@Vaimes: My #1 peeve in Mafia is repeating myself. If I seem snippy, that's why. Also, weren't you in Predator, too?
-
@Wheat: You've read post #7. So you know my suggestions for the jury were strong analysts. Ergo, anybody with a 1st-grade reading comprehension would probably then ascertain that I think Vaimes is a strong analyst. Have you read post #18? Because that's where I specifically explain why I think Vaimes is a good fit for Jury #2. Do you think Rhand can carry that role? Because not only is Rhand busy with work recently, he doesn't have the force of personality to mingle with Cyan and Seppel on a jury. Do you disagree? If so, why?
I literally stated in my opening post that I know nothing of the flavor. Why on earth would you think I've played any of the games?
Now, why are you so eager to clear Chris, and if you're so interested in figuring out my mindset, why aren't you reading my posts?

500 life point penalty to Iso. You will tone down your posts, or the hammer of justice will strike, and strike hard.
@Johnny: All the more reason why it's weird for you to complain there.
You misunderstand my complaint. I am more afraid of Iso and Chris trying to dominate the other, the third would simply be a breeze in the wind. Cyan as the third would just have three heads too many. I find your argument about my complaint to be incorrect then.

I figured out how to explain what I'm asking you, Iso: In my head I'm asking you, "why is Vaimes a good analyst?" and in your head I'm asking "why did you pick Vaimes?". I'm asking another level down - obviously you picked Vaimes because he's a good analyst and counterbalances Cyan/Seppel. I'm asking you to tell me about Vaimes but all you hear is "I'm illiterate!"
As to why Chris is town: Most folks tend to play around more when they're town, and if they play around as scum it doesn't come off as genuine. In particular, my gut thinks Chris is exactly that way.
I've played with Vaimes enough to know that he's a good player. My experience tells me that, as does his track record. Take a look for yourself for the empirical "why".

Hey all! I know nothing about the flavor of the game myself.
Why wouldn't that pool be around Day 2? Just because they are strong players, and are more likely to be targeted for a kill? I don't follow that logic at all.
Putting all the best analyists on the jury doesn't seem great either, because we want to have them to be a part of the trial as well. But with the amount of good players in this game that may be more moot?
*Stares out into the starry night sky, his window the only barrier between himself and the endless wilderness that is the untamed countryside.*
A man who has shaken the hand of another need not speak in generalities. Wheat_Grinder is a person who knows the man known as Sir Chris well, and much blood has been spilled between them. The phrase 'most players' is a troubling one when seeking to peer into the soul of one such as Sir Chris. Most troubling indeed.

Daisuke sat anxiously in the busy coffee shop outside Shibuya Station the Los Angeles Metropolitan Museum. His hands were sweating and he rubbed them on his finely pressed slacks, as Jackson, his co-worker at the law firm caught sight of him and plopped down in the seat beside him.
"There you are Daisuke! You'll never imagine how much trouble I had getting a hold of this brief this morning. You're definitely buying coffee. I take mine black by the way," Jackson said.
Daisuke motioned for the waitress but she was distracted by a couple teenagers at the cash register.
"Let me have a look at it," Daisuke said as he reached for the brief.
"Not so fast my friend. I want to warn you, this case is not like any other you've encountered in your brief stint with the firm. We're potentially dealing with some very disturbed and very dangerous individuals here," Jackson said as he wiped sweat from his brow.
The hot Los Angeles sun was already taking it's toll. This was going to be a helluva day...
I think we should try to identify a strategy that a majority of the people are reasonably comfortable with first. Suggesting players before they've even posted is sort of putting the cart before the horse.
There is no way that his Day 2 jury pool will exist by day 2.
So that makes his Day 1 suggestion highly suspect.
You're suggesting that the scum are absolutely, definitely going to use their Uber Unblockable True Shot Triple Kill on all three members of my proposed Day 2 jury? And...what inside information are you basing this on, exactly?

I mean, ultimately, the people outside of the jury are pretty moot when it really boils down to it for the lynch. I'd rather have experienced players that have confidence in their reads and the success rate to back it up in charge of the only 3 votes that count towards said lynch. Additionally, the jury can discuss amongst themselves, and they see whatever discussion is happening outside of their QT in that time span.
I really don't understand what all the hubbub that D_V and you are kicking up about this is about.

Me or Chris with an outlying chance of Cyan if he plays with the exact opposite level of success he had in Stargate. Duh? im comfortable just putting whoever we want in the Day 1 jury. that will probably end up being great and/or well-liked players, so just wanting to make sure its strong analysts is a position i understand.
but trying to plan for Day 2 now is ludicrous. we'll have actual behaviour to look at and decide who we trust enough to serve.

