or is it more "Guys, I'll like you too if you vote the way I want"
*Points at the cat.* That's why I'm wary of her. Do you know how bad it would be for me to get pocketed by someone with a posting restriction?
That being said, I promise to go back through your posts cat so I can look at who you are looking. It'll be later though since I intend to go into the Nexus shortly.
So, my opinion on the cat stuff is this:
1) He started posting before half the thread got here.
2) Based on previous incarnations, the posting restriction is something along the lines of "talk only in actions that a cat could perform". No wiggle room. In one of the previous ones, the cat can't quote either.
So this tells me that Cythare *could* have just taken a guess, as scum, that there wouldn't be a Spot in this game and tried a gambit. However, this is so risky, because he doesn't have any way to know there isn't. If a second Spot had shown up, the "real" one wouldn't be able to post normally, due to his/her role. Best case for scum would be that we mislynch the real Spot D1, but you have to know you're dead D2 if that happens.
So, my opinion there, is that this is a real incarnation of Spot.
Now alignment-wise, I'm leaning town. He's providing analysis, in his own way. I think healthy paranoia is a good idea here too, because it's going to be hard to spot scum behavior from a cat. But that's probably the impression I'd have regardless, due to the restriction's nature.
I'm also pretty sure that Spot has never been scum. Not that I'd rely solely on that, but it would make sense that Data's cat wouldn't be able to help mastermind a plot.
Anyway I don't have a lot of time (been a busy couple of days, been following along but just can't post much) but yeah mindreaver is obviously town. This is his 4th game ever and he is just towning it up super hard with the way he thinks about things. The fact Kosa is unable to see this (and hey points for TS for shredding him on me, I didn't even notice that) is pretty worrying.

@Mindreaver: dude. You literally voted me over your read on JD. Seriously, wtf.
Well you could be forgiven for thinking so. But really, I didn't say that. I said you're both scum.
The point i was trying to make about your JD interactions is this. You decided I was scum (post 51, the one where I let the cat out of the bag, evidently). Great. You then glam onto JD with posts in the vein of: "Hey everyone, look at JD, HE gets it, love him". Now what kind of appeal is that? Is it "Look at this evidence I have" or is it more "Guys, I'll like you too if you vote the way I want". Which is a scummy way to push for a lynch. I'm not begging people to join me. They'll see what I see, or not. We've got lots of time.
Tick tock.
Tick tock.
I also already mentioned the "stream of consciousness" post. But I still say that was scum PoV if I ever saw one. Players are noticing things, jotting down alignments, recording votes, sorting and filtering all kinds of data. But the point of TOWN play is to sort the good from the bad. While doing that, we can't have thoughts that conflict, without thinking those through. "Fable = Town" two lines before "Mind was coaching Fable, therefore he's scum" would cause a town player to re-evaluate those reads. SCUM on the other hand, know the answers already, so they don't need to keep track of the big picture. Your post read to me exactly like somebody dumping thoughts, but without stopping to consider their consequences.
These are the 4 possible scenarios:
1) If Fable is town, how can I coach him as scum? What's my motivation for doing that? Helping him not get mislynched?
2) Or we're both scum together, that's another theory. But in that case, why not just join the 4 man Fable wagon, why start your own on the other guy?
3) Or we're both town together. In that case, you shouldn't be voting either of us.
4) I'm town and Fable is scum. I'm town, and was clearing coaching a scum player. A mistake? maybe. In any case a vote on me is wrong here too.
So 2,3,and 4 would have you not voting me, if you were even trying to solve the game.
Which leaves scenario 1, which seems unlikely to me. BUT, based on your stream of consciousness post, it's pretty much exactly what you think is happening since you're pursuing me with vigor, and have a stated townread of Fable.
* Cythare looks at Mindreaver again, then swats away the gray ball and replaces it with a blue one.
@KoD: I've already said I'd be voting Necarg Teach
Cool. Could you answer the question though? Saying you'll be voting him doesn't explain to me why you'll be voting him for what led you to think him worthy as such. If you've covered it before, then feel free to give me a short summary.

