I don't know much about Warhammer. One of my buddies originally played Warhammer before switching to MtG. Now, he's switched to World of Warcraft, which he devotes every waking moment to, when he's not working. He even deprives himself of sleep for it.

Although sometimes I skip class to play games (like Diablo II).
So the power went out in my dorm room for about 5 minutes. It was stupid; I think my douchebag suitemate overloaded the power grid on our side of the floor.

Warhammer= Excessive amounts of money + plastic miniatures + lots and lots of unneccisarily hard work
WoW TCG= Warcraft storyline + Dangerous Resemblance to MtG that makes it just another wimpy copy of MtG
My friend that plays WoW loves to try to explain stuff from the game to me in magic terms. Like when him and a friend are going against two other players, he goes out of his way to explain how its like 2 Headed Giant. Or how his mp (if thats what its called) is like mana. Etc. As if I hadn't played D&D before!
I just dislike it because now, when I stop by his place, he barely even gets up from the computer. And when he does take a break, he's back playing it again before you even realize it. I came over to socialize, not to keep him company while he's playing the game.

Amen.
Now my friend only comes over to play videogames by himself. And when I go to his house, he's always playing Runescape by himself.
Rather annoying, hm?
I need new friends...but my social ineptitude prevents it.
Actually, the social stigma against DnD and other such pasttimes prevents new friends (my social ineptitude prevents me having a girlfriend...but that's a different story). I have way too many aquaintences, and very few friends...oh well.
Well, that was a weird tangent...
Edit: Well, I have a problem, kinda sorta. I figure I may as well post it up here for y'all to see...there's this girl whom I (hopefully) plan on "courting". Now, she's currently being...not dated, certainly...more like, well, courted (God, there has to be a word for this...), by another guy, but nothing official is going on, and she only seems mildly interested in him, at the most. Now, how much courting on my part is acceptable? Or should I just wait and see if anything happens between them?
Is my usage of the word "courting" weird? I honestly can't think of a better word...

Ouch. Runescape makes me so angry. Just looking at it makes anger burn within me. Oh, so ANGERING!!!!!!!!!!!!
MMOs are in my opinion: 1. A waste of money 2. An excessively addictive bad habit 3. A way to ruin the point of RPGs by turning them into repetitive slave labor (come on, if I press "3" four times and rest for ten seconds ten thousand more times I'll level up and get a new spell!) 4. Makes me SOOOOO ANNGRRRY!
Board game RPGs are great. Strategy board games are fun. I also really like RTS games, but MMOs are infuriating. In fact, any computer RPG is infuriating.
Don't lump everything together like that!
I happen to think Diablo II is a great game that doesn't lead to a huge time commitment on the players' part...although I play it more often than I should.

Well, yeah. I'm a little slow, methinks. And I only clicked the button. I didn't put anything in it.
I feel your pain. When will people understand the point of DnD?
There's certainly more to it than just getting powerful, but D&D does have some limitations that make it a munchkin friendly game. The setting is pretty generic and the system is is so complicated that you either have to get off on the rules or just try to be really powerful to overcome your chalenges. Also, the game is no friend of immersion storytelling or getting into character. It does not encourage you to be dramatic or unique and pretty much is a cookie cutter combat system. Your character is just barely customisable and storyline is a distant point.
I guess the point of my hate speech here is that D&D is pretty much the munchkin system of choice (hackmaster excluded for the moment). If you want a new setting or immersive storytelling, there are systems much better suited to that purpose.
Don't lump everything together like that!
I happen to think Diablo II is a great game that doesn't lead to a huge time commitment on the players' part...although I play it more often than I should.
I think WoW stands pretty much alone here. I can't think of another MMORPG that even comes close to the life-syphoning power of Warcraft.
Also, Yellow Fever was hilarious, spot on with content and comedic timing, and really well executed.

I agree that it is the munchkin media of choice. However, it decently open-ended for world creation (as long as you don't mind messing with the monsters a bit), and characters, IMO, are only limited by class, and I tend to stretch the boundaries there for roleplaying purposes.
So...it's still quite capable of being a "roleplaying" game, versus a roleplaying game.

