Premature? Personally, no. I can see where you think it COULD be premature. I am not saying we should NOT vote anyone, just be very careful with our votes and skip the RVS phase, which we seemed to have done quite well as far as skipping RVS is concerned.
You said everyone has a handicap that involves voting.
I said you can't possibly know that since only 1/4 of the players have admitted as such.
The RVS was already over when you posted that, btw, so that's all irrelevant.

Yea,h I guess I can see the point on the not claiming the handicap part. Though I think loran's and roja's handicap did need to get out there, especially Loran's.
Yea, I do agree that Loran needed to get that out there. Roja would've been outed when he tried to vote, though.
On the moniker thing. I dunno, I think there may be something to gain on the moniker part.
Why? The moniker in the example seemed random, and that's a good baseline to go off of I think.
My husband started playing it first. I told him he was such a nerd for enjoying this. Then...it looked interesting to me, so I gave it a try. Over 20 games later, here I am!
Plus, I've made a LOT of good friends from this site.
*nods*
FYI: I wouldn't fight this guy for cookies.
/barn
Edit: and I really don't think there'll be anything to gain from moniker, either.
Figured it be obvious by now, my trigger involves them. Not gonna say exactly how, but it involves them.
Your trigger involves other people's monikers?
Also, as far as activating triggers, I feel it is two fold. On the one hand, town should want to wake up any abilities ASAP, since as it is we have to assume this is a mountainous situation ATM. Any edge town can get is helpful. Not only that, we have to assume that we lose our starting ability as soon as we recall our real ability. On the bad side though, we could accidentally awaken scum, which would be obviously bad.
Actually I would think town would want to keep as much information out of scum hands as possible. Everyone has a trigger that they can persue, and if they get into a situation to do it then they can. Not a whole lot we can do about it, as we don't know what triggers are out there, or who has them.
@mandershex: Assuming the worse case scenario here on everyone having a handicap. I think we need to play it better safe than sorry in this case.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
Yeah, I just wanted to see what you had to say about it. But being that we don't know if you're scum or not, I don't think it's the best of ideas to intentionally activate anyone's amnesia condition yet. The other thing I'm worried about is, if we do indeed lose our abilities once our memory trigger is activated, how do we know our new ability isn't going to be detrimental to the town? That's why I'm currently against your idea of a moniker claim. Maybe later on if we feel it could net an advantage against the scum, IF you've been cleared by then. Otherwise, I'm not going to advocate blindly activating something that could kill us townies off, whether intentional or accidental.
You're saying that you don't want a moniker claim because we don't know what our new abilities are going to be. This confuses me, because I don't believe the two things are related.
Also, no one's talking about intentionally activating people.
Although you do make a valid point about not knowing what people's abilities will turn out to be. I don't think they will be detrimental, personally. I think of it kind of like leveling up.

This.

It's rather uncomfortable.

Oooooofffff course you do.
I'm not seeing Iso as scum just yet either. What's your read on him, and why?
My read on Iso? He's an awesome guy and I have oodles of fun with him.

Why do I agree with this? Because playing it safe when two people take less lynches than normal to lynch, and we don't know if either of them is town or not.

I wasn't fishing. It was a rhetorical "Wait, what?" type question, not a "Reveal the answer to this question" type question.
You are worrying about other people's triggers being triggered. Why? If no one's triggers goes, then the game will be really damn boring, right?
I never said I was worried about other's triggers triggering. I simply said that there wasn't a reason to worry about it because we don't know what trigger's people.
That's not all you said you agreed with, and you know it.
The rest of it was just "assuming the worst case scenario and we all have handicaps" which is possible, but specifically I was reffering to the "play it safe" part, which could help in the long run.
How does any of that point to him being scum? What is the scum motivation for that?
Maybe theres a pattern. If he's scum then he already knows his scumbuddies monikers, handicaps, and triggers. Maybe theres something in common with the triggers, or the handicaps, or the monikers (the latter of which i doubt, but still).

I mean, the best anyone really gets is omgus responses which have an equal chance of being tells as just being a knee jerk reaction. Thats the impression I got from watching people play Mafia.
For some of us, this is the stage where the scums make their first slips. Really quite glaring, if you have learned to look for it.
Yes, my trigger does involve monikers. No, I am not gonna say how.
Of course. Do note however, that unless we trust you are town, we are not going to jump just because you say jump. Because beyond this point, claiming monikers will benefit only you.
Anyway, it is appearing as if everyone has some sort of vote handicap. As has been said, this is gonna be fun. I hate to call for an all out mass claim, but we really, REALLY should go and claim any handicaps we do have. As it is, if Loran is town, an incorrect vote is gonna get him lynched most likely.
Actually, handicaps shouldn't be freely divulged within the thread, unless it's relevant.
Oh, for those that don't know, Loran will not remember that I'm a girl. It's ok. He's explained to me why he doesn't, and I'd rather him not remember, haha.
So don't hound him for forgetting.
I am interested in this. I don't suppose I will get to know why?

I just thought of something actually. What are the actual feasibility of going one full circle to turn on everyone's abilities right from the start? Conceivably, the town has a numerical superiority, so this will in fact cause an overwhelming increase in town's power as compared to scums.
On the drawback, it's entirely possible the trigger is not as simple as performing certain actions and might need the course of several game days to do so, and with the triggers out in the open, it's also easily disrupted by the scums as well against people not on their sides.