Welcome to hell Rhand. Glad to have you aboard. When you read it, I'd like to hear your impression on Fable's "KoD list" post that generated some flak for him. Also the interactions to that post as well.
* Cythare tries jumping into KingofDominaria's pocket, fails, then looks at him quizzically. *
* Cythare knocks a book on Mafia theory off a bookcase and leafs through the pages, then meows at KingofDominaria and walks away. She then sees Rhand and rolls over to expose her belly. *
This cat is trying to play all of us I'm telling you. What would be a scum tell for a cat someone tell me please.
So, lack of a scum tell = scum?
There is a marked difference between how you are going about this and the way KoD is. To borrow a phrase, I award thee scum points
* Cythare brushes up against Mindreaver, looks up and meows at him, then runs over and lightly scratches at Fable07 while staring back at Mindreaver. *

I think Cythare is doing an excellent job of being transparent - for a cat.
@TappingStones:
Kosa is fence-sitty when he talks about the FoS, but it sort of read to me like he was just unsure of whether it was still a scum tell or not. At least at the time. I'll have to go back and look to get a second impression of his posts, I guess.
Just a note for those not from here, this is also my first game here since 2014... Kind of like my mafia on NGA.
Either way, Kosakosa, Killjoy, and *shudders* Rhand are the only ones I have experience with... Maybe Cythare as well, but it's been long enough that I really can't remember much about any.
...Well other than some bad game expiriences with Rhand. I barely just skimmed through Hayate again... Damn that last Day loss.
I realize this post isn't very useful, but minds a bit stressed, prepping for a busy weekend with my work.
Don't expect my activity to be very high until the weekend is done.
Firstly - Fable, back off of the cat! I'm very much a cat person (have 3) and I won't stand for any kitty abuse.
Secondly - I've been skimming along but works been so hectic these last few days I'm falling asleep by 20h30/21h00 every night. Tonight's the first night I feel even slightly human. I've started a reread and will post some thoughts shortly.
@TS, that blurb was commentary on basically how you present yourself and not necessarily your game play. I made the Johnny-Spike correlation because I don't believe we should all be of one mind but the difference in our mentalities will likely result in me being a bit stand offish with you because of it. Rather than wait until we actually do clash, I figured I'd be forth coming in my perspective. If that makes sense to you.
@MR, you weren't a stand out player when I did my reads post in terms of prominence. While you were one of the more active thread participants I didn't feel you were a driving force in any campaign yet. You definitely changed that with your kosa assessment. I will, however, disagree with your conclusion (but not your premise). My experience with stream of consciousness posters is that they literally do just dump their thoughts onto the thread like you're saying of kosa, but they use that almost as a journal of thoughts. They can go back, review all their posts in sequence to get a refresher on where their head was at certain points in the game, and then start connecting dots and digging further into areas they want to revisit fully. I don't particularly find this method of play scummy.
@Rhand, um...that was a KoD joke. Get it? But seriously null probably isn't really a lean (it'd be more of a straight up type of position) but when I talk reads I tend to use that terminology regardless of if I'm talking scum, town, or null.
In not specifically addressed matters, my current focus is what DoT will be bringing to the table.
This right here strikes me as very scummy Rhand. That sounds exactly like something that scum would say to divert attention away from them be replaced into the game, and trying to gain some instant town points.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.

Chris clearing Shockwave for the No Lynch post: I want to go see how he's responded to GJ for doing the same thing in the beginning of games. I don't recall him town clearing based on that before. @Sir Chris: You never responded to KoD’s comment in #15 that a townies job is to be transparent, which was a direct contradiction to your thoughts on the matter in #12. Tapping has a point that scum will also try to look transparent, but surely they have a harder time of it since they have to fabricate their reads? Thoughts? (Nvm, you address it in #70)
Necarg’s posting restriction seems a bit crass considering the source material. Unless he's Kirk. And even then it's a bit heavy handed. @Necarg: Are you Kirk?
Didn't Tordeck fake a posting restriction not so long ago? He was town iirc but it's an anti-town play since it distracts from actual content. At least it's not as bad as only posting in song titles…
(This is why I hate having to catch up on games, Mindreaver brings this exact point up in #106. LEAVE ME SOMETHING TO QUESTION DAMMIT! )
Like jd’s point in #41 about KoD’s fishing comment being very self-aware. TS in #42 also raises this, and as one of the players who’s gone after TS for what I thought was fishing (and TS was town), I can attest to it creating good interactions that help to reveal mindsets and alignments.
@Tapping: You said my opening post felt forced? The joys of timezone differences, I made a quick RVS post on the first thing that stuck out at me before I left for work. That's it. As for the illogical reasoning, I never said that only GJ can do it, I just pointed out that it's an opening that a certain player is well known for.
@D_V(#90): Why is the Fable wagon a bad one?
#103: The Crystal in my opening post was just my phone auto correcting Silvercrys into Silver Crystal
So I got as far as 106 with notes etc. and then realised that I'm wasting time with making notes when 5 posts later someone else asks exactly the same thing, or someone explains a previous post in more detail and completely in aliases a question I had for them. Current state of the game:
Never voting for:
Cythare
Have a big pile of null/lean-town reads, with Tapping being closest to the top. Those closest to the bottom of that pile/fallen into the scum category:
Kosa (Tapping's post at the top of page 5 sums it up really well)
jdisawesomesauce (replace out under pressure? Mind brought up some good points against him...)
Col Mongoose
Vote: Col Mongoose
2 posts with minimal content (pot/kettle, I know) and then a sudden scumread on Rhand for the "I wanted to be scum" comment. Mongoose voting for the sake of voting and just needed a reason that would look legit.
@Archon looking legit does not have anything to do with fishing for information or trying to open other avenues of discussion. I find your input in nercarg quite intriguing. Also if just bandwagon on someone else wouldn't I get scrutiny anyway?
Chris clearing Shockwave for the No Lynch post: I want to go see how he's responded to GJ for doing the same thing in the beginning of games. I don't recall him town clearing based on that before.
I think one of us misread some names here. It wasn't me.

