And a backpedal. I'm not sure if this makes you scum or not, but it's certainly worth keeping my eyes on you.

Jumped on TFF for something highly minor, from what I can see. I don't think it's worth a vote yet, though.

I'm leaving my vote on Ced since he's scum.
Based on what occurred, the chances that dkd is scum have just risen significantly. If I have to spell it out for you, you probably deserve a FoS too.
Jeez people calm down... I voted TFF because he indicated that he had a name. I know that I don't, so I found it suspicious and voted him for it. I figured if he had an actual name, then he was likely a terrorist. I applied pressure to see how he would react. His specific use of adjective led me to believe he simply made a mistake.

The lines from Manders' 80 and 82 struck me as though she's putting a little too much effort into being cautious over the whole "speedlynch" affair. A townie might take it with at least a grain of salt (like, well, the whole pre-game so far), but she seems like she wants to come off as having a stance, rather than it actually being a reaction.
Actually, compare to her reaction to my vote, which she does react in the sort of way that I'd expect town to react to the original speedlynch incident.
I also had my eye on her for the evils at Nom in 44, but that's not that important.
Heh, forget it's still pre-game. This is new to me, man.
It's ok, Ced. I know I'm not scum, and you will, too, soon enough, I'm sure.
I didn't vote because I thought you would surely unvote when you realized I had forgotten we were still in the pre-game. It felt like RVS, so I reacted naturally to talk of speedlynching someone.
Disagree. We were still firmly in the, uh, pregame stage at the time. Lots of fooling around, much of it incited by/involving Manders. Then, when the speedlynch idea comes up, Manders takes it at face value straight away. Now, I guess that there might be some debate over ~V~'s call for it. But mine was pretty clearly not serious (I'd been pushing the "speedlynch Zchinque lol" wagon earlier). But she threw it into the quote-response anyway. It's not Manders being open; she's being conservative if anything, like she's saying "don't know where this is going: let's keep to a straight no just in case".
How am I not being open Ced? I'm expressing all my thoughts as I always do, and I am against speedlynching.
And, I'm known to take things at face value. Remember in #14 when you were posting nothing but brains? Go back and see again who first brought up the possibility of a PR. In a basic. (To save you time, it was me.)
And before it is said, that is NOT an OMGUS vote. Ced just voted me for the most obvious BS reason.
He's better than this, and I'm being reminded of DYH in Highlander.
I posted my reasons more than you did. I thought your vote was random, but now I see it was not, but the reasons you provided were bull☺☺☺☺. I had refuted your accusation that I was overreacting in the pre-game, yet you didn't add anything new or unvote.
On the softclaim: Meh. I remember it hurting the scum a little in Danger City, but only because they didn't have daytalk (the scum here do, apparently). It hurt me in IDF mafia, but WoD is not desCoures. I have a minor reason to believe that the softclaim won't help us hinder the scum, but not one that I wish to divulge at the moment.
Then why bring it up? Your reasons were good enough without posting that.
Well, I think that we need to clear a few things up here first.
1. You're defending Manders based on her "normal" play. The particular thing you bring up was her "open" style (this is in point 2), which you say is typical of town Manders. But that's only half a meta case. What about scum Manders? You have to compare and contrast the two playstyles (Manders town and Manders scum), pick out the differences and compare those. If Manders is similarly "open" as scum, then isn't it an exercise in futility to defend her for it?
Oh, and FTR, I am not that familiar with Manders' playstyle. My last real game with her was Basic #14 (Family Mafia hardly counts for meta purposes). I'm basing my argument on what I see in this thread alone.
And what, other than the pre-game overreaction, have you seen to make you think I am scum?
Don't twist my words.
Lets see your original words.
On looking back at some other games, I'll agree with you on this point.
But why do you stick your neck out for her at this stage?[
To call that twisting your words is ludicrous. "Out" could easily be replaced with "On the line" without changing the meaning of the statement.
You know, it would be helpful if you'd participate in the usual mafia song-and-dance: accuser finds something unusual, considers scum motive, makes accusation. accusee explains town motive. discussion back and forth, etc.
Want to try it?
Was I voting you for a different reason when you made your post 90, then?
See above
Of the people voting me, AI is the least likely to be scum.
Then why did you just accuse him of twisting your words?
I initially mixed up DKD and indomitablebug, and was similarly confused: indomitablebug's reaction to the softclaim is pretty townie.
As far as DKD goes:
176: Were people actually considering this post scummy? I've seen plenty of townies do that before.
190: This is a little noncommittal, language-wise ("I might be swayed"). The IGMEOY thing is something newbs tend to do a lot anyway, but is theoretically a scumtell. DKD: What games have you been in?
194: A bit of the logic bugs me here. If you don't think that it hurts, why don't you want to do it?
There's some legimate stuff there, but overall it's a bit meh. I assume that DKD is a newb, and cases on newbs are tricky, since they tend to be crapshoots with maybe only a small slice of relevant analysis in there somewhere. There's better leads.
Now why are you defending him? What is with you two?
Jeez people calm down... I voted TFF because he indicated that he had a name. I know that I don't, so I found it suspicious and voted him for it. I figured if he had an actual name, then he was likely a terrorist. I applied pressure to see how he would react. His specific use of adjective led me to believe he simply made a mistake.