For some of us, this is the stage where the scums make their first slips. Really quite glaring, if you have learned to look for it.
I recently found a scum during RVS. It was pretty cool.
Actually, the flavor of the role should be able to account for such a trait.
Do what? Trait? I'm confused.
It's not working yet. >_>
Give it time.
I am interested in this. I don't suppose I will get to know why?
Oh, sure.
I don't know who it is, maybe Loran can tell you, but there's only one girl that's ever played on the site that he remembered was a girl, and he only remembered because he HATED that person.
So, as long as Loran doesn't remember, that means he doesn't hate me.

You said everyone has a handicap that involves voting.
I said you can't possibly know that since only 1/4 of the players have admitted as such.
The RVS was already over when you posted that, btw, so that's all irrelevant.
Explanation, please? Cause I'm not seeing it. Even though I don't really like his response...hmm.

Yea, I do agree that Loran needed to get that out there. Roja would've been outed when he tried to vote, though.
Why? The moniker in the example seemed random, and that's a good baseline to go off of I think.
*nods*
/barn
This.
That's a good point. Really, anything could be a trigger.
Your trigger involves other people's monikers?
Actually I would think town would want to keep as much information out of scum hands as possible. Everyone has a trigger that they can persue, and if they get into a situation to do it then they can. Not a whole lot we can do about it, as we don't know what triggers are out there, or who has them.
This I agree with.
/barn
I'm not seeing Iso as scum just yet either. What's your read on him, and why?
Also, what's everyones read on Tanarin?
You're saying that you don't want a moniker claim because we don't know what our new abilities are going to be. This confuses me, because I don't believe the two things are related.
Also, no one's talking about intentionally activating people.
Although you do make a valid point about not knowing what people's abilities will turn out to be. I don't think they will be detrimental, personally. I think of it kind of like leveling up.
Agreed. And?
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
Eh. That's not enough for me.
I'm watching him, though. Indeed.
Explain to me, in your own words, why Loran needed to get that out there.
I'm sorry.
Will you be pulling your head out of my ass anytime soon?
It's rather uncomfortable.
This doesn't mesh with the question from you just before this quote.
Why are you worried about other people's triggers?
Why do you agree with that?
Oooooofffff course you do.
My read on Iso? He's an awesome guy and I have oodles of fun with him.
The game just started. I don't really have a read on anyone.
Except you.

So it's not within our best interests to mistake one for the other.
Tanarin stated specifically that his ability was activated through something to do with monikers. Tanarin is ALSO talking about intentionally activating people. You're not paying attention and not looking at all of the possible sides of this, and it feels like you're trying to be disagreeable then suddenly agreeable within the same post. Something about your posts isn't sitting right with me. IGMEOY.

Because of his ability. If he's town, then we don't want to accidently lynch him thinking he's still at l-3.
I was addressing his response to Iso:
Tamarin said his trigger involved monikers.
It doesn't make sense that someone's trigger activates off of other people's monikers.
I'm not. What I said is that we don't know what people's triggers are, therefore its hard to avoid triggering them. So therefore no one else should worry about them either.
Why do I agree with this? Because playing it safe when two people take less lynches than normal to lynch, and we don't know if either of them is town or not.
Sure. I think he's pushing for a lot of information. So far he's asked us to reveal our:
monikers:
handicaps:
and alludes that knowing people's triggers would benefit town here:
I think he's fishing for a LOT of info, and as you said, the game just started. Therefore, he gets an FOS.

So, why, when I say I want it in your own words, do you start out quoting me?
What? Ok, let's look at this.
Here, you say this:
immediately followed by this:
Now, if you honestly think it's best that town not reveal information, why are you fishing for information from him?
Which you proceed to do here.
You are worrying about other people's triggers being triggered. Why? If no one's triggers goes, then the game will be really damn boring, right?
That's not all you said you agreed with, and you know it.
How does any of that point to him being scum? What is the scum motivation for that?
Nothing. Nothing at all.
But....I thought it was funny, Loran.

Nothing, but I have a lack of sleep and thus a lack of tolerance for nuisances.
Anyhow, back to lynching Iso please.
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
I wasn't fishing. It was a rhetorical "Wait, what?" type question, not a "Reveal the answer to this question" type question.
I never said I was worried about other's triggers triggering. I simply said that there wasn't a reason to worry about it because we don't know what trigger's people.
The rest of it was just "assuming the worst case scenario and we all have handicaps" which is possible, but specifically I was reffering to the "play it safe" part, which could help in the long run.
Maybe theres a pattern. If he's scum then he already knows his scumbuddies monikers, handicaps, and triggers. Maybe theres something in common with the triggers, or the handicaps, or the monikers (the latter of which i doubt, but still).
O...k? o.0

Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
For some of us, this is the stage where the scums make their first slips. Really quite glaring, if you have learned to look for it.
Of course. Do note however, that unless we trust you are town, we are not going to jump just because you say jump. Because beyond this point, claiming monikers will benefit only you.
Actually, handicaps shouldn't be freely divulged within the thread, unless it's relevant.
Vote me. I want to see a vote from you.
Actually, the flavor of the role should be able to account for such a trait.
It's not working yet. >_>
I am interested in this. I don't suppose I will get to know why?
So, now it's a matter of trust. Tanarin, make us trust you.
More replies in awhile.
