Niv's post 57 bugs me, but I can't decide how much of that is because some of it doesn't add up, and how much is because his PR is just obnoxious. I'm not really convinced that this is a mod enforced PR, though, because it's not really reasonable to be like 'you have to go find a translator and post all of your posts in some other language'.
So, Niv, if you are faking this PR, I humbly request that you stop now. If you continue with this, and later we find out that you're faking it, I am going to make certain that it reflects poorly upon you.
I feel simultaneously guilty for ruining your fun and greatly relieved. I'll remember not to complain if I play any more games after this and you fake a PR in any of them.
Katerina Papadopoulos, Illiterate exotic dancer/escort felt like it just needed to be played as such, and everyone (who's played with me in the past) knows I love PRs.
I've had what I'd say and "above average number" of them and definitely have faked them in the past.

Katerina Papadopoulos, Illiterate exotic dancer/escort felt like it just needed to be played as such, and everyone (who's played with me in the past) knows I love PRs.
I've had what I'd say and "above average number" of them and definitely have faked them in the past.
I understand it's flavor, but ever since Flame Warriors I have been wary of assuming that flavor is safe to reveal.
I think this as well - any game with as much text as this in the opening post has had a lot of thought put into the flavor, and that means there's a higher chance than normal it'll be relevant.
A lot of people were saying stuff about themselves that might make them seem scummy. I didn't even notice that Dragonheart had requested people introduce themselves, so you can discount that I guess.
I'm gonna ask some questions that were asked by someone else in another ongoing game, just to move things along.
1) How active of a player are you?
2) Please link if able a finished game you were town and scum (one of each is all I ask).
3) Do you think RVS gives you information about players?
Sure.
1.) I'm fairly active. I usually post around once a day, rising/falling depending on my relevance in the conversations.
2.) I usually play on Coloholics, so I dunno if you're willing to check em. But uh, two normals. Disney, in which I was Mafia. And Werewolf, in which I was town.
3.) Yeah, their reactions to being "prodded," can give you a lot.
Katerina Papadopoulos, Illiterate exotic dancer/escort felt like it just needed to be played as such, and everyone (who's played with me in the past) knows I love PRs.
NOTE: As always, play responsibly with your claims. You may not know what your information reveals to others.
In Heroes Mafia (Zionite's first Normal), I (as Sylar) had to kill WoD (Claire) to win the game. Players' role names and abilities matched fairly intuitively in many cases, so even claiming one's name was generally a dead giveaway.
Granted, this game has original (AFAIK) flavor, so names don't carry quite the same significance, unless of course there are roles that specifically care about flavor...of which I am sure that there is at least one, given the mod-disclaimer.
Considering the various(and seemingly random really) flavor details that were included in my role PM, it's hard to believe that flavor will mean absolutely nothing. Unless Zionite is just trying to screw with us.
Seems like this will be easier to figure out later. In the mean time, randomly dumping role info into the thread probably isn't going to help the town any(disclaiming that you have no vote is obviously something different, because that would quickly become readily apparent anyway).
You're missing my point - your "RVS be damned!" statement was a moderation of your vote in question - so while it was a serious vote, you attempted to make light of it with your tone, and that is the aspect of your statement I dislike.
I think you misunderstood. I didn't do it to make light of my vote - my intention was the exact opposite. There's a chance that is was so early in the game that people may have thought I was making an RVS vote, but I was letting them know that I wasn't.
It's not the fact that you were defending yourself, it was your language choice while defending yourself.
But, umm, I wasn't defending myself?
Either way, not much I can say about the way I talk, so I guess either you'll get past it or let it convince you I'm scum!
Don't assume things about other players' votes unless they state their intentions specifically. Generally, I do not make more than one RVS vote because it's a waste of time.
Fair point. Either way, though, I wasn't a fan of how jumpy Bolly was.
Seems like a good reason to put him under more pressure and see how he reacts, right? So I did, and he started crying bandwagon. Not something I'm going to ignore!
1) How active of a player are you?
2) Please link if able a finished game you were town and scum (one of each is all I ask).
3) Do you think RVS gives you information about players?
1) Actively read so never fall behind on the info, but only able to post once or twice a day. As such, they tend to be quite long by the end of the Day...
2) Can't, unfortunately. Played years ago on a website that I don't think any of my games would still be anywhere in their archives, but the game's changed a lot since then anyway so it probably wouldn't be relevant.
Dead in an ongoing game here, but not sure if I can say more than that so I won't.
3) Changes from game to game, but often that transition period between RVS and actual game has a lot of good stuff to look back on once a few alignments have been revealed.
May I add a fourth question?
4) Do you like your role this game?
The only information this could reveal is that which is useful to scum. Either the response will give us nothing in-game to go on, or will give away elements of the answerer's role. Do. Not. Like.
Not a big fan of the Name/Occupation reveal either, but I don't think it's necessarily scummy. It's reckless, but if it's information scum would've been able to use they'd have it soon enough anyway (N1 if not already).
I1) How active of a player are you?
2) Please link if able a finished game you were town and scum (one of each is all I ask).
3) Do you think RVS gives you information about players?
1) I'm fairly active player. I tend to post more on Wednesday - Sunday and not so much on Monday and Tuesdays. (I play mostly from work)
2) My blog contains all games that I have played in/playing in currently. My last completed scum game is StarCraft Mafia and my last completed town game is Baisc #57 Osteria Mafia.
3) Yes it does. StarCraft Mafia has a good example.
I don’t like this role information. My thought is that this could be a RoleBlocker of some sort. (Based on that occupation) Don’t feel comfortable enough to vote because of this reasoning though.
From tomorrow, I shall be on holiday until the following tuesday - If I get in, I'll try to post once or twice, but I expect that I shall be doing slightly more interesting things until then. I hope this is not a problem.
tordeck:
red_0mega tried to start his normal prior to his basic and ran into issues. The sing-up thread was suspended with a TBD status becasue of the issue with players not signing up.
I've got some more newb questions here.
#1 Does PR stand for "Posting Restriction"? That's my guess, but it seems like a strange choice of abbreviation.
#2 What does SOP stand for?
#3 What is a "normal" game defined as? Does that mean we can expect a certain set-up of abilities? I have no idea what "normal mafia" means to you guys.
Onto some actual discussion! I don't understand the logic that people revealing role information hurts the town. In my opinion, any sharing of information is always in the town's favor, with few exceptions. Those exceptions are generally when an important town-aligned character like a doctor or detective reveals themselves. Other than that, it's in the town's best interest to gather info.
So on that note, why would it be scummy to talk about your roles? Granted, lots of people like to keep that to themselves for various strategic reasons. But anyone who wants to share isn't doing any harm by sharing.