Ok, I see the problem. You thought he meant a name, like Barack Obama. I'm almost positive he meant role name.
See this is all very interesting, well and good. But I'm still a little stuck on the part where az admitted he was scum and hasn't been lynched yet. unvote vote az.
In other news I am pro softclaim in general but i think that name/nation softclaim is really not going to do much. Name won't really restrict the rest of the claim much do to bastard moddery, and Nation could very well hurt us if there is some kind of cult in this game.
See this is all very interesting, well and good. But I'm still a little stuck on the part where az admitted he was scum and hasn't been lynched yet. unvote vote az.
Why haven't you said anything about it until now if you believe it was real?
A) It was the random phase and I didn't see the need to add anything of significance. Even though I was professing it dead it was not officially the game yet and I didn't want to make an official vote. A vote that I felt should come with the accusation.
B) I saw no reason not to see if anyone else would bring it up, and more importantly whether they did or not what az would do before then. He seems to have attempted to make it look like he did it on purpose. I am unconvinced.
C) This is the first time I have had the opportunity to post since the thread was officially opened.
D) If i went to much longer without bringin this up then it would be looked on as old news and disregarded mostly on that merit, or not merit as the case may be.

Explain to me how exactly something can be serious enough to warrant a vote, but not in the RVS.

A) It's not so much that it was the random voting stage as it was that it was not the game yet. I didn't want to start making a real case till the game began.
B) The fact that he has completely ignored it makes it seem like he is trying to pass a slip off as a joke. If somone brought it up first then it shows me somone else who I can read as slightly more town like which is always a bonus because we are thinking on the same wave length.
D) If I want a case to be successfull of course I have to worry about its appearence. If the case looks horrible from the start then it is much harder to get someone, in this case azrael, lynched by it.
At the moment? Not particularly, as said i read you, the aggressor, as town, so no need to try to counter attack you for your case. And I read CED, the aggressed, as neutral, so i see no reason to lynch him.

Ok, going back to the post you made before I asked your opinion of my case on Ced:
So from the top
A) It's not so much that it was the random voting stage as it was that it was not the game yet. I didn't want to start making a real case till the game began.
You've yet to explain why.
B) The fact that he has completely ignored it makes it seem like he is trying to pass a slip off as a joke. If somone brought it up first then it shows me somone else who I can read as slightly more town like which is always a bonus because we are thinking on the same wave length.
Since no one else has brought it up, why would he as scum or town? I'd like to hear reasons for both.
D) If I want a case to be successfull of course I have to worry about its appearence. If the case looks horrible from the start then it is much harder to get someone, in this case azrael, lynched by it.
Just because a case starts in the random phase doesn't mean it doesn't have merit.
Besides, what exactly is your case on Az? That he may or may not have made a joke? Do you have any other quotes from him to back up your interpretation that it was not a joke? Any other actions he's done that lead you to believe he's scum?
This is a bastard game. The less attention we pay to abilities, the better off we'll be. The minute someone gets tempted to perform role analysis, our chances go down the toilet. Seriously. I almost want to say that we shouldn't claim at all prior to the lynch, because it's most likely to mislead us than anything else.
Thoughts on that?
I'm thinking I want to play this straight for the time being. So, until we know more about what this bastard moddery entails, I'm in favour of extracting claims in regular fashion. Evaluation of said claims might be different, however.