When I bash D&D, I'm trying to piss off my friends who play it (because I think it's a waste of time to do all that busy-work before one can even start playing, and the suspension of disbelief and stretching of the imagination to comprehend the invisible and impossible is silly), but now I actually have a more concrete reason to dislike it.
So I see I haven't been sent to the Erratic Portal... what's up with that? I've been gone for ages!
And on a sadder note, I will probably continue with this trend for some time. I'm sorry, guys. Really, I am.
But enough depressing ********, how are we all? What's new with the outside world of Magic? I've not been playing a lot of anything but casual in my absence, so I'm completely out of the loop. So I here Morningtide is out, FILL ME IN YOU SWINE!
Oh, and it's good to be back!
OH MAN! Shadowmoore is where it's at for me. My golden days are back in Odyssey and Onslaught times, so needless to say, I prefer the setting of this set... Lorwyn's happy-go-lucky crap put me off a bit. I CAN'T WAIT!
Well, I'm back from PTQ Minneapolis. I finally turned in a good performance. The night before the tournament I decided to return to a UB version of Dredge. I reasoned that even though Tireless Tribe only costs one, and is a creature to sac for Dread Return, it can't win you the game. Generally, an opening hand of Tribe plus a Dredger does not equal a game win unless your opponent gets screwed. Whereas an opening hand with Tolarian Winds can win the game if you have a Dredger in hand or graveyard. In playtesting with the rainbow build I found myself siding out the Tireless Tribes in alot of matchups, so I decided to make the switch. Here's what I ended up playing:
I couldn't find a 4th Golgari Thug before the tournament, which I would have cut the Darkblast for. I also tried in vain to find a Chalice of the Void, but I played Wonder in its place which worked out well.
Round 1: Mono Red Burn W 2-1
He burned me down the first game, but I was able to win the next two. He apparently had no sideboard for me.
Round 2: Mono Red Burn W 2-1
I won the first game. Second game, I had brought an Ancestor's Chosen into play gaining 51 life. But, he had brought Ensnaring Bridge in against me, and I scooped after he dropped his hand. I had expected Tormod's Crypt and had no answer for his Bridges. Third game I cast Cabal Therapy the turn before he could drop Bridge and found two in his hand, which won me the game.
Round 4: Bill Stark with Spirit Stompy W 2-0
Bill Stark writes for Wizards.com and Starcitygames.com. I know he Top 8ed at PTQ Minneapolis and Indianapolis in last years Extended season and he Top 8ed at GP Columbus when I was there in May. Last year he was my first round opponent and PTQ Minneapolis and he beat me in the Affinity mirror. This time around though, I was able to beat him without even casting Dread Return. Ichorid really did the trick in this matchup. He sacrificed a Tormod's Crypt to remove a single Ichorid in my graveyard at one point. The second game featured me mis-sideboarding in Chain of Vapor. I figured he was relying on Gaddock Teeg and Yixlid Jailer. He had Teeg mainboard, I don't think he had the Jailer. Regardless, when he enchanted his Saffi Eriksdotter with Armadillo Cloak I bounced Saffi and he conceded soon after.
Round 5: Hulk Combo L 1-2
I won the first game by effectively using Cabal Therapy and comboing off before he could. Second game I had used several Therapies to rip apart his hand and had the game in hand, with one draw step remaining for him. He topdecked the one card that would save him, Footsteps of the Goryo, and beat me. He used Chain of Vapor on my Leyline of the Void and went on to beat me the third game.
Round 6: Death Cloud Draw
I had him down to one life point game one. He was forced to blow Pernicious Deed twice on a single Narcomoeba each time. But, he stabilized and beat with Ravenous Baloth and Garruk Wildspeaker. Second game I was able to combo off quickly and beat him down with a flying (thanks to the Wonder I'd sideboarded in) Golgari Grave-Troll . We ran out of time during the third game. I'm not sure who would have won had we had more time.
Round 7: TEPS W 2-1
First game I didn't see a good hand and had to mulligan down to 4. He beat me handily. Second game, I was able to go off before him and win the second game. Third game he had to mulligan down to 5. I tried Breakthrough or Tolarian Winds (I can't remember which) with only a single Golgari Grave-Troll. The sixth card I revealed was another Troll and I was able to combo off and win the game.
Round 8: Death Cloud L 1-2
If I would have won this game, I would have made Top 8. My opponent didn't have good enough tiebreakers and didn't get in. I beat him first game, but he had Offalsnout and Extirpate for me after sideboard.
I finished 5-2-1 and 23rd place out of 223 people. All in all, I had alot of fun. I was very happy I switched to the UB version. Tolarian Winds was good all day long. I was also happy with the third Ichorid, which I added once I changed manabases. Cabal Therapy was also good all day long. Also although it might seem obvious Golgari Thug is very good. He can fuel Ichorid or be yet another redundant dredger. It makes you look pretty lucky when you can Breakthrough, Tolarian Winds or Coliseum successfully with one dredger, but if you have enough in your library, its not luck, but something you've built into your deck. It also helps to have as many dredgers as you can get when you are fighting against Tormod's Crypt, Extirpate, Offalsnout, etc.

The worst part about MMO's is that they instantly turn someone into a munchkin.
Well, at least my friend was turned into a munchkin. But he isn't very intelligent to begin with, so maybe it just reinforced the munchkin in him.
"No, I don't want you to play DnD with us! You don't get the point of it!"
"Yes I do! It's to get as powerul as you can and to get as much stuff as possible!"

Oh well. I'll live.
Well, I don't think so. Diablo II seems to be pretty good, and I love FFVII and FFX with a passion. But MMOs are, for sure.

2 Forest
2 Island
4 Magus of the Candelabra
4 Coiling Oracle
Other Spells (30)
Mana Accelerants (12)
4 Wild Growth
4 Utopia Vow
4 Fertile Ground
Untapping Effects (13)
4 Twiddle
4 Toils of Night and Day
3 Garruk Wildspeaker
2 Rude Awakening
4 Mind's Desire
1 Brain Freeze
Looks pretty good. Better than I could make.
Happy Pi Day everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
