I want to qualify my previous statement regarding AE's vigs, with a response to this.
Unilateral vigging is, most often, the wrong play. I often bring up L5R, in jest, as an example of it going well, but the simple fact is that the town lost that game. I mean, sure, the town mislynched 3 out of 4, and the game was fairly scum heavy, so you could make the arguement that the vigging was the only reason the town even got close to winning, but it simply doesn't stand. It's equally easy to argue that the viggings robbed the town of valuable lynch information that could have let every other townie make better choices and pull out a win. There are simply too many variables to take into account, too many hypotheticals, and at the end of the day, you can't mistake effort with results. Games where the vig fires early and often usually end in a town loss. Period.
I agree 100% with the above statement, from a Spike mentality.
But I, myself, and simply more of a Johnny/Timmy kind of guy. Winning is great, but it simply isn't everything. Hell, if you look at my track record, I appear to be a pretty heavy liability to the teams I play on. I think I've won about 25% of the games I've played. (I'm likely to try and up my game, I think, as my status as a liability is getting worse every game, but I'm speaking historically here. :p)
I love it when people in mafia die. I can't stand waking up to a killess night, or crawling through a three month Day 1. I want blood, I want daykills, I want to see 5 people kick the bucket in a single post, I want to see gambits, I want chaos, I want action. I get killed - so what. I lose - whatever. It's nice to stay alive and it's nice to win, but priority number one for the Cropster is movement, action, deaths, and gambits. These have defined the games I find most enjoyable.
AezWolging is absolutely bad play, and people should take flak for it. But if a vig is allowed to fire Night 1, and they want to, I think they should. Good strategy is definately an important part of the game, most players will rate it as the most important, and the vig should realize that it is bad play, but if that's the way they want to go, then do it. Once again, though, I must emphasize that if your goal is to win, if your goal is to be a good team player, unilateral vigging, especially early game or at lyol, will almost always be bad play. People do need to recognise this.
Really, this was just a long, drawn out way to say that even though I attribute to Archmage one of the few big eff ups that led to the Great Amistarian Epic Fail, I haven't lost any respect for him as a player, he's still a totally cool dude, and not a bad player by any means.
Hey guys, remember that time I lynched myself when I was the doctor? Wasn't that hilarious?
Based on your discussion of your role, I figured you were the doc, since it was similar to my ability. So, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I saw you claim scum. One of my favorite moments ever.
Though I can see how it wouldn't be so amusing to the other townies.

Agreed for the most part except for in a mini game....granted i always think vigs shouldnt be anything more than 1-shot in such games, but if you're a vig in a mini you really should hold it in your pants on night 1 unless you have a claim-counterclaim (or another player claims vig).
Amestrian was heavily hurt by the Aezwolging but the town still was at fault for a lot of their loss. In a mini on the other hand, Aezwolging is ridiculously swingy and can result in the town being at lynch or lose despite not making very many mistakes. This is the same reason why SKs are bad for minis, as they heavily hurt a town.....so a town player should never try and mimic a SK in that situation.

I would have fired every night if I was the vig. I don't think AE was necessarily wrong in doing so.
My question is this: Would you have expected to help or hurt the town? Would you have done it because it is fun to win, and you want to win? Or would you have done it because it is fun to make stabby death at people and it would be totally sweet if you were right and the town won because you, specifically, killed off half the scum?

I support aggressive vigging when you don't have a dead mafia member yet. You really need that first body to anchor analysis to.

I agree with CC, I would have likely AezWolged just for the fun factor. It may not be the best decision (and I certainly wouldn't do it unless I was confident my target was scum) but in the end it's just good fun.

Give me a license to kill and look out. Trigger happy. Think I'd rather be an SK, then I wouldn't have to care.
Yeah I get impatient, I like to see things happen. Hate sitting around for months (days even) :P. I feel like CC does.
Now that bolded part, thanks for the politeness and all but don't push it I still need to do some learning.
Speaking of which, I'd like to put this to a vote (can we add a poll?) that the term AzWolg be updated to AEzWolg in honor of archmage eternal, who's 3 day town shooting spree wound up in a mafia dream game.
OK what does AzWolg mean? If its going to be me, or part of me I need to know what it means.
It's less of the matter of who he was vigging, but the fact that he WAS vigging at all on the first 2 nights. AzWolging is to be avoided early.....
The fact that he missed entirely each night made it totally epic (Just like Az's random 2 and Wolg's High School performance) but the point is, it should really never be done unless the target has done something like claim town vig in a mini when you ARE the town vig.
OK understood. See we're accomplishing things here after all.

Azwolg was a composite of two players names (Azrael and Well of Lost Gnomes) who did what you did and epic-ly failed. Thus my suggest to add the letter E to the term. The term as a verb means to vig actively early without town consensus and an A(e)zwolg is the noun form.
It's generally considered dangerous, as it can swing the game in either direction and takes a lot of decision making in the game out of the hands of the town and into th ehands of one player. Even though scum can influence lynches, the combined efforts of town players usually (at least in the first few days) allows for them to have a better hit rate than a lone vig on his own. Later in the game, a vig may be used more aggressively, but early on its dangerous.

I still think your vig performance in View Askew deserves to put you on that list. How often does a vig kill off two power roles (one of whom was the cop) on n0? Then to follow it up, you shot the doc on n1! Hehehe, and the best part, two of those three people killed were named Rafk and Azrael :o.
Seriously, that makes AEs azwol vig performance from amstarian look like child's play :p.
I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.

Reading it and the stuff after that the lake claim is pretty funny/creative. It is a totally out there claim, but is an interesting one if he really was a lake.
My most memorable moment has to be the fact that in my very first mafia game my character for my role was the character that was supposed to be killed night 0 and therefore cause the mafia game. By extension it turned out to be a horrible role to claim and to this day I don't know how the hell it got me out of being lynched.
I would also point out that game started kpaca's successful career of getting others to lynch themselves and committing suicide.
Hypothetically, of course, one or two roles from my game might be fun in such a hypothetical Redux game.

EWP: Except the difference is that in HP mafia, the play was a mafia tactic that went really well, rather than just really stupid town play. Comparing the two is really fail. You should know that. One was an individual townie causing a town loss. The other was the entire town's play causing the town loss. Big difference.
We really should have a Terrible Claims mafia. Plenty of awful claims to have as roles:
Fayul's Erestor in LotR Mafia
Carrion Pigeons' Manute in Sin City Mafia
Creampuffeater's Wu claim (Zhuge Jin) in ROTTK mafia
Chamber's masonry in Magic Mafia
Creampuffeater's Mafia2 Cop claim in Too Much Scum mafia
Sutherlands' Krobelus claim in DotA mafia
Jodoyodo's Lake in Statego Mafia
iLord's Tyrion Lannister in SoIaF Mafia
My Jin'e Udou claim in Kenshin Mafia (To be fair, and im biased, that game was b-roken)
A few others could be considered, such as KCW's in Power rangers, Abandon Hope's in Magic mafia, and plenty i've forgotten. (Hell, the ADD kid from high school could be considered....even though it wasnt a false claim)
Seriously, could be an awesome game.

SCUMMY CLAIM for the lose!
Fortunately, rafk dupes the secret townie ftw.

I believe he's still referring to Magic Mafia, where he as town claimed mason with a scum player. For the Lose.
ergo, simultaenously the best false claim (for the scum) and worst false claim (for the town) ever.

It's kind of like HP Mafia in that regard. Only less brilliant.
