for P.C drafting U/R seems like a very good draft choice but in my opinion W/R/u seems better. with all of whites evaion with the White Main Lion, Calisaderm, Dust Elemental, and others it just seems way to broken not to draft if u can. if you go slivers the U/R one is just rediculice because of its ability to leave play. well thats my thoughts how bout others?

I do want to play some white, but I know that my friends will draft it heavily (one in particular is dead-set on going mono-white) so I don't want to have to play white, especially since white removal is "racist."
That could cause some problems.
Thoughts on white vs. white matchups? Draft strategies?
white vs white is bad. games take fore ever and usualy comes down to droping your bomb rare taht they didnt get and wining with it. personaly when i drafted it last week (didnt get to keep any thing) the best i could do was go for a bomb rare a build on it. I found the Planesshifted Phenix to be a very good card but only if your opponit dosnt have a ton of removal. Dust elimentle is the Shiz so draft that if u can. Chronozoa is insain and i love the card personaly. the thing with blue is alot of its good cards are rare or very 1st pickable. we draft tons over here so thats how i c it. P.C is a blue Drafters best friend. blue has kill, tricks (like it needs any more), Shapeshifters, illutions, Counter, and any thing else under the sun. in draft i feel it is the most powerful color and thats what i would draft. then just get a secound color and run with it around pack 2 or 3 unless pack one has a nuts card that gets to you. then go with that. thats my stratagy going into this on friday
sorry for the double post but the new clan contest is up its looking like a clan portret. i guess thats the 1st contest of 07 we have till mid feb i think it was to enter.

That sucks about the draft. Are you guys drafting online or in a store?
I ran down to the local cardstore today to pick up a couple of Tin Street Hooligans for my 1.5 goblin deck. The guy working suggested I buy a pack of Planar Chaos since it just came out. So I bought my first pack in a long time. Guess what I pulled? Extirpate.