One person, I mean cat I can't be sure of their motives.
And the others all had competing reasons for voting that person. Typically I find that any lynch of a person where there are competing ideas for why that person is scum and together don't equal scum its a bad lynch.
That being said I'm starting to revise my opinion of Fable going after Cynth is starting to rub me the wrong way. Its like hitting a target that can't exactly defend themselves and it seems strange to me. Cynth has seen nothing but town to me, and the more the game drags on the more Cynth is a the top of my Town chart.
jdisawesomesauce (replace out under pressure? Mind brought up some good points against him...)
While I'd hate to think that was the reason he left, I'm a little confused here DoTA. I haven't actually made any good points about JD. So what are you referencing?
Oh by the way I wanted to ask this before but I got preoccupied with the cat.
Do we have a plan to deal with the borg cult? Like are cult tells different from mafia tells?
There is no indication that there is any borg in this game. In fact, the flavor on page one suggested that the Borg may have been wiped out. There is absolutely no mention of a cult. So care to explain why you would be blurting that out?
. And just to show you that they're a lot of fun, they're also the geniuses who created the Borg, entirely by accident. Yes, that's right, you puny humans, the Borg were a cosmic accident. They're gone now... or are they? Maybe a few survived, you might never know...
No I'd be inclined to believe you read that wrong TS I find this interesting. Not certain where to take it from there.
There's nowhere to take it. Our mods pointed out in the sign up thread that Spot the Cat was immune to Borg conversion twice - but there was only a cult one of those times.
There's the possibility that Fable is just vanilla with role text to introduce WIFOM. There's also the possibility that there is, in fact, a cult, but we aren't going to catch them on Day 1 (probably) unless they out themselves.
@tappingstone I could see Kosa, and Rhand being possible Scumbuddies, not sure if fable is third scum, or if there is even 3 mafia and not 4, however this is my first time in a game of this magnitude.

Oh, I'm not saying there are three or four members of the Mafia. I'm just letting you guys know where my current suspicions lie.
What would lead you to believe that Kosa and Rhand are scumbuddies? If I had to venture a guess I would say there should be at least four based on a nineteen player game but maybe we have some strange neutrals (I hate neutrals)

Well I'd be amazed if there wasn't at least one non friendly "Neutral".
I am wondering if we need a plan though, but I can't point to anything that I can think of.

Shouldn't the plan be behavioral and interaction analysis?
We can't, like, make a plan for night actions without outing our power roles. And it's only page 5. I think one player hasn't even posted yet and about half the game has just popped in and said "Hi" or promised to catch up later.
I guess I just don't know how else you're going to plan to "catch" anyone. If you've got a plan that doesn't involve outing roles, go for it.
A bright flash of light emerges in the midst of the station's inhabitants squabbling. Everyone's momentarily puzzled by their surroundings being replaced by familiar locations of long past, and the familiar faces of old speaking in ethereal voices.

The visions quickly pass as the Prophets finish their investigation of the station. Existing in a non-linear fashion, they already know the outcome of the battle-by-proxy between cosmic forces (how else could they take responsibility for their actions?), but they will allow the corporeal beings to play out their conflict.
Also, it turns out that one of the boxes from earlier wasn't, in fact, empty, but contained bearers of a strain of the jumping cold robbies, the savage disease that once claimed the life of the original NCC 1701's Lt. Mary Sue, sole recipient of the Tralfamadorian Order of Good Guyhood. Thankfully, the disease only claimed the life of several questionably branded ponies on the station before the Prophets eliminated both the strain, the carriers, and the infected to prevent transmission to the rest of the station.
(Oh yeah, also I'm doing vote counts in addition to [horrendously obscure and arcane] flavour posting. If I missed anything, just let me know.)