There isn't really a why..... I didn't want to start doing serious things till the game began, I'm sorry you are dissatisfied with this answer.
You have become the aggressor currently for what that is worth, the role changes hands quite often.
As town he might bring it up again to assure everyone he was indeed joking, then again he might do that as scum as well. It feels more scummy imo to try to act as if it never happenned.
I think that he made a slip, I think that he then ignored that slip and hoped it would go away. The main flaw in my own case you have already pointed out. that being that he could have ignored it as scum or town. I think the fact that the slip exists however is enough to warrent my vote on him. I do not see a reason for a joke like this being made by a smart town player.
This is of course mostly gut based as it is hard to analyze what could (though I find it unlikely) have been a joke instaid of a slip.Does az have a tendancy to make suicidal jokes such as this? If somone can show me one or two other games in which he has done this I will back down.
In other news lynching somone before/without claiming is patently rediculous.
I've never played with Az before so I don't know if that's the kind of joke he would make not what alignment. Luckily Skander and RafK are on and can hopefully offer some insight.
I, of course, noticed the "slip" yesterday. My first thought was that it was a joke because Az hasn't really done anything to warrant suspicion. I'm leery of his flip-flop on DYH, but that, too, wasn't that bad as I didn't really think DYH was scum anyway.
However, you have decided that one joke is enough to warrant a vote. Either you are scum pulling a DYH, or you are town overreacting. I'm thinking the latter atm, but IGMEOY.
Quote from Skander »
AI reads as his typical cocky town self, where he thinks he's already caught all the scum.

Someone mentioned WoD - he's a legit target.
Care to explain why?
On Az admitting he's scum - the last time he did that he was scum
Really?
I am 99% sure that whether Az is scum or not, that was not a 'slip' and was meant as a joke.
Thank you for that, as I was thinking the same thing, but you would know better than I.
Cites a meta reason to vote Az when that exact meta was mentioned in the thread on town-Az.
Really?
It was a Basic game IIRC. I want to say #11 but I'm not sure. Basically Az said that he was scum, jester theories ensued, they ended up lynching him (maybe the next day) and he was scum.

EBWOP: to be clearer - he voted Az because Az used AzPoints as scum in Symbiote, ignoring the already mentioned fact that Az used them the same way in Janus as town.

I agree with you that that was suspicious, but there's any number of reasons for him to do that which I'll let him discuss.
The reason I bring it up is because you were voting for Ced. Did you not like my case, or is this one instance with WoD enough for you to warrant switching your vote, and why?
Give me something to form an opinion around, other than you're charming, lol.
Ask, and you shall receive, love.
Well, what do you think of the situation with Ced and I?
I think that you are looking the better of the two, but I'm currently not reading Ced as scum.
What do you think of WoD?
Off the top of my head - nothing. I'll look over his posts and come back to you, if it would please m'lady.
Is there anyone you have suspicions of?
~V~ stands out a bit, mainly for his pushing the "slip" from Az.
Vez for being Vez.
Az is certainly capable of "claiming" scum as scum, but as I believe there is no chance he didn't do that on purpose, I'm considering it a null tell.

So what i'm getting is a consencus that az would not make a slip like this and that whether he is scum or not it was in fact a joke. Understood, as I was not speculating on whether or not he would do that as scum or town and in fact have no idea i will back off my vote unvote.
This is mostly from the fact that I am recategorizing AZ as neutral seeing as everyone but me seems to think that was a joke. I will defer to the opinion of the group in this regard.
My case was not forced in the slightest i saw what i considered to be a suicidal slip and jumped on it, it seems i was mistaken. I am however curious why do you all believe that that could not have been a slip and instaid must have been a joke.

