The town had a bajillion investigative and killing roles but I had 80% of the setup figured out by our first voting phase and I nailed the SK and Cult to the walls in the late game.
I actually played two roles...one of them involved me wearing a mask, a hooded cloak, and gloves to cover up my identity - that being a mute android. I quickly changed costumes to that one on the first phase and voted someone, then ran away and changed back, and eventually, at some point in mid-game, my "main" character got "arrested" (lynched). People had pretty much figured out that I was the cloaked dude but somehow did not end up voting for me immediately upon my return as said character...
The Doc and SK actually ended up giving me the perfect falseclaim, because I could only really nod or shake my head (I eventually started writing suspicions out on a plate and showing them to people, then pointing intensely at the names and at the players they were associated with, which somehow ended up carrying a LOT of weight). They asked me if I had been "jacked into the system the whole time" and if I had seen any suspicious activity. I, of course, lied my ass off and nodded, pointing to the Cult Leader and SK. I eventually convinced everyone that a large number of the remaining townies were anti-town parties based on suspicion I had dredged up and theories I had crafted as my non-mute character, and somehow they stuck and people voted for who I told them to vote for.

I see that.
Just living life; ups & downs, experiences gained, growing as a person. Or whatever; either way, no point in boring everyone with details. How is the Mafia going?
Yeah, I feel you, there - been learning a lot about life, myself, lately. New things are new and whatnot. Started a new job this week, as a matter of fact.
As far as Mafia goes, we've been experiencing a bit of chugging with our well-oiled machine, but I think we just moved past the hiccups in the past week or so and are starting fresh. Killjoy's the Secretary now; the progression went something like Manders -> Iso -> Void -> Megiddo -> Killjoy. As you can see, I'm on the Council, now, as well as a Mod - though I think you were still around for that latter change. We've had some issues with the forum software, but we're getting Curse to tailor it to our needs, and they're responding wonderfully to it.
Anyway, we're always looking to bring our old players back. Cantrip has a game in sign-ups right now, if you'd like to make a comeback.

I miss the days when there was no need for a Mafia Secretary.

I perused the thread, but even though I am certainly tempted to dive right back in, I think it might be a better idea for me to make sure I want to stick around before I commit to anything. If the game has trouble firing, I could see that tipping the scales.
I got a new job, btw! I start next week. Unfortunately, I want something that pays more, so I'm gonna keep looking...but in the meantime, it's better than my current job!
I always hate asking this question for fear of me just sitting here blinking at you for an inordinate amount of time after you answer... but here it goes...

Haha. I used to do security/cooking/maintenance/cleaning at a strip club. Now I cook at a breakfast restaurant that's a 5-minute walk from my house, as opposed to a 40-minute drive one way + tolls. Things were not so codified into rules & procedures; in certain ways game mods had more freedom. Or, at least that is how I remember it; maybe just nostalgia.
Not saying that our community has not improved in many ways (overlooking the current slump), but I am not convinced that all of the changes were for the better.
Anyway, we're always looking to bring our old players back. Cantrip has a game in sign-ups right now, if you'd like to make a comeback.

Cool, cool - what do you think would be a determining factor as to whether or not you stuck around?
Largely the activity level. Literally every non-Magic area of the site looks dead. Coming here to play Mafia will quickly become a chore if I am forced to wait hours between responses (in game or out); I will simply get bored and wander off.
Honestly, it also depends on whether or not I think the player base has shifted into something that I am not compatible with.
On the other hand, Cantripmancer's game does seem to be having some trouble getting off of the ground, and I do not want to leave him hanging. How long has it been taking for sign-ups to fill lately?
In any case, I consider myself much better at designing & running games than actually playing. I have had a few ideas for games floating around while I have been away, and the hosting queues are way, way down from what I am used to, so I am putting a few things together to submit for review soon. If anyone would be willing to answer a few questions, provide feedback on a few things, and review the set-ups once I am done, it would be appreciated.
Fair enough. There were some issues with the hosting list, so we had to tighten things up a bit.
And again, fair enough RE: wait time. There are a few areas of the site that you can frequent to stay pretty busy with. As for length of sign-ups, it generally depends on the host/game type. Megiddo's game filled up in like, 2 days.

I wanted to post this earlier but got the dreaded non-unicode bug.
What do we all think? I'm in favor of this, but it's the clan's opinion that I want to share with the council
Us [s]gods[/s] mods are considering a revamp of the current clans system, effectively dissolving the council and democratizing the creation of clan contests. As a part of this, we would also like to create a Clan Lobby - a neutral thread where any member can post! This will give people a place to form inter-clan friendships, scout out existing clans for possible membership, and to allow new members to possibly form their own clans! The New Clans should be fun and friendly, and open to everybody - even bitter sods like me!
In accordance with this, we'd like to present a draft of the game creation process. It's pretty long, but don't worry. KK only knows small words!

