Well, researchy guy, if you actually look at the thread, the posting peaks on Christmas Eve/Day/Boxing Day (we all have it off, 'cept Cyan) + then has averaged a handful of posts every day since. Feel free to get all math nerdy + plot it out or something, but my cursory glance reveals: there has been no real spike in posting, nor any real lull.
Perception =/= reality or whatever :giantrolleyespukingrolleyes:
I have been on a Toshiro Mifune bender lately (he plays the wanna-be samurai in Seven Samurai, just finished watching Samurai Assassin, which is loosely based on the assassination of Ii Naosuke in 1860. Japan's sovereignty was under threat from all the colonial contact from Western civilizations, + I guess he was leading Japan down a bad path, refusing to change with the times. Anyway, Mifune plays his illegitimate son, who is unaware that Ii is his father. He aspired to be a samurai but failed, + has since been scratching a living with his sword. He falls in with some Mito clan extremists who plan to kill Ii + reset the government. The whole movie is setting up Mifune's character for no-win situations; he falls in love with a noble girl, but his mother won't reveal his lineage, meaning the girl's father sees him only as a bastard; this drives him nutty, causing him to be kicked out of his Dojo, he goes ronin, which causes his mother to disown him + die of a broken heart. . . it only gets worse for him, + he ends up simultaneously beheading his real father + being written out of history.
Heartbreaking, but a damn good samurai film. All of Mifune's films are worth watching though. Last one I saw, Incident at Blood Pass, was more straight popcorn sword action, basically a follow-up to Yojimbo, which is probably my favourite samurai movie (although SS is as good, just depressing).
Blah blah, samurai flicks, Japanese feudal period costume; as Orlando says, they fall down + get red on them
Meanwhile, I just thawed the memory of the time I was 5 + traded some shiny rocks for my neighbor's Soundwave Transformer, complete with Ravage + the vulture cassette guy

all I can find are one off the coast California (6.5), + one off of the Solomon Islands (6.3). That one is one the other side of the continent from me + then across some ocean. No tsunami warning
If you have concerns about working with animals (rabbits in the case) then this is not the job for you. The goal of this position is to create albumin stents for testing in rabbits. While it is possible that you would not need to attend the actual surgeries themselves, everything that you would be doing would be supporting such activities.
On the one hand, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable doing that. I know I wouldn't be able to actually directly work with the animals.. On the other hand, I need a job, and this would pay five times what I'm piecing together now. And there is a certain logic that this work is going to be done regardless of if I'm there or not. So yeah, I'm still not sure what to do here. Anyone have any thoughts?

Now that you put it that way BD, I guess you should take it, cause it is going to happen anyways. Just go the extra mile to make it as humane as possible. =)

Like it would matter to us, Adelaide is one of the safest places on earth, unless you are old or don't like heat.
Here is the problem you will face. You have morals that you believe in. You choose your diet, beliefs, ideas and opinions from these moral beliefs. Once you take a job that even partially compromises those beliefs, you lose part of your arguement. Even though you rationalize it with, "They would be so-and-so even if I weren't there." you are still taking part in something you strongly disagree with. If money and survival are the major contributors to you taking this position...then you must bite the bullet and do what needs to be done to survive. Remember this though...you are going to lose your right to your elitist attitude against the same things that are paying your salary. If you are ok with that...then take the job.

In a horrible coincidence, or maybe an expected result, I had an interesting dream last night. In the dream, I had, for some reason that the dream may not have stated, and if it had that I then have since forgotten, set aside my veganism for a day. I found myself eating first a salad covered in cheese. Then some soup that had in it four shrimp. I had a few spoonfuls of the soup, and then I ate of the shrimp. Halfway through chewing the shrimp, I spit it out and set the soup down. And then the dream ended as I was awoken by my cat having knocked over the garbage can in the bathroom. What it all means, or if it means anything, I know not. But I thought it was interesting nonetheless.
I have to say, I was hoping for some responses with a little more subtlety in them. In particular, I find JJ's point to be a little absurd. To imply that the only downside to me attempting to get the job would be that I might be seen as a hypocrite when I try to argue in the defense of animal rights is, in my opinion, such an oversimplification as to be humourous.
Ultimately, I've made my decision this morning and I'm not going to interview for the position. I still haven't defined the line of if doing the work would be right or wrong, as it's a very complex issue that is not easily settled. But I have decided that regardless, I would be uncomfortable with the work, and that would not make me as effective as worker as I should be, and would not be fair to the employer. Did I make the right decision? I don't know that question could ever be answered definitively, but I am feeling confident that I made the right decision for myself.
And with that I return you all to your regularly scheduled morality-neutral banter.

I scrapped the Bant control idea, it was too sporadic and incosistent, and the mulligans were painful. A new little number I've been testing is like a hybrid between Eldrazi green and Boros Bushwacker, except it's mono-red, and 95% of the creatures are goblins. Just been doing some testing on MWS and it's pretty sick.
In my quest for random information, what is everyone's political views, if any?
I'm fairly leftist but quite activist too, so Bottom-left for me.
I don't subscribe to a certain party/ideology. My stances on some things are leftist, and on some are right-wing. Or sometimes they are my own stances. Needless to say as a political-science major i'm being spoon fed politics at an alarming rate.

My god, you are an unbelievable ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺. Don't you see...I took the most basic problem you face and made it your only problem. Every other problem you face after that one is inconsequential. Why over complicate things with vaguery when the simplest answer is almost always the best.
Here's an idea...if you seem to have an issue with something that you clearly already have an answer to, don't come in here for advice, you arrogant ☺☺☺☺! I offer you, what I believed was, sound advice and you take it and wipe your crack with it.
Here's a little advice straight from me to you....go ☺☺☺☺ yourself and let me know if your morally ok with that!:teach:

That's what I was thinking as well; 'tis why I haven't offered a Happy Birthday yet.
I don't know if I'm unable to read in general, if I'm unable to understand what you write in specific, if you are unable to read (either in general or what I write in specific), or if it's something else all together. But there is a great incongruity between what I think I said I what I think you think I said.

I don't see my credibility in debates to be my most basic problem. In the context of this whole conversation, I'd define the most basic problem of mine to be one of choosing a course of action that I will be at peace with. The closest you came to advice in that regard is, "Even though you rationalize it with, 'They would be so-and-so even if I weren't there.' you are still taking part in something you strongly disagree with." Maybe that was your main advice, in which case my earlier analysis of your advice is wrong, but it read to me as more of an aside than anything.

I did not have an answer to my quandary when I posed it to the thread, and I have no idea where you got that idea. I thought about it, read the posts, and then made a decision. What more did you want from me?

I am just tired of how every post BD makes is about himself or a story of himself topping yours. You seem too tied up in yourself man. Your favorite word is "I". We are here for each other, not just you.
I, like Kp, I don't claim to be with a certain party. With my liking Foxnews I am sure everyone here would say I am a republican. Which I do often agree with them it seems. But I think it is ignorant to side on any topic due to what your "party" is doing rather than hearing the details and deciding for your self.
Speaking of such ( @ Ria's link): WTF man?
Kp, if it is your birthday, our old fart should give you a spanking. ...Unless his arthritis is acting up again.
