Well, for a while there we thought that moonlace would only last until end of turn. That would have been tragic because the only thing that card has going for it is that it is part of a cycle. It's not like they actually have to worry about people forgetting that this effect lasts.
Someone would have to actually play the card for that problem to arise. ZING!
Merfolk Assassin: The fact that it kills the grayscale is so funny. Not to mention that they included the warbarge as a potential combo. What a joke that is!
Just looking to see if there are any other bad cards in the blue purples. It's a pretty solid collection. Not all are worth constructed, but not too many suck, really.
Right, but what's the second worst white reprint? I kind of thought that one was an obvious choice for worst white reprint (even though I ended up going with a different one.)
And which of the magi do you think will see the most play? My money's on the magus of the scroll, with magus of the disk and magus of the mirror tied for second. But they're all pretty good, and the blue one may come out of nowhere and whallop us all.
Magus of the Jar is totally insane with the Coldsnap remove-two-cards-to-own-your-face cycle. It's like, draw a new hand, play your land, use all your mana...then go nuts with non-mana effects.
Soul spike and snapback FTW.
* Wuffles_II thinks this actually has potential
At very least, it's infinitely better than the black or green magi.
I could see a storm deck using magus of the jar, or maybe a milling deck if you wanted to pay 5 mana for 7 cards, not a very good idea IMO.
The storm deck would probably be the best route, although you would need a bit of accel. U/R i would guess, with a T3 magus, and a T4 combo.
T1- Island
T2- Mountain + signet, or something that produces a U mana
T3- Mountain- tap mountain for signet- Add U/R Tap other mountain for R, play rite of flame use URRR and other island to play magus
T4- super happy grapeshot combo. Sac Magus when you feel like you need more cards.
I think that there is a surprisingly little amount of interest in the magus of the jar. But that's not to say that the other magi aren't really measuring up though. They all have promise, even the green one. The black one is very powerful IMO; you suicide into an autowin.
But there's a lot of attention being placed on combo decks like the dragonstorm. We have a ton to digest right now and the dragonstorm deck is taking up a good deal of the spotlight. And for good reason, too.
Thus far, I haven't seen Dragonstorm do very well at all, as every control deck worth its salt packs trickbind either main or SB.
a 2-mana instant answer to the point of the deck strikes me as a problem.
I have been playtesting dragon quite fervently, and I either run into Trickbind, or NuZu, which kills too damn quickly in the first place.
I think Dragonstorm needs to run wildfire SB for the Zoo matchup.
rawr.
And Dawiz, you might want to work on your content, man. Most of the posts you make seem to be "Hey whats up guys" [since the last ten posts or so since i asked]. I think you'd be getting close to spam warnings for that.
There may be another thread elsewhere, but you can find that yourself
It had never occured to me that trickbind was a good answer simply because it doesn't answer the whole package. But it obviously stops the beiggest part and makes it very managable.
I've run into trickbind too. It pissed me off. Finally they allow me to play competitively with my dragons in standard, not to mention DRAGONSTORM (perhaps my favourite card from the Scourge expansion), and they take it away from me the same way they did in Scourge...only this time I can't respond...
Oh well. There is no stopping me from playing this at states...I'm just too damn stubborn!
@ Wuffles: ...What...how...pie...PIE?!...*disapointed*dude...
Heh, yeah. I'm also trialing out Mono-White control right now, and I have to say, there's this 1-costing instant that kills dragonstorm completely - Angel's Grace.
"I uncounterably prevent death by fat dragon roast then next turn i wrath j00"
So that's both blue and white that have definitive answers to your deck.
But, hey, you WILL own Red, Green, Black decks with it, in the first game.
Dragonstorm is weird, good but weird. It would get owned by hand disruption though. hyppie = awesome vs any deck like that, or control, or almost any deck except zoo....(dang you wuffles and your zoo of fun!!!).
Can anyone see any new crazy deck archetypes coming out of TS? I need something new and fresh to stop The Doctor's Rack antics...curse you Doc! Like was said earlier, hand-destruction stops the 'Storm dead in its huge, saurian tracks (as with any other deck...), and I'm somewhat sick of all this Zoo, Izzetron, Gruul Beats going around--it's all too repetitive, and thank the gods that the bastardous Heartbeat Combo is finally dead (in Standard anyway).

Good news, everyone! I lost in the finals of a PTQ on Saturday!
Now to address things...
#1: Welcome to the clan Skits! I'm going to put you somewhere, just gimme a second to think...
#2: Angel's grace is quite an answer to dragonstrom.dec; All their Dragons go into the graveyard instead of remaining safely in their library (as they would with trickbind...)
#3: I'm cleaning up some of the inactive members again. (Wherefore art thou, Stilts?)
@Avator of Light: Choose a field. You're the newest High Mage.
angels grace is cheap. Both in cost and awesomeness.
Therefore, angels grace= amazing against any deck except for milling, lol.
I agree with niv-mizzet about standard being too repetitive. Im glad that TS has so many good options to choose from, and each choice actually stands a chance.

I'm working on this really janky BUw build that uses meriki ri berit, smallpox, mindstab, lotus bloom, the new ancestral, etc. It's really wierd right now, but depending on your play environment I think that white weenie has some real promise. As long as combo is not too strong, the white horde has a real chance.

Actually, the dragons remain poised and in play with angel's grace. It's a worse position to be in. Sure, they can't win that turn, but next turn, you're toast.

What actual player worth his Duals plays White Weenie?
But yeah, Dragonstorm has its answers, but so do most viable decks (especially combos; which I don't like the Combo Archetype, but a lot of my decks seem to be combo decks anyway...?), but the reason I like it (aside from the dragons...duh), is that there is very little MUC, WUC, and MBC can do to stop it (there's nothing I hate more than a control player, which most of my playgroup that are at my level of play are)!

I've always been a big fan of monocolored decks, a la the philosophy of fire, but the philosophy of fire extended to any other color. I'd rather take my chances that a deck that tries to suceed at one thing can do it better than a deck trying to spread itself thin across themes.
Also, NOT spending 80-120$ for duals for a single deck is a good reason for me.

@wuffles- yes, soul spike has much potential, and your deck does too.

Well, I managed to smuggle a box and fat pack into my house without my parents finding out, so I am happily the owner of so much sh*t.
Yeah, my box sucked.
Well, I did end up trading for 3 magus of the disc and 2 lotus bloom, however.
Black/Green fungi beats dominates. So does pulling off an ignite memories for 17, then swinging with your newly-un-suspended 4/4 flyer for the win.
The only bad thing is that I have no good ideas for competitive standard.
Whatever.