MTGS Clans Games Workshop
The 2015 Clan of the Year Race Starts Here
Introducing the new and improved Clan Contests
The Clan's Mods have been discussing what would be best for the future of Clan Contests. The past method of running contests has a few problems, as we see it. First of all, the requirement to work through your clan representative when you have an idea can be potentially stifling to creativity. Next, the limited amount of contests that can run, and the poor organization by the majority of people required to "OK" the contest (including yours-truly and the other Moderators), de-incentivize clan members and other users from even considering running a game. These in problems, in turn, have lowered participation in contests, which further discourages users from working on new contests.
Thus the new system:

Anyone can run a game, whenever they want. The only requirement is that you get clan members from at least 3-4 clans to sign up.

Scoring has been simplified and final scores for the contest will be reported by a contest's organizer when the game is finished as a post in <this thread>(link to be edited in) for easy compiling of scores.

Clans get a set amount of additional points if a member of their clan ran a contest during the year.

At the end of the year, clan's vote on the best Clan Contest Host & Participant for additional points.

black
Proposing a Game
black
Anyone can propose a game at any time. Simply post the desired rules and be prepared to field questions. Once your game has been refined and agreed upon by potential players from multiple clans, you can begin your contest whenever you choose.
As a general rule, each game suggestion must initially contain the following:

At least two people willing to run the contest. Typically, this means yourself and a backup.

Everything that is required for the game to be ran.

A detailed outline of the rules.

How you will determine the winner of the contest.

black
Running a Game
black
When your contest has everything required under Proposing a Game, you may run the contest if you have members from at least 3 different clans signed up to participate.
This Thread is only for the purpose of proposing games and communicating about proposed games.
Any organization that needs to go on once the contest has started should not take place in this thread. The recommended method of organizing an active contest is to start a PM thread and invite all participants into the conversation.
The Clans Moderators should be kept up to date on active contests. The preferred method for doing this is to include the Moderators in whatever communications occur between all the players during the contest.
black
Scoring
black
Clan Contests

The winner of the contest gets the maximum 3 points for their Clan.

Every Clan that has a member who participated in the entirety of the contest earns 2 points.

Each Clan that participated, but did not have a member who qualified for the 2 point award earns only 1 point.
Example reasons for participants to fall short of earning 2 points:

The participant failed to complete a required phase of the contest, such as judging other groups' entries at the end of the contest.

The participant failed to complete a required phase of the contest in a timely manner. Be lenient, but if the tardiness is causing the contest's timeline to move back by 24 hours or more, this deduction is probably in order.
This is up to the contest's organizer, but Moderators and un-involved Clan Representatives have the final say on disputes in this area.
This system allows for games that do not require the Clan to compete as a team, so you can have multiple individuals compete from within the same clan without multiplying the scores. The only benefit to bringing lots of Clan-mates to a contest like this is the increased odds of one of you taking first place.
Clan Mafia
We will continue to run one clan mafia each year. If there is demand, we could run more than one.

At the end of the game, the players will vote on the winning and losing team MVPs.

Scores are awarded in the following manner:

Losing team: 2 points

Winning team: 3 points

MVP: +1 point

Any Clan that gets modkilled, replaces their Clan out entirely, or has poor enough participation to be considered getting modkilled (Prodded too many times; Replacing out w/out a Clan replacement for multiple days; etc.) receives only 1 point, regardless of their team's win or loss.

Any Clan that does any of the previous things on Day 1 of the game receives 0 points.
Contest Organization Reward

Every Clan gets 3 points as long as one of their members has run at least one complete and successful contest during the year.
Best Contest Clan

Next January, each Clan will vote for the best Clans based on contest hosting and contest participation.

The Clan that wins the vote gets 5 points, the runner-up gets 4 points, and 3 points for third.

Once the poll is complete, all of the scores for the year will be totaled up and the Clan of the Year will be declared.
I'm down for the new Clan system. I always thought it was a relatively dysfunctional/needlessly obtuse system but didn't really have any ideas as to how we could improve it, nor did I think my voice would be heard as a non-representative. Plus it's not like I could pop my head in the rep thread and talk it over with the other clans.

As far as the clan mafia bit of the program goes, I'm all for new ways of luring unsuspecting clannies into our merciless clutches. I'd have no complaints about seeing those fire more frequently than once a year.
I concur, but the issue is finding someone willing to run something not too over-the-top to draw in the other clan members, who sometimes end up getting a bad taste in their mouth due to how things shake out. That's one of the biggest reasons we don't run many Mod Mafias, as well.

So. Seppel hosted an IRL Mafia party on Saturday.

But, hey, it worked, and I had fun.