I really do think that slot is likely scum. See my opening post.

You can't just say stuff like this without backing it up. Why am I scum with Kosa?

I don't know what this part is supposed to mean.
Typically I don't worry about things but cults is something I have virtually zero experience on. Not certain if there is a more correct play and I am inclined to believe that there is one. That being said I don't think we can come up with a plan that would be meaningless so its a moot point. IE this is a frivolous conversation that was thought provoking but I see no merit in it.
I'm pretty sure I had my vote on Kosa and before that I had my vote on Fable so I don't get how the vote count could be missing my vote. Either you guys missed both bolded votes or someone's blocking my votes?
You are still in yellow. If you get to orange I'll post more on you. Until then I want to see what you're about this game. I have two hotter reads at the moment.
@Rhand: Got a few minutes before work, so I'll answer your question. I remember a few mafia games where I felt pretty run down by you. Felt like every game I was in with you we were butting heads, me struggling to prove myself town to you.
It's not that it was bad play it was just frustrating for me personally as a player. (Well maybe a couple of bad moments... I remember another, burnt non-existent muffins in Drury Lane! ...It makes sense in context.)
I'm not trying to call you someone who needs to be thrown off the boards, as it wasn't harassment or anything like that, but man, somehow I still remember that bad feeling.
But it comes with the game. You're not the only one I've had moments like this with. Part of the reason I was out of mafia for so long was because I took it with such a strong emotional charge. Especially the nagative.
Either way, pasts the past and hoping to come back and enjoy the game. Had some good moments with it too and hope to find more of those again.
So, my opinion on the cat stuff is this:
1) He started posting before half the thread got here.
2) Based on previous incarnations, the posting restriction is something along the lines of "talk only in actions that a cat could perform". No wiggle room. In one of the previous ones, the cat can't quote either.

Anyways about KoD/Fable games. Only 1 completed at this time: http://forum.nogoblinsallowed.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=14644&hilit=+KoD+Fable
They were both mafia in this game, and this was not exactly a strong town showing either... Myself included.

I think one of us misread some names here. It wasn't me.
2014 - Best Mafia Performance (Individual)(Wu Tang)
2014 - Best Mafia Newcomer
2015 - Best Town Performance (Individual) (Predator)
2015 - Best Town Performance (Group) - Predator Mafia
2015 - Best Mafia Performance (Group) - 2015 Invitational
2015 - Best Town Player
2015 - Best Mafia Player
2015 - Best Overall Player
Well A it wasn't really a wagon.
While I'd hate to think that was the reason he left, I'm a little confused here DoTA. I haven't actually made any good points about JD. So what are you referencing?
Kosakosa
Fable
Rhand
Gonna focus on this group for a bit. Trepidation abounds here.
Do we have a plan to deal with the borg cult? Like are cult tells different from mafia tells?
Only if you can agree to start posting useful content. Voting the cat? Give me a break...
There is no indication that there is any borg in this game. In fact, the flavor on page one suggested that the Borg may have been wiped out. There is absolutely no mention of a cult. So care to explain why you would be blurting that out?
Because my role seems super useless if there isn't one.
No I'd be inclined to believe you read that wrong TS I find this interesting. Not certain where to take it from there.
There's the possibility that Fable is just vanilla with role text to introduce WIFOM. There's also the possibility that there is, in fact, a cult, but we aren't going to catch them on Day 1 (probably) unless they out themselves.
I am wondering if we need a plan though, but I can't point to anything that I can think of.
I don't know what this part is supposed to mean.

What do you mean with that *shudders* and bad experiences?
I really do think that slot is likely scum. See my opening post.
And I like playing scum.
Did you notice how I caught Kosa before you did?
What's the difference between yellow and orange?
You can't just say stuff like this without backing it up. Why am I scum with Kosa?
Typically I don't worry about things but cults is something I have virtually zero experience on. Not certain if there is a more correct play and I am inclined to believe that there is one. That being said I don't think we can come up with a plan that would be meaningless so its a moot point. IE this is a frivolous conversation that was thought provoking but I see no merit in it.
Checking that vote is correct after post 117
I'm pretty sure I had my vote on Kosa and before that I had my vote on Fable so I don't get how the vote count could be missing my vote. Either you guys missed both bolded votes or someone's blocking my votes?
Try not to fall into orange.
You are still in yellow. If you get to orange I'll post more on you. Until then I want to see what you're about this game. I have two hotter reads at the moment.
And your point? I've seen you naked vote people without ever mentioning them before.