The more the scum (mafia & anti-town neutrals) know about the town, the more easily they can kill important power roles. Meanwhile, the scum with scummy-sounding roles will lie and the others won't have to. Therefore, unless the scum are terrible at claiming, claiming hurts the town. I've played in games where I advocated a mass-claim, but this is not one of them. And outside of L-2, claiming is an all-or-nothing event: People should not claim out of order unless they have a very good reason (cop with guilty investigation being the primary counterexample).
You don't even need to do that. The likelihood that someone brand new to the site just rolls into the thread as scum and throws out 'So tell me about power roles' is really low. And all of DH's posting follows a consistent pattern.
This vote will be removed if his vote is removed from me. I think it's still early enough in the game for a counter-vote to be a good enough reason.
My suspicion of ChickenFish comes almost entirely from post #35. Coming out of a situation where he voted fairly seriously with very little to back it up and potentially attempted to start a bandwagon, he then posts a long and very defensive paragraph. This behavior is scummy because his initial action seemed like it attempted to manipulate others, and then he worked too hard to cover it up. This is still a fairly minor suspicion, because he's been totally reasonable in most of the rest of his posts.

I lol'ed.
These posts are exactly what I am talking about. If someone can just throw out all mafia convention and play like this as scum, then I have to tip my hat to that person. Especially when they're brand new to a site and playing a style of game that they are not comfortable with.
Anyway, DH, a 'counter vote' is one of the worst votes that exists. If someone is voting you for what they consider a legitimate reason, then 'counter voting them' just makes you look really bad.
Hmm. Did you provide an example of a game where you are scum?

Claiming voteless is SOP, because we would have discovered it in short order anyway.

Because there was no explanation, and there's no way 'the above post' to which he referred was anything other than a joke.