Like I said, three of my buddies and I drafted PPP (using a box my friend bought, so we couldn't keep any of the cards) last night.
First draft was kinda weak. Drafted like I said I would.
First off, I opened Akroma first pack, but there was a Pyrohemia in there too. Took me beauty, though. My friend across from me opened Crovax and Damnation and took Crovax (we can't keep the cards, remember?). Crovax, by the way, is a little ho. He never dies, he pumps my opponent's stuff, and screws my guys over. What a d-bag.
Here's how my cards worked out: Akroma helped win once (with Battering Sliver backup) despite a Voidstone Gargoyle naming her, as I simply flipped her... Aquamorph Entity was kinda bad...against Crovax... Dreamscape Artist was kinda boring. I probably should have splashed W for that 14th pick Numot, the Devastator...I did hate a Whitemane Lion and two Revered Dead, after all...Oh well. Gossamer Phantasm was all right, but it drew a lot of Spellshapers and the like. Primal Plasma was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. I often made it a 3/3 on an empty or nearly empty board only to regret it a few turns later when that Uktabi Drake came swinging in for (unanswerable) lethal.
The Slivers were good, but Battering Sliver once killed me when my opponent Utopia Vowed him and then proceeded to rape me with two trampling Sinew Slivers. Veiling Oddity was terrible for my deck. Jodah's Avenger was either too expensive to play or got removed immediately. Riptide Pilferer was cool, but if it could get through, it usually meant that I had the game in the bag. (Though a second turn Pilferer from me once got my opponent to play Marauders. To which I promptly responded with Fury Charm. GG? Shaper Parasite was amazing, of course. Erratic Mutation was very good, but once I would have won if I could pump Akroma with it in additional to her fiery breath, but alas, she has protection from blue. A few times, I revealed Piracy Charm or Venarian Glimmer and either sucked on an additional damage or had to use a Piracy Charm to finish the job.
Speaking of which, Piracy Charm was great at killing Pyromancer, Blightspeaker, Essence Warden, and especially Mire Boa. Reality Acid was either too slow to be helpful or would get shafted by stupidrescuers. Dismal Failure was unimpressive, but was once amazing when I attacked into a Whitemane Lion, and when my opponent tried to rescue it, I countered the other Whitemane and proceeded to net myself a three-for-one. Venarian Glimmer was not that great, but I misplayed it once...Being stupid and thinking that all discard is sorcery speed, I played it on my turn and found only a land.
I definitely could have used Pongify or Ovinize, of which I didn't see ANY.
I pulled a Molten Firebird 4th pick, which was kind of ridiculous, but I didn't complain. It ended up chumping a lot, so it was good, but not that great. Needlepeak Spider was OK, but it was far too easy for my opponents to kill. It blocked a Giant Dustwasp once when my opponent wasn't paying attention, but I still lost that game.
My R was pretty solid, but it definitely played a second fiddle to my U tricks.
I'll talk about the other R cards in a bit!
So I went 1-5 against my friend with the Crovax. Not pleasant.
I whomped on my friend 4-0 with Damnation, but that was to be expected. Sorry, buddy. At least you get to keep all of the cards...
Went 1-2 against the last guy who was playing RebelChain/Mire Boa Control. Tried to remove Blightspeaker a turn too late...He just got another one and proceeded to rape my Akroma and me.
Next draft was much more interesting. I first picked Jedit, but no one else was playing R, which was really strange. (The guy to my right first picked Harmonize, screwing my color scheme.) As a result, I thought I had drafted an amazing deck, but I guess I was mistaken.
Here's my finalized decklist:
Firefright Mage was terrible. Ridged Kusite was OK, but I didn't have enough Madness cards to make it any good. Stingscourger was fine, but I often wished it was something that could get rid of a creature for good...Or that I was still playing and could whip out a Dismal Failure or two... Keldon Marauders was very, very interesting. It often dealt 5 damage or got removed by Sunlance, which is fine by me either way. I think that if I was playing , I could easily wipe the floor with them. Blood Knight was amazingly good. I played him first turn three times with Simian Spirit Guide. Too bad I only won one of those games. Against my last opponent, I drove his life down to 16 before he started to stabilize...with two Aven Riftwatcher. I ridiculed this card, but it's not that bad it retrospect. The 8-point boost definitely won him the game. The best play of the game was definitely when I played Stingscourger on his facedown creature and he flipped his Shaper Parasite to give my Blood Knight +2/-2. In response...I played Brute Force on my Blood Knight and charged past his Aven Riftwatcher for 7 damage. Of course, my Blood Knight died the following turn, and he made life difficult with flyers and Slivers, but I still had fun. Blightspeaker was fine, but without Rathi Trapper, not great. Very fun with Pyromancer, though.
Naturally, Pyromancer was great, but he also got killed really quickly. Often used in conjunction with Dead to kill Dustwasps and the like. Simian Spirit Guide was pretty decent. I only used him for mana to get out first turn Blood Knight or Marauders, but that's really stupid in retrospect. Æther Membrane slowed down Intet once (I still got smashed) and blocked Serra Sphinx on two separate occasions. It also sucked Sunlance after combat a few times. Oh well. Not a bad card, but too defensive for this deck. Big Game Hunter was put in to kill Intet. That never really worked. He was crappy. Dead was amazing. I only ever played Gone once, but I took no damage that game, so it was kind of unnecessary. I will definitely draft this card highly in the future. Brute Force was also good, but I often got my creatures killed and had nothing to play it on. I used it a few times on Marauders to get in 8 early damage...and still lose. I really need to work on my color combinations... Midnight Charm was fine, as it killed weenies in a pinch. I never used the other two abilities, though.
Vampiric Link took out a Needlepeak Spider, a Giant Dustwasp, and a Serra Sphinx. Pretty nice card, but not the best removal. Of course, I never played in on my own creatures. I suppose I could have slapped it on Blood Knight and gone to town with Brute Force... Melancholy was underwhelming, as it was good at getting rid of stuff, but rescuers often saved the creature. Plus, it tied up my B, which I didn't have a whole lot of to begin with. I had initially tried Shrouded Lore, but Melancholy's upkeep cost and Wistful Thinking quickly put a dent in that plan. Shivan Meteor was good. However, I often waited for big dudes to kill and sucked unnecessary damage before finally blowing the crap out of a flying Primal Plasma or something of that sort.
Suffice to say, I got smashed a little more often that I would have liked. I had a few good games, though. My friend who was playing earlier now played a weird URG deck. First game, he played Radha, Wistful Thinking, and Vitaspore Thallid, but not much else. He quickly succumbed to double Blightspeaker/Pyromancer shenanagins. Second game, I got eaten alive by a 5th turn Intet with haste. Not pretty. He ended up getting Intet on the following two games, also getting Chronozoa twice. I think I lost to him three more times, making the record 1-4. Ouch.
The former guy played GWU, packing card draw, fat, stupidflyers and burn. I lost twice to him and had one perfect game. Funny, huh? 1-2.
I didn't even have time for one game against the last guy, since he had to pack up and run when his dad got there, but he would have won. As stated above, the player turned Slivers/goodstuff player proceeded to stave off death with Aven Riftwatcher, stabilize, and get a concession out of me before following his father out the door. His life total? 9. Those damn Aven. I'll count that as a 0-1.
First Draft Overall: 6-7
Second Draft Overall: 2-7
Ironically, what I thought was the better deck was not nearly as successful. I think this was because I sort of forgot that in draft, card advantage is key. This makes even crap like Wistful Thinking playable and rares like Aeon Chonicler bombs. Blowing threecards for 8 damage is stupid. Therefore, I was playing like an idiot. I should probably keep my hands off of my Goblindeck for a while...
Next time, I'm probably going to draft aggro.
Thanks for reading, and please contribute your ideas for PPP draft!