Experience. Playing with and against Az for over 5 years. Knowledge there's no way in hell anyone "slips" by outright saying they are scum.
It's a null tell, since he would absolutely do it no matter what his alignment was. Ditto for "AzPoints", and any other attention-seeking reaction-seeking behaviour he may come up with, and bantering with DYH.
Other people's reactions to Az, of course, are always interesting.
On the soft claim: not convinced there's much in it here. Generally you want a soft claim to lock the scum into something (but without giving away much info of importance) and I'm not sure this will. I could probably be convinced though. But doing a soft claim just for the sake of a soft claim, no.
On my opening speech: While I was for the most part having fun there, it is true that:
- My staff evacuated the resort staff when we realised the place was being bombed;
- I killed the guy setting the bombs (this is flavour, not a night action or anything like that obviously), but not before he finished setting said bombs; and
- I am awesome.

Interesting. You have a retinue large enough to see to the evacuation of the normal staff and you're apparently PERSONALLY capable of dealing with a terrorist. That doesn't sound like any Politician I know of. (Example - The Secret Service is there to protect the President, POTUS should NEVER have to deal with something like a mad bomber directly.)
I don't know if nom is town or scum. But I'd like to point out this type of behavior is his standard modus operandi.
Court Mafia: Day 1, hatch plan to KILL EVERYONE ELSE IN A SINGLE NIGHT, when the plan only allows him to hit 11 random players, ATTEMPTS TO FIRE ANYHOW (Roleblocked).
In other words....Nom is an impulsive player who doesn't think about planning long-term or listening to others. I wouldn't be surprised if he was town. At all.
Weren't those two different things? Scum joke and role reference.
Were they? If I'm looking at the wrong post, please tell me, because I don't know what exactly people were referencing. (I didn't read all the pregame first time through because it didn't seem necessary)

I didn't vote because I thought you would surely unvote when you realized I had forgotten we were still in the pre-game. It felt like RVS, so I reacted naturally to talk of speedlynching someone.
Anyway, next, I post this:
I posted my reasons more than you did. I thought your vote was random, but now I see it was not, but the reasons you provided were bull☺☺☺☺. I had refuted your accusation that I was overreacting in the pre-game, yet you didn't add anything new or unvote.
Then why bring it up? Your reasons were good enough without posting that.
And what, other than the pre-game overreaction, have you seen to make you think I am scum?
Lets see your original words.
To call that twisting your words is ludicrous. "Out" could easily be replaced with "On the line" without changing the meaning of the statement.
See above
Then why did you just accuse him of twisting your words?
Now why are you defending him? What is with you two?
---
Ok, I see the problem. You thought he meant a name, like Barack Obama. I'm almost positive he meant role name.

In other news I am pro softclaim in general but i think that name/nation softclaim is really not going to do much. Name won't really restrict the rest of the claim much do to bastard moddery, and Nation could very well hurt us if there is some kind of cult in this game.
Why haven't you said anything about it until now if you believe it was real?

B) I saw no reason not to see if anyone else would bring it up, and more importantly whether they did or not what az would do before then. He seems to have attempted to make it look like he did it on purpose. I am unconvinced.
C) This is the first time I have had the opportunity to post since the thread was officially opened.
D) If i went to much longer without bringin this up then it would be looked on as old news and disregarded mostly on that merit, or not merit as the case may be.
Explain to me how exactly something can be serious enough to warrant a vote, but not in the RVS.
Why do you need to see if anyone else will bring it up first?
How has he attempted to make it look like he did it on purpose since it was made?

A) It's not so much that it was the random voting stage as it was that it was not the game yet. I didn't want to start making a real case till the game began.
B) The fact that he has completely ignored it makes it seem like he is trying to pass a slip off as a joke. If somone brought it up first then it shows me somone else who I can read as slightly more town like which is always a bonus because we are thinking on the same wave length.
D) If I want a case to be successfull of course I have to worry about its appearence. If the case looks horrible from the start then it is much harder to get someone, in this case azrael, lynched by it.

In greater detail you read as strongly town, and i have no read on CED whatsoever. He hasn't done anything particularly scummy and/or towny as of yet.
Au contraire. I asked for a reason.
Do you think the case has merit or not?

Wait, what? I'm the aggressor now? He voted for me first for horrible reasons. Explain why I am the aggressor and he is the aggressed.
Anyway, the point of me asking is that my case started in the RVS/pre-game/whatever the ☺☺☺☺ you want to call it. Fair enough that you don't think it has merit, but I think others will disagree and I think it has merit.
Ok, going back to the post you made before I asked your opinion of my case on Ced:
You've yet to explain why.
Since no one else has brought it up, why would he as scum or town? I'd like to hear reasons for both.

