claim day one again?
As far as a soft-claim is concerned; I'm all for it.
The one known as DYH asked me what is wrong with his game play. And why does it involve Cyan? I am just having flashbacks on when the two were in another game. And If I remember correctly, DYH was very vocal and spoke up on how a quite Cyan was clearly scum. "It is what scum Cyan does" are what I remember. The game is still in motion but lets leave it at DYH was correct. DYH mentioned how he was wrong, he isn't "wrong", just different.
Now granted, I remember Cyan saying something like he is trying a new method of playing (which seems like only posting little as possable it seems). However the fact that Cyan has only made 4 posts in this game, and DYH has not ONCE mentioned it has me wondering why.
I look at DYH and think that he is aggressive. And I do not see that here. However I am really not sure what to think about it.
I also wonder how many people we have wanting a soft claim vrs no claim? I would think a soft claim of the first letter of our name would be great.

I'll be lenient this once. It doesn't look to me like any harm has been done either, so I'll err on the side of not ruining anyone's fun for the sake of being a disciplinarian.
HOWEVER.
There will be no further leniency to anyone for any edit offences at all. Consider it a collective final warning.
This logic is ridiculous. His ability, if he's telling the truth, is by design easy to confirm. Whether he confirms it today or tonight is irrelevant.
I seriously doubt you have a more concrete way to do so than this.
Also, guys, I really, really think that a soft claim is a good idea.
I was thinking that if his ability was mafia, then he could just lie about who has what ability. But I guess that would end up in him dying.

As I said, it doesn't hit the serial killer.
Right now the possible targets include:
Vig, Mafia, SK
Changing the sentence reduces it to:
Mafia
I rather have a false positive (aka finding the vig) and simply claim vig than clear someone that isn't cleared.
Anyone who does not have the capability to kill is pretty solidly town. Using the other sentence, while that is likely true, it is not nearly as certain.
I looked at the calendar DYH provided me. He was explaining how on the weekends that activity is low. How could I disagree with him, I too find myself very busy on the weekend. He used this as a reason why he hasen't started questioning the activity level of others.
However when I was looking back I realized that the time period I am questioning was also a weekend of time.. He used it as a way of nailing a scum Cyan. And yes every weekend is different on what we can and cannot do. However if I were to use the same method that was used there, the results are Cyan is scum and I think DYH is fishy for NOT calling him out for it.
Of course there are other factors like Cyan stating that he is going to be posting less. (Which he has done so.) I guess my question is if DYH thinks that Cyan is scum for activity and activity alone. Why or why not?

No.
Cyan has not posted much, but he has commented on the relevant topics of today (SO, soft-claims). Elsewhere, he didn't comment on anything relevant.
Also, Roja, I went back and checked and you're wrong about the time line. I launched my full-out assault on Cyan on a Tuesday afternoon. Cyan had been to thread on Monday and posted a movie comment.
Regardless, that's probably the last thing I'm going to say about that game, because it's still in progress and anything beyond public knowledge is off-limits.

I just hit edit instead of quote on accident though so i might be modkilled...

I missed the implied only one post per night. This makes his ability much more balanced and believable.
Well I guess my softclaim idea isn't as good as I thought it would be when I thought he could target everyone in a single night.
I guess the next plan of action is to figure out which peaple we want him to investigate before the day is done.
Ah, #218, I see.
I don't notice anything different, for what it's worth. Up to the mod, though.
Jund Fangirl; Few things can describe the bliss of the fangirl's cries fading to silence (broken by occasional munching sounds).
Grixis Emo; 'Why should I go out there? They're all uncaring zombies! *sniff* No one understands me...'
Bant Wageslave; Behind every successful knight is a corporate drudge doing his taxwork.
Naya Overenthusiast; Because there is such a thing as too much enthusiasm.
I'm going to kill myself if i get modkilled. I have thought of a ton of ways to use my ability and i end up getting modkilled...
that's what i get for moving too fast.

I'd like you to comment on this - as your logic seriously doesn't add up.
That sounds unlikely in a normal game. I hope.
hey that's weird, I swear I suggested the exact same thing a while ago...
Andel: why don't you think it would be worth claiming 2 sentences? Too much effort?
Also: SO, if someone puts 2 sentences in a post, can you determine that both are true or false, or that something in the post (ie, one sentence OR the other) is a lie?

I have the ability to kill another player.
Yea that sounded good. Nice and booming.
I have to say I kinda have my eye on Keyofdestiny. After desCoures mentioned about how Someone's ability is one post and not all posts.

All this talk about SO's ability being "overpowered" is silly; he had to out himself in order to best be able to use it effectively. Tell me, if his role is so good, why don't cops come out and claim day one again?
As far as a soft-claim is concerned; I'm all for it.

I was thinking that if his ability was mafia, then he could just lie about who has what ability. But I guess that would end up in him dying.
I think you missed the part where I thought he could use it on multiple people a night.

Mafia Stats:

Why?
Right now the possible targets include:
Vig, Mafia, SK
Changing the sentence reduces it to:
Mafia
I rather have a false positive (aka finding the vig) and simply claim vig than clear someone that isn't cleared.
Anyone who does not have the capability to kill is pretty solidly town. Using the other sentence, while that is likely true, it is not nearly as certain.

Because it forces the mafia to play around information they've already revealed. I really don't want to re-hash this argument again (another game), but limiting possibilities for them is always a good thing.

Furthermore, I am taking Cyan's new playstyle promise into account (as in, I'll believe it when I see it).