Niv-Mizzet324, could you show me what your picture looks like so I have an idea of what is expected?
Thanks!
I recently played my mono red burn (vintage) against a friend's deck. I know mono red doesn't sound like much of a vintage deck, but this is a casual vintage, since my friends and I don't own power. I've decided to update my mono red deck or at least build an alternative, because my deck, which until now has been unbeatable, took a major hit to my buddy's deck.
I just tested a version of fish that I could afford and man, did it suck. So I've come to the coclusion that I'm going to build an U/R vintage deck. I don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier!

My friend also has a mono-red casual Vintage burn deck.
I'm not quite sure exactly what's in it, but I assume that it looks something like this:
In my defense, he was proxying at least half of said dual lands.
That reminds me of my friend who built Solar Pox...and proxied most of the lands.
I think he owns one copy of Flagstones and three copies of Godless Shrine. That's it. The Gemstone Mines, Watery Graves, and the rest of 'em are proxies.
When he gets some ***/Damnations, that deck will be ridiculous.
Ironically, I am thinking about U/R for a PPP draft, since they seem to have the best commons. Does anyone have any input in this area?
I stole one of your :cookie:. I hope you don't mind.

Granted, there are only a few flyers in PC that have big enough butts:
Æther Membrane
Akroma, Angel of Fury
Aven Riftwatcher (couple turns? :()
Chronozoa
Dust Elemental
Giant Dustwasp
Malach of the Dawn
Mirri the Cursed (first strike!)
Serra Sphinx
Stormfront Riders
Voidstone Gargoyle
The Dragons
Granted, only the Membrane, Dustwasp, Malach, and Riders are (lasting) guys who aren't rare...
I'm pretty sure I'm going to play U/R, since blue's solid, and I just like red (BRUTE FORCE! PRODIGAL PYROMANCER! PYROHEMIA!)

12 Mountain
Spells
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Flame Rift
4 Fork
4 Fireblast
Of course, that's only a 40-card deck...which is why it's only casual.
Well, I was about to change my name to The Asian Persuasion, but I guess that's kind of taken...
Green dominates. I hate it.
G has good flyers and versatile fixers and even removal.
Personally, I like W's ridiculous rescuers and R's burn and beaters.
Me too! I had one of those. Never seemed to win though.

A friend of mine plays Fastbond and used it to bring out 7 duals by 3rd turn. I PoPed him for 14 ftw!
Him: I play $200 worth of cards in one turn.
You: I kill you with a $1 card.
Him: !@#$%^&*
In my defense, he was proxying at least half of said dual lands.