I'm thinking I want to play this straight for the time being. So, until we know more about what this bastard moddery entails, I'm in favour of extracting claims in regular fashion. Evaluation of said claims might be different, however.

@Az, I'm sure you also have to watch out for the Israeli's too. For all you know they've already launched their UAV's.
Someone mentioned WoD - he's a legit target.
On Az admitting he's scum - the last time he did that he was scum
I, of course, noticed the "slip" yesterday. My first thought was that it was a joke because Az hasn't really done anything to warrant suspicion. I'm leery of his flip-flop on DYH, but that, too, wasn't that bad as I didn't really think DYH was scum anyway.
However, you have decided that one joke is enough to warrant a vote. Either you are scum pulling a DYH, or you are town overreacting. I'm thinking the latter atm, but IGMEOY.

Care to explain why?
Really?

Cites a meta reason to vote Az when that exact meta was mentioned in the thread on town-Az.
Do you think he's doing that again?
I agree with you that that was suspicious, but there's any number of reasons for him to do that which I'll let him discuss.
The reason I bring it up is because you were voting for Ced. Did you not like my case, or is this one instance with WoD enough for you to warrant switching your vote, and why?

I think that you are looking the better of the two, but I'm currently not reading Ced as scum.
Off the top of my head - nothing. I'll look over his posts and come back to you, if it would please m'lady.
~V~ stands out a bit, mainly for his pushing the "slip" from Az.
Vez for being Vez.
Az is certainly capable of "claiming" scum as scum, but as I believe there is no chance he didn't do that on purpose, I'm considering it a null tell.

The case of ~V~ against Azrael is pretty silly, perhaps a tad forced.
1) But I am under your spell. Enchanted.
2) Read it. It's a weak point, but I am afraid I am unable to conclude any further until he posts again.
Because, love, I can see the joke coming just as easily from town-Az as from scum-Az.

I know what I saw
It's in my head, so I can't convince anyone to believe me just by saying I've been right about this before.

A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.
Experience. Playing with and against Az for over 5 years. Knowledge there's no way in hell anyone "slips" by outright saying they are scum.
It's a null tell, since he would absolutely do it no matter what his alignment was. Ditto for "AzPoints", and any other
attention-seekingreaction-seeking behaviour he may come up with, and bantering with DYH.Other people's reactions to Az, of course, are always interesting.
- My staff evacuated the resort staff when we realised the place was being bombed;
- I killed the guy setting the bombs (this is flavour, not a night action or anything like that obviously), but not before he finished setting said bombs; and
- I am awesome.
HAIL ELMO!
Yeah, I struck through the 's' but it didn't really show up.
That's a good point that I hadn't considered.
Weren't those two different things? Scum joke and role reference.
FOS RafaelK
Note to self: Your mafia theories are usually wrong, so don't act on them.
Is anyone else having a hard time keeping up with this game? It seems like there's another page every time I check.
Were they? If I'm looking at the wrong post, please tell me, because I don't know what exactly people were referencing. (I didn't read all the pregame first time through because it didn't seem necessary)

Name claim:
Interestingly enough, the name claim post has a similar "I'm scum" sentiment in it.
I want more info out of this guy.
vote: Azrael
A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.
Hardly.
Praise be.
From what I remember, scum-MandersHex tends to skirt around issues and avoid confrontation, going after weaker targets when possible. Here she is assertive and unafraid to tussle with others. Definitely her town MO.
With a playstyle that includes little to no guile; what you see is what you get.
Don't exaggerate the situation.
Seems reasonable.
Read Day One of South Park Mafia.
Nice backhanded compliment. Just to set the record straight, when was the last time we were actually in a game together? Like...Basic #7?
Yup.
While you're over there gaming the (bastard) mod ad nauseum, I'm going to be over here scum-hunting.
Azrael gives me Symbiote vibes. I think it's the whole "irrelevance" thing; he has done a whole lot of nothing so far.
Unvote
Vote Azrael
Maybe, maybe not.
Either way, I have certainly read other games since then; you're no stranger to me.
Mmm.
His play is reminding me of Manipulator early game where he was town. Of course, at that point he would have thought he was scum.
Has he been town recently?