Its a bad plan that's why.
Statistically one of your options has to be scum, so that already makes it dubious. But since the mafia control the their votes they can also vote someone in while night killing the day 2 target, and they don't even have to pick one of their own they can just pick a townie to raise suspicion.
Because if the town votes for all of say Cyan, Vaimes, Seppel and the scum then vote for who ever and kill one of our town suddenly we have a problem if one of them is scum and they pick someone of their choice. Your plan relies on there being no counter play from the opposing team and that's just bad planning.
I mean, obviously that's a consideration I took into account. I also know that it's very hard to convince enough people to want to lynch an experienced player even as early as Day 2.

In the event that any of my suggestions for Day 2's jury are out of commission, there are enough strong analysts in this game to make up for any empty slots.
But we elect at night. Before we know who is dead.
You see the problem?
Juries are not elected with perfect information of who is alive or dead.
[3] At Night, players may take night actions as normal, but each player may also privately vote for players to become Jury members in the next Investigation and Trial phases. The players who receive the most votes will become the next Jury Members. Each player sends in their votes by PM, and may not vote for themselves. Additionally, players who were Jury Members in the previous phase are ineligible to be voted for.
In GJ's previous set-up BoAS we also voted at night for people to be on the seat. In that game town felt it conducive to make it public who we planned to vote for before night so that the information could be matched up later for analysis.
ok iso.
i know this is who you are. "iso the proud town lion" if i may get referential for a moment.
but you can't just decide two Days worth of jury based on reputation.
the first Day, thats perfectly fine.
we dont have much more to go on than reputation. (and the knowledge of how entertaining my colleague would be on a jury )
so i have no problem with you trying to dictate that, even if i dont agree that we should try to coordinate at all.
but again. for Day 2, lets base it on behavior. that is what the game is about.
in conclusion, no one listen to iso and vote who you want.
In GJ's previous set-up BoAS we also voted at night for people to be on the seat. In that game town felt it conducive to make it public who we planned to vote for before night so that the information could be matched up later for analysis.
Does anyone thing that could apply here? I do.
it may be good to make it public, at least for the first vote.
but after that knowing whos gonna be on the jury in advance of night actions seems like a bigger boon for scum than town.
how was this mitigated in that game?

This is where I feel the problem lies.
Lets say the town goes along with Iso's plan.
There should be roughly 4-6 anti-town forces in this game. So lets say 5.
That leaves 14 town votes. Night 1.
Now if we all go with Iso's plan and vote that's 14 votes on each with 6 votes floating for random players. We clearly win right?
But, lets say we know we are all voting for person X doesn't matter who, and they get killed. Then the person with 6 votes would become the new jury member. This allows the mafia to either put one of their own or a weak town player onto the jury efficiently giving them control and because we are currently talking about putting strong analysis players on day 2 some of them could possibly be mafia as well. So, this seems to me to be a suspect plan.
I don't know if revealing votes is the wisest thing. I don't disagree that it has merits, I just worry that it might negatively impact the town.

I'm going to have to go back and read. I think it was something like "These x number of people all said they were voting for Y, how did Z get elected?"
Does anyone think it's likely that scum and town could both have night actions to fool around with who gets elected?

And very likely that there are abilities flying around that might affect juries I hadn't even thought about that.

First let's just go back to the fact that the word statistically has just suffer heinous abuse due to this post. No, actually, that's not how that word or the thought usually put behind that word work. You can't just use words however you feel like. it'd be like me calling you Bumper for the duration of this game. Then again, Bumper has a rang to it. Heh. Bumper.
In reality any three names we come up with will be just as likely to be scum as any other three, because THAT is how statistics work, if we all suggest names other than ourselves whether one person does it or we try to cobble things together. That's just useless fear mongering and I have to say D_V I... do not like the look. At no point in this post do you try to address the heart of the problem: needing jury members, instead you perform nullification upon Iso's thoughts. You aren't progressing the conversation, you are making it stand still. I will say this, at this point you do not want me on the jury with you as a defendant I am not going to be kind.
Not that Iso's response, vague and not biting as it was (the fact that he didn't see this post for what it was and instead retreated into singing R Kelly's 'World's Greatest' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyaNlZaVOpc for further reference), cheesy star spangled get up and all I am sure) is also worrisome although this would not stop me from being a member of the jury with him, I just now wouldn't feel comfortable with him picking the third as well. Iso is not at his most sharp quite yet, but that's okay because I do confess that I am feeling rather pointy to start this game.

Let's get to work, gents.

ah. it didnt take very much review of BotAS to see why they did that. its in the OP
so for later Days, i am firmly opposed to making the votes public.

i can tell you that i will not be voting for cyan, chris, or iso. i dont like how sure of themselves they all are, regardless of how often they are right. id much rather someone more likely to go in unconvinced and hear the case.
and yes, i realize that means i wouldnt vote myself either (were it possible).

Anyway N0 no night actions can be taken other than voting, so let me state this plainly: I am the town's counterplay to scum villainy early on. I will eager accept any scum envoy into my QT. I will not be locked in with them, they will be locked in with me. It will be fun, I'll bake them a cake.
But I suspect scum will not want to be too obvious in their jury selection either. For one they will want to influence the investigation period as well, and for two there are no monopolies allowed in the jury. The reason I wish to to be the first one is I do not expect to survive very long. I also do my best when the field is narrowed down for me already. My town record speaks for itself. I am really amped, because I love Phoenix Wright. The last time I was this amped for a game it was Predator mafia, go read it and see what happens to scum who oppose me.

