Does anyone have a special D&D or Magic room they've built up? I, for one, don't have the time or money for such a thing but would really love to have something like this.

The guy said he did almost all the work himself, so I'd bet you'd be surprised how affordable the room itself was. If he made an effort to find lumber, paint/varnish/stain, etc. on sale, I'd guess there's $5k tops in it (the collection is an entirely different matter, but if its acquisition was spread over two or three decades, the yearly input might not have actually been out of reach for many). Now the time it takes to build something like that oneself is another matter and at least in the photos it appears extremely well done, so he must have taken quite a bit.
I do know one guy who is going to purchase an old downtown row building in a town near where I live and refurbish it into a gaming lounge with an emphasis on magic. He's planning on finishing the outside with a Benalish theme, the ground floor Llanowar, the basement Thran, the top floor Tolaria, and making the roof a patio styled with elements of Kjeld. Oh, and the bathroom is Urborg.
Such things don't surprise me. As games like D&D and M:tG age the playerbase ages with them. People who started playing when they were kids find themselves with much larger disposable incomes in adulthood and you get projects such as these. Look at all the people who have built rooms themed after old muscle cars, baseball, pinball, etc. from the baby boomer generation. I'll bet in ten to twenty years we'll start to see similar things with World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy.

What are the dimensions on those doors? They look like anyone with shoulders couldn't fit without turning sideways. At least that's historically authentic.

The table seems small for roleplaying. Maybe if you don't use a grid its alright but you could barely fit a small Chessex mat on that table. Plus people have dice, character sheets, soda, etc and you need elbow room besides. A small party would be fine I guess.
This guy looks old school as heck, meaning that he likely does theater of the mind. That system is coming back in a big way with the release of D&D Next, which at the current moment is being set up for a theater of the mind like back in original D&D.
In addition to the above it looks like he has a couple of duplicate sets there as well. I can't tell for certain but I am fairly sure I saw 2 sets of the base Planescape campaign set there, possibly the same with some of his Ravenloft stuff.

They aren't *all* D&D books, and there's probably a lot of 3rd-party content in there as well.
If he has every versions of every supplement, including materials from things like Dungeon and Dragon magazines, it might be all D&D. Many people aren't aware that D&D has more than a handful of officially supported settings. They can name Dark Sun, Greyhawk, Eberron, Forgotten Realms, and maybe Ravenloft at best and have no clue about Spelljammer, Planescape, Dragonlance, Rokugan, Blackmoor, Gamma World, etc. In 3.x alone Forgotten Realms put out about 20 hardcovers campaign books! 40 years worth of stuff could fill a room. I imagine he could fill another room with just official miniatures.

He may have duplicates due to errata. TSR/Wizards has a habit of putting out rubbish tabletop games and then they have to fix what's broken and re-release things with updated rules.
If you go to the linked thread, there are additional pictures which more closely show the contents. Certainly an impressive collection, but it is supplemented with other games and systems.
It's a combination of his friends' items and books as well as his. There are just lots of copies, I'm sure everyone started crying about it all taking up too much space prior to this being conceptualized.
I saw this on another forum ( http://www.acaeum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?cache=1&t=8714 ) and thought it was relevant and insane. I had to repost this guy's D&D room.