Good point. We should elect players that usually die early as jury members for the first jury. I think That would be Chris, Iso and Cyan? Maybe GJ?
Cyan hasn't died early in a single game that I have been in, as far as I can recall.
GJ though was shot over me night 1 in Predator.

You have touched on a matter for the court here, Mr. Sloger. Thus it is in my jurisdiction.
@@@MODERATORS
Will the juries' deliberations become a part of the court record? I demand further clarification of how this will be handled.
hey! this is my phase. i was gonna ask that next.
do you want me to interject about meta during trial?

You would not DARE interrupt me Mr. Sloger.
If I need your alleged "expertise," I will call you as a witness.

You misunderstand my complaint. I am more afraid of Iso and Chris trying to dominate the other, the third would simply be a breeze in the wind. Cyan as the third would just have three heads too many. I find your argument about my complaint to be incorrect then.
Next case, please.

I literally don't remember, is what I'm saying. Let me search here:
Vanillaville 2 looks like (partially as Scarlet_Electric). Last scum game was the 2015 Invitational.
Didn't know Rhand was busy with work, but I think he could carry normally.
Also are you reading MY posts because I told you I read post 18 and I even quoted the damn thing - and I told you it didn't help me.
That one I missed.
I'm eager to figure out alignments, re: Chris. For you, I don't care about your mindset because I can't read you anyway. What I'm trying to dig into is literally any info about Vaimes since you regard him pretty highly, and you post more often than anyone so you're a good jumping off point or SO I THOUGHT
you find it to be *incorrect*??? Of course it's automatically incorrect by your perspective if you're town, why would you phrase it that way?
(If you'd like me to answer your rhetorical question, I'd be happy to.)
That doesn't really answer my question about Chris. You know he's a good player. What makes you think he's town so soon?

I didn't replace in, technically. I *am* Scarlet_Electric.
Just like Iso is Blue_Electric.

@iso this is a magic website. get that yugioh ***** out of here.
What the hell is wheat on about?
The witness will not question the phrasing of His Honor before him, or else I will have to "clear the courtroom".
But for the sake of speeding things along, my motive was Iso + SC on the same jury likely won't get anything done, even if they are both town.
*Ahem* Is there any other testimony I should consider?
The GJ way path to no lynching:
There is no way that his Day 2 jury pool will exist by day 2.
So that makes his Day 1 suggestion highly suspect.
Also, another Minnesotan!
Also, I know virtually nothing about the flavor, I keep forgetting to post that.

Shibuya Stationthe Los Angeles Metropolitan Museum. His hands were sweating and he rubbed them on his finely pressed slacks, as Jackson, his co-worker at the law firm caught sight of him and plopped down in the seat beside him."There you are Daisuke!
GJ started it.
I really don't understand what all the hubbub that D_V and you are kicking up about this is about.

but trying to plan for Day 2 now is ludicrous. we'll have actual behaviour to look at and decide who we trust enough to serve.
Seriously, people. Do you think this is my first rodeo? I have considered all angles.

But we elect at night. Before we know who is dead.
You see the problem?
Juries are not elected with perfect information of who is alive or dead.
?????
Does anyone thing that could apply here? I do.
i know this is who you are. "iso the proud town lion" if i may get referential for a moment.
but you can't just decide two Days worth of jury based on reputation.
the first Day, thats perfectly fine.
we dont have much more to go on than reputation. (and the knowledge of how entertaining my colleague would be on a jury )
so i have no problem with you trying to dictate that, even if i dont agree that we should try to coordinate at all.
but again. for Day 2, lets base it on behavior. that is what the game is about.
in conclusion, no one listen to iso and vote who you want.
but after that knowing whos gonna be on the jury in advance of night actions seems like a bigger boon for scum than town.
how was this mitigated in that game?
Since this comes into play night 2, not night 1.
I think the point still stands, also if anyone has any ideas to counter this I am very interested in hearing those thoughts.
I'm going to have to go back and read. I think it was something like "These x number of people all said they were voting for Y, how did Z get elected?"
Does anyone think it's likely that scum and town could both have night actions to fool around with who gets elected?
Which game was it, that you were referring to?

Iso is not at his most sharp quite yet, but that's okay because I do confess that I am feeling rather pointy to start this game.

i can tell you that i will not be voting for cyan, chris, or iso. i dont like how sure of themselves they all are, regardless of how often they are right. id much rather someone more likely to go in unconvinced and hear the case.
and yes, i realize that means i wouldnt vote myself either (were it possible).
luckily for all of us, i wont be serving on any juries this game. my colleague says im much too headstrong.
And yes, the irony of telling other people to read and then not reading the OP, myself, is not lost on me.
